Abstract

We develop a general perturbation theory for the local quantum uncertainty (LQU), a discord-type quantifier of nonclassicality based on the Wigner-Yanase skew information. Starting from a perturbed density matrix $ρ= ρ_0 + ερ_1$,we derive an explicit first-order expansion of $ρ^{1/2}$ using an integral representation based on the gamma function, and reduce the LQU optimization to the diagonalization of a $(d_1^2-1) \times (d_1^2-1)$ matrix $w = w^0 + w^1$ defined in terms of the $\mathrm{SU}(d_1)$ generators. The framework is valid for composite systems of arbitrary dimension $d_1 \times d_2$ and provides a direct computational route to the LQU from the spectral decomposition of the unperturbed state. We further specialize the theory to the quantum linear response regime, where the perturbation is generated by a time-dependent external field, and $w^1$ acquires explicit dependence on the driving frequency $ω$, the eigenstates and occupation probabilities of the equilibrium Hamiltonian $H_0$, and the matrix elements of the coupling operator $\hat{A}$. As an illustration, we apply the formalism to the isotropic Heisenberg model of two coupled spins driven by a local periodic magnetic field, obtaining closed-form expressions for the LQU as a function of temperature $T$ and frequency $ω$. Comparison with the concurrence shows that above the entanglement critical temperature $T_c$, the external field induces a resonantly enhanced quantum discord without generating entanglement, demonstrating that frequency acts as a tunable modulator of nonclassicality -- an effect of purely quantum-discord type inaccessible to entanglement-based quantifiers.

Comparative Study of LQU and LQFI Measures of Quantum Correlations in Two-Spin-1/2 Heisenberg Systems

Mikhail A. Yurischev

Abstract Many measures of quantum correlations have been introduced so far, and now their properties are carefully studied both theoretically and experimentally. The most important among them are quantum entanglement and quantum discord. Recently, it was shown that the Wigner–Yanase skew information and quantum Fisher information also can serve as measures of nonclassical correlations. These discordlike measures are called local quantum uncertainty (LQU) and interferometric power or local quantum Fisher information (LQFI), correspondingly. In this paper the behavior of LQU and LQFI is considered at thermal equilibrium of the two-qubit Heisenberg models in the absence and presence of an external magnetic field; these cases correspond to the Bell-diagonal and general X states, respectively.

Robust thermal correlations induced by spin–orbit interactions

Ahmad N. Khedr, Ali H. Homid, Abdel‐Baset A. Mohamed +4 more

In this work, we demonstrate that the thermal nonclassical correlations can enhance and become more stable under the magnetic field and second-order spin–orbit interaction effect. Also, we show that the local quantum uncertainty measure can reveal purely quantum correlations beyond other quantifiers of correlations. Our analytical model describes a Heisenberg XYZ two-spin system with an inhomogeneous magnetic field and spin–orbit interaction. A special emphasis is devoted to local quantum uncertainty, concurrence, and Bell-nonlocality measures to investigate the correlations of the bipartite-system at the equilibrium temperature. Our results indicate that temperature, magnetic field, and magnetic field inhomogeneity with DMI and Kaplan–Shekhtman–Entin-Wohlman–Aharony (KSEA) exchanges all play a role in determining the degree of correlation between the quantum spins to some extent. The KSEA interaction greatly enhances the quantum correlation in the system whereas quantum quantifiers are more stable under the influence of the external magnetic field, especially when inhomogeneous and homogeneous magnetic field are near to zero. Furthermore, these findings suggest that the thermal LQU captures a stronger quantum correlation than the Bell-nonlocality and entanglement measures.

