Abstract

We derive the $\mathcal{P}(Φ)_2$ measure on the two-dimensional unit torus as the rigorous limit of many-body quantum Gibbs states. In particular, the quantum model corresponding to the $Φ^{2p}_2$ measure is formulated in the grand-canonical ensemble with a general symmetric $p$-body interaction potential which is not required to have a factorized form. Unlike in the $Φ^4_2$ case investigated by Fröhlich--Knowles--Schlein--Sohinger in \cite{FKSS25}, in the treatment of higher-order interactions, Wick renormalization generates a full hierarchy of lower-order interactions which we organize systematically using a graphical formalism. One key ingredient of our analysis is a logarithmic stability estimate for both the nonlocal Hartree functional and the many-body Hamiltonian that is uniform in the interaction range, allowing us to use the positivity of the leading $p$-body interaction to control all lower-order terms generated by the Wick counterterms.

Derivation of renormalized Gibbs measures from equilibrium many-body quantum Bose gases

Mathieu Lewin B, Phan Thành Nam, Nicolas Rougerie

We review our recent result on the rigorous derivation of the renormalized Gibbs measure from the many-body Gibbs state in 1D and 2D. The many-body renormalization is accomplished by simply tuning the chemical potential in the grand-canonical ensemble, which is analogous to the Wick ordering in the classical field theory.

Nonlocal Cubic Density Gibbs Measures from Bosonic Gibbs States with Three-Body Interactions

Hao Liang

We study the high-temperature mean-field limit of grand-canonical bosonic Gibbs states on the torus with renormalized nonlocal three-body interactions. In dimensions two and three, we construct the limiting nonlinear classical Gibbs measure and prove convergence of the relative free energy and of the reduced density matrices of every fixed order; in three dimensions, a smallness condition on the interaction is imposed. The proof combines the density-channel representation of the interaction with a coherent-state variational method based on the upper-symbol representation of the free Gibbs state. The same framework also contains, as a special case, the homogeneous positive-type model studied by Lewin, Nam, and Rougerie (2021).

Dynamical classical-field limit of Bosonic Gibbs states: Renormalized Hartree NLS correlations in 2D and 3D

Phan Thành Nam, Rongchan Zhu, Xiangchan Zhu

In this paper we derive the time-dependent correlation functions of the renormalized Hartree NLS equation on the torus $\mathbb T^d$, $d=2,3$, from the corresponding bosonic many-body Gibbs dynamics. In contrast with the 1D problem studied earlier by Fröhlich, Knowles, Schlein and Sohinger, in higher dimensions the scaled quantum particle number is not uniformly bounded and the relevant classical fields require Wick renormalization. Our proof combines convergence of the quantum generators in weighted Hilbert spaces with uniqueness for positive solutions of the limiting Liouville equation that are dominated by the Gibbs measure.

Derivation of Gibbs measure from Gibbs state with the fractional Bessel interaction in Two Dimensions

Phan Thành Nam, Rongchan Zhu, Xiangchan Zhu

We derive the classical Gibbs measure on $\mathbb{T}^2$ associated with the fractional Bessel interaction potential $\widehat{v}_β(k)=\langle k\rangle^{-β}$ from a renormalized grand-canonical quantum Bose gas with the same interaction. Our result covers the whole range $\frac32<β\leq2$, where $\widehat{v}_β(k)$ is not summable and the quantum model cannot be written in the usual density-square form, as the associated self-energy diverges. We therefore need to renormalize the zero mode by a centered number-fluctuation term and then develop a detailed analysis for the high-frequency remainders. All this allows us to implement a low-frequency localization and obtain the convergence of the quantum relative free energy to the classical fractional-Bessel free energy, as well as the convergence of the reduced density matrices to the limiting Gibbs measure.

Thermal pure quantum states of many-particle systems

Masahiko Hyuga, Sho Sugiura, Kazumitsu Sakai +1 more

We generalize the thermal pure quantum (TPQ) formulation of statistical mechanics, in such a way that it is applicable to systems whose Hilbert space is infinite dimensional. Assuming particle systems, we construct the grand-canonical TPQ (gTPQ) state, which is the counterpart of the grand-canonical Gibbs state of the ensemble formulation. A single realization of the gTPQ state gives all quantities of statistical-mechanical interest, with exponentially small probability of error. This formulation not only sheds new light on quantum statistical mechanics but also is useful for practical computations. As an illustration, we apply it to the Hubbard model, on a one-dimensional (1D) chain and on a two-dimensional (2D) triangular lattice. For the 1D chain, our results agree well with the exact solutions over wide ranges of temperature, chemical potential, and the on-site interaction. For the 2D triangular lattice, for which exact results are unknown, we obtain reliable results over a wide range of temperature. We also find that finite-size effects are much smaller in the gTPQ state than in the canonical TPQ state. This also shows that in the ensemble formulation the grand-canonical Gibbs state of a finite-size system simulates an infinite system much better than the canonical Gibbs state.

The mean-field limit of quantum Bose gases at positive temperature

Jürg Martin Fröhlich, Antti Knowles, Benjamin Schlein +1 more

We prove that the grand canonical Gibbs state of an interacting quantum Bose gas converges to the Gibbs measure of a nonlinear Schrödinger equation in the mean-field limit, where the density of the gas becomes large and the interaction strength is proportional to the inverse density. Our results hold in dimensions d ⩽ 3 d \leqslant 3 . For d > 1 d > 1 the Gibbs measure is supported on distributions of negative regularity and we have to renormalize the interaction. More precisely, we prove the convergence of the relative partition function and of the reduced density matrices in the L r L^r -norm with optimal exponent r r . Moreover, we prove the convergence in the L ∞ L^\infty -norm of Wick-ordered reduced density matrices, which allows us to control correlations of Wick-ordered particle densities as well as the asymptotic distribution of the particle number. Our proof is based on a functional integral representation of the grand canonical Gibbs state, in which convergence to the mean-field limit follows formally from an infinite-dimensional stationary phase argument for ill-defined non-Gaussian measures. We make this argument rigorous by introducing a white-noise-type auxiliary field, through which the functional integral is expressed in terms of propagators of heat equations driven by time-dependent periodic random potentials and can, in turn, be expressed as a gas of interacting Brownian loops and paths. When the gas is confined by an external trapping potential, we control the decay of the reduced density matrices using excursion probabilities of Brownian bridges.
