Abstract

The term ``partition logic'' denotes two constructions at different levels. In automaton and generalized-urn models, selected partitions generate Boolean event algebras whose contextwise union forms a concrete pasted event structure; in Ellerman's framework, whole partitions are classifications governed by refinement and partition operations. For a finite set $U$, Ore's correspondence maps each generator $π$ to its Boolean algebra $\BA(π)$, but it neither identifies the pasted carrier with $\Part(U)$ nor makes pasting a partition operation. It yields $\BA(π\wedgeσ)=\BA(π)\cap\BA(σ)$ and $\BA(π\veeσ)=\langle\BA(π)\cup\BA(σ)\rangle_{\rm BA}$, where $\langle\cdot\rangle_{\rm BA}$ denotes Boolean-algebra generation. Thus meet captures the common event algebra, whereas join gives the ambient Boolean closure. Chinese-lantern, Firefly, and triangular examples distinguish shared events, atomic intertwining, and inherited concrete order. Ellerman's direct-sum decompositions (DSDs) provide a vector-space analogue: component projections of an orthogonal DSD resolve the identity and encode exclusive outcomes, but its components are not equivalence classes of vectors. Gleason and Kochen--Specker applications require globally context-consistent valuations on those projections.

Complementarity in Social Measurement: A Partition-Logic Approach

Karl Svozil

Partition logics -- non-Boolean event structures obtained by pasting Boolean algebras -- provide a natural language for situations in which a system has a definite latent state but can be accessed and resolved only through mutually incompatible coarse-grained modes of observation. We show that this structure arises in a range of social-science settings by constructing six explicit examples from personnel assessment, survey framing, clinical diagnosis, espionage coordination, legal pluralism, and organizational auditing. For each case we identify the latent state space, the observational contexts as partitions, and the shared atoms that intertwine contexts, yielding instances of the $L_{12}$ bowtie, triangle, pentagon, and automaton partition logics. These examples make precise a notion of social complementarity: different modes of inquiry can be incompatible even though the underlying system remains fully value-definite. Complementarity in this sense does not entail contextuality or ontic indeterminacy. We further compare the classical probabilities generated by convex mixtures of dispersion-free states with the quantum-like Born probabilities available when the same exclusivity graph admits a faithful orthogonal representation. The framework thus separates logical structure from probabilistic realization and suggests empirically testable benchmarks for quantum-cognition models.

Construction of Kochen-Specker Sets from Mutually Unbiased Bases

Mirko Navara, Karl Svozil

We give a constructive analysis of Kochen-Specker (KS) contextuality at the level of complete orthogonal bases (contexts). In dimension three, three noncomputational mutually unbiased bases generate a union of 165 rays and 130 contexts. Exact provenance accounting gives a symmetric decomposition: the three 69-ray lineages share $21$ rays and $10$ contexts, while each contributes 48 exclusive rays and $40$ lineage-specific contexts. Each 69-ray, 50-context lineage is a KS configuration, and this framework clarifies the relation among the Yu-Oh, Harding-Salinas Schmeis, and Cabello constructions. In dimensions four and five, we give parametrized orthogonality gadgets whose connector contexts force a central ray to be maximally unbiased relative to the computational basis. For the concrete four-dimensional example, the 20-ray gadget and the Cabello 18-ray set are informationally equivalent subsets of the 24-ray Peres-Mermin eigensystem, although their context hypergraphs have different two-valued-state behavior. The results show why both the rays and the complete incidence structure of their contexts are needed in assessments of KS contextuality.

The Missing Premises of Quantum Measurement - Definite records and the Born rule from identity under transformation

Marc Maibom

La Profilée is the structural architecture of determinate nature: Constitution identifies the whole, Transformation evaluates its existence and identity through change, and Coexistence evaluates relations among realized wholes. This paper applies the full architecture to quantum measurement without changing the quantum equations. Its physical subject remains definite outcomes, their relation to unitary evolution, the Born law, and the identity of the records that carry them. A physically completed coupling resolves an exhaustive exclusive record variable; LP determinability then gives one actual record value without an observer selecting it. Exclusive actuality does not entail projection of the globally retained quantum state. Rank-one calibration and repeatability fix the affirmative branch map. Statistical non-contextuality additionally requires identity of the complete input–event experiment and descent of its law to that identity class. Stable Boolean event frequencies then give the Gleason representation, and preparation faithfulness identifies its operator with the prepared state. Each inference is proved in the text. The argument determines the carrier and instrument before using these results. It proves that a unique instrument constitution does not select a run outcome, and that decoherence alone does not identify the physical record partition. Worked reversible-laboratory and relational cases distinguish an actual event from persistence of its record. Quantum recovery makes the distinction quantitative: a two-qubit copying channel preserves classical labels exactly, loses local full-qubit recoverability with optimal normalized diamond error one half, and preserves the full code jointly. Continuation-family and complementary-channel results connect those measurement records to information preservation, including evaporation. The resulting measurement theorem states its structural and physical requirements explicitly; it does not predict the individual outcome or infer multi-time consistency from a formal state–label pair alone.

The Quantum Logic of Direct-Sum Decompositions

For a finite set UUU, Ore's correspondence maps each generator πππ to its Boolean algebra \BA(π)\BA(π)\BA(π), but it neither identifies the pasted carrier with \Part(U)\Part(U)\Part(U) nor makes pasting a partition operation. It yields \BA(π∧σ)=\BA(π)∩\BA(σ)\BA(π\wedgeσ)=\BA(π)\cap\BA(σ)\BA(π∧σ)=\BA(π)∩\BA(σ) and \BA(π∨σ)=⟨\BA(π)∪\BA(σ)⟩BA\BA(π\veeσ)=\langle\BA(π)\cup\BA(σ)\rangle_{\rm BA}\BA(π∨σ)=⟨\BA(π)∪\BA(σ)⟩BA, where ⟨⋅⟩BA\langle\cdot\rangle_{\rm BA}⟨⋅⟩BA denotes Boolean-algebra generation. Thus meet captures the common event algebra, whereas join gives the ambient Boolean closure.
