Abstract

We investigate the influence of a screw dislocation, characterized by the dislocation parameter, on the optical response of a parabolic GaAs cylindrical quantum wire under the combined effects of temperature, hydrostatic pressure, and the axial magnetic field. Using a torsion-modified metric together with pressure- and temperature-dependent material properties, namely the effective mass and dielectric permittivity, we obtain exact solutions of the Schrödinger equation in terms of Whittaker functions. The screw dislocation introduces a \(k_z\)-dependent coupling that breaks the symmetry between the angular momentum states \(m\) and \(-m\) and modifies the centrifugal term in the effective potential. Based on the resulting eigenstates, we evaluate the linear and third-order nonlinear optical absorption coefficients, as well as the corresponding refractive index changes, for the dipole-allowed transitions \(m = 0 \to +1\) and \(m = 0 \to -1\). Our results show that increasing the dislocation parameter produces a pronounced redshift and suppresses the resonance amplitude for the \(m = 0 \to +1\) transition, whereas the \(m = 0 \to -1\) transition exhibits a blueshift accompanied by peak enhancement. We further find that increasing temperature shifts the resonances toward higher photon energies and enhances their amplitudes, while hydrostatic pressure causes a redshift and reduces the peak intensity for both transitions. In addition, the magnetic field strengthens the optical response and induces a blueshift for the \(m = 0 \to +1\) transition, whereas the opposite behavior is obtained for the \(m = 0 \to -1\) transition. We have also examined the behavior of the refractive index changes, which exhibit analogous asymmetric dependence on the dislocation parameter.

Effects of hydrostatic pressure and temperature on the nonlinear optical properties of GaAs/GaAlAs zigzag quantum well

Ahmet Türker Tüzemen, Hassen Dakhlaoui, Fatih Ungan

We have examined theoretically how the temperature and the hydrostatic pressure affect the total optical absorption coefficients, the total refractive index changes, and the second harmonic generation coefficients for GaAs/GaAlAs zigzag quantum well structure. The diagonalisation method and the effective mass approximation have been used to obtain the numerical solution of the Schrödinger equation and energy levels, respectively. The analytical expressions of the optical properties were obtained by using the compact density matrix and iterative methods. When the temperature (hydrostatic pressure) is increased, the resonant peaks’ positions of the total optical absorption coefficients and the relative refractive index changes are shifted to higher energies/blueshift (lower energies/red-shift) with amplitude increment (decrement). Additionally, the resonant peak position of the second harmonic generation coefficient shifts to higher energies/blueshift (lower energies) and also decrease (increase) in magnitude with increasing temperature (hydrostatic pressure).

The effect of temperature, hydrostatic pressure and magnetic field on the nonlinear optical properties of AlGaAs/GaAs semi-parabolic quantum well

Jin-Feng You, Qiang Zhao, Zhihai Zhang +3 more

In this paper, we explore the optical properties of AlGaAs/GaAs semi-parabolic quantum well (QW) under different temperature, hydrostatic pressure and applied magnetic field. We calculate the nonlinear optical absorption coefficients and the refractive index changes (RICs) with the compact density-matrix approach and iterative method. Then, within the framework of the effective mass and parabolic-band approximations, the energy eigenvalues and the corresponding wave functions for semi-parabolic QW have been obtained by the finite difference method. The theoretical findings show that (1) the energy spectrum depends strongly on temperature, hydrostatic pressure and applied magnetic field; (2) the linear and third-order nonlinear optical absorption coefficients and the RICs are quite sensitive to temperature, hydrostatic pressure and applied magnetic field. Our study provides a theoretical basis for the fabrication of QW structure.

Tuning of nonlinear optical characteristics of a cylindrical quantum dot by external fields and structure parameters

Mohammed Jaouane, Ahmed Sali, Esin KASAPOĞLU +1 more

In this present study, we have theoretically investigated the effect of applied external electric field and non-resonant intense laser field, as well as the adjustable physical parameters (A, M, and η) of the system, on the linear and nonlinear of GaAs/GaAlAs cylindrical quantum dot. The confinement potential of the quantum dot is composed of the axial potential with a Razavy-type quantum well in the z-direction, and the cylindrical-type potential in the radial direction. To achieve this goal, the wave functions, and the corresponding eigenvalues of the electron are investigated by resolving the time-independent Schrödinger equation using the diagonalisation technique in terms of the effective mass approximation. The linear and nonlinear optical properties’ expressions have been calculated with the help of the compact density matrix method. Our numerical results show that by changing the A, M, and η parameters, we can see a blueshift or redshift in the total optical absorption coefficients (TOACs) and relative refractive index changes (RRICs). Additionally, they are redshifted, and their extrema increase as the radius increases. The increase in electric field or laser field intensities generates a strong displacement of the resonant peak position towards the higher energies, diminishes the TOACs magnitude, and shrinks RRICs extrema. The model potential used in the computation is important, and the study of it will be practical in the development and research of nanostructures systems.

Effects of hydrostatic pressure, temperature, and position-dependent mass on the nonlinear optical properties of triple delta-doped GaAs quantum well

Ahmet Türker Tüzemen, E. B. Al, H. Sayrac +3 more

Abstract In this study, we thoroughly investigate the impacts of hydrostatic pressure, temperature, and position-dependent mass (PDM) on the nonlinear optical properties of asymmetric triple δ-doped GaAs quantum wells. Our analysis covers total optical absorption coefficients, relative refractive index changes, nonlinear optical rectification, second harmonic generation, and third harmonic generation. Initially, we employ PDM to solve the time-independent Schrödinger equation using the diagonalization method under effective mass and parabolic band approaches, considering pressure and temperature dependencies. Utilizing the first four energy eigenvalues and eigenfunctions, we apply the compact density matrix method to compute the system’s nonlinear optical properties numerically. The results indicate a shift in optical property peak positions toward lower (higher) energy spectra with increasing hydrostatic pressure (temperature). Furthermore, the influence of PDM shifts the system’s optical properties toward the higher energy spectrum, resembling the effect of temperature. From an experimental and theoretical perspective, one of the topics that researchers work on most is GaAs-based δ-doped systems (δ-doped heterojunction bipolar transistors, δ-doped field effect transistors, δ-multiple independent gate field effect transistors, etc.). We believe these findings will provide valuable insights for the researchers involved in GaAs-based δ-doped optoelectronic device design.

The Combined Influence of Hydrostatic Pressure and Temperature on Nonlinear Optical Properties of GaAs/Ga0.7Al0.3As Morse Quantum Well in the Presence of an Applied Magnetic Field

Zhihai Zhang, Jianhui Yuan, Kangxian Guo

Studies aimed at understanding the nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of GaAs/Ga0.7Al0.3As morse quantum well (QW) have focused on the intersubband optical absorption coefficients (OACs) and refractive index changes (RICs). These studies have taken two complimentary approaches: (1) The compact-density-matrix approach and iterative method have been used to obtain the expressions of OACs and RICs in morse QW. (2) Finite difference techniques have been used to obtain energy eigenvalues and their corresponding eigenfunctions of GaAs/Ga0.7Al0.3As morse QW under an applied magnetic field, hydrostatic pressure, and temperature. Our results show that the hydrostatic pressure and magnetic field have a significant influence on the position and the magnitude of the resonant peaks of the nonlinear OACs and RICs. Simultaneously, a saturation case is observed on the total absorption spectrum, which is modulated by the hydrostatic pressure and magnetic field. Physical reasons have been analyzed in depth.

Magnetic field effects on the linear and nonlinear optical properties of coaxial cylindrical quantum well wires

M.J. Karimi, G. Rezaei

In this work, the influence of an external magnetic field on the refractive index changes and optical absorption coefficients of a typical GaAs/AlxGa1−xAs coaxial cylindrical quantum well wire is studied. Energy eigenvalues and eigenvectors in the presence of a magnetic field are calculated using the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method and optical properties are obtained using the compact density matrix approach. It is found that the resonant peak values of the linear and the third-order nonlinear refractive index changes as well as the optical absorption coefficients of a cylindrical quantum wire decrease with increasing the magnetic field. However, these optical properties of a coaxial cylindrical quantum well wire are nonmonotonic functions of the magnetic field, due to the anticrossing of the subbands. The anticrossing effect leads to a large increase of the resonant peak values of these optical properties. Results also indicate that the resonant peak values of these optical properties decrease with increasing the barrier width.