Nonclassical correlations for quantum metrology in thermal equilibrium

Akira Sone, Quntao Zhuang, Changhao Li +2 more

Nonclassical correlations beyond entanglement might provide a resource in quantum information tasks, such as quantum computation or quantum metrology. Quantum discord is a measure of nonclassical correlations to which entanglement belongs as a subset. Exploring the operational meaning of quantum discord as a resource in quantum information processing tasks, such as quantum metrology, is of essential importance to our understanding of nonclassical correlations. In our recent work [Phys. Rev. A 98, 012115 (2018)], we considered a protocol---which we call the greedy local thermometry protocol---for estimating the temperature of thermal equilibrium states from local measurements, elucidating the role of diagonal discord in enhancing the protocol sensitivity in the high-temperature limit. In this paper, we extend our results to a general greedy local parameter estimation scenario. In particular, we introduce a quantum discord---which we call discord for local metrology---to quantify the nonclassical correlations induced by the local optimal measurement on the subsystem. We demonstrate explicitly that discord for local metrology plays a role in sensitivity enhancement in the high-temperature limit by showing its relation to loss in quantum Fisher information. In particular, it coincides with diagonal discord for estimating a linear coupling parameter.

Quantum correlations and coherence in a two-qubit anisotropic $XY$ under magnetic field

Ahmed Jellal, Pablo Díaz, David Laroze

We study thermal quantum correlations and coherence in Heisenberg $XY$ model with anisotropic interactions under a uniform magnetic field $ B $. Using concurrence $C$, local quantum uncertainty (LQU), Bell-Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt (CHSH) nonlocality $ \mathbb{B}$, and coherence $C_l$ as quantifiers, we analyze how magnetic anisotropy $ δ_m $, coupling anisotropy $ δ_c $, Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction $ D $, temperature $ T $, and magnetic field $ B $ modulate quantum resources. At low temperatures and relevant magnetic fields, the entanglement is maximized, but exhibits sudden death for $ δ_m = 0 $, which turns into a smooth decay as $ δ_m $ increases, highlighting its stabilizing role. LQU shows that stronger anisotropy suppresses quantum correlations, while $ \mathbb{B} $ induces a non-monotonic response peaking at a critical field $ B_c $. Bell-CHSH nonlocality violations ($ \mathbb{B} > 2 $) persist below $ B_c $, but thermal noise ($ T \geq 1 $) suppresses them. Coherence $ C_l $ is most robust to thermal fluctuations, especially for high \( δ_m \), which also dampens abrupt quantum phase transitions. The DM interaction is essential for entanglement generation, with $ D $ and anisotropy synergistically enhancing correlation resilience. We identify a hierarchy of thermal degradation: nonlocality ($ \mathbb{B} $) vanishes first, followed by entanglement ($ C $), then general quantum correlations (LQU), while coherence $ C_l $ persists the longest. These results demonstrate tunable control of quantum resources via anisotropy and external parameters, providing insights for the design of robust spin-based quantum technologies.

Local quantum uncertainty in a two-qubit Heisenberg spin chain with intrinsic decoherence

You-neng Guo, Hu-Ping Peng, Qinglong Tian +2 more

Abstract Quantum correlation plays an important role in quantum information processing, for which various quantifiers have been proposed so far. In this paper, we address the dynamics of local quantum uncertainty (LQU) as a reliable quantifier of quantum correlation in a two-qubit Heisenberg spin chain in the presence of nonuniform external magnetic field and Dzyaloshinski-Moriya interaction with intrinsic decoherence. The influences of the initial states, external magnetic field strength, Dzyaloshinski-Moriya interaction strength and intrinsic decoherence rate on the dynamics of LQU have been in detail investigated. Our analytical results show that the dynamics of LQU is strongly depended on the form of initial states. For an initial correlated state, the dynamical behaviors of LQU exhibit either monotonic decay or damped oscillations with respect to time. While for an initial separable state, quantum correlation quantified by LQU can be created due to the Dzyaloshinski-Moriya interaction and Heisenberg anisotropic interaction. Besides, the relationship between LQU and l -norm coherence or concurrence is also demonstrated in the present model.

SU(N)-Driven Local Quantum Uncertainty for Quantum Computers

Hui Li, Jian-Nan Hu, Ruo-Yu Ma +1 more

We extend local quantum uncertainty (LQU) from qubits to arbitrary dimensions by constructing an SU(N) generator basis. A closed-form expression valid for any bipartite system with local dimension N ≥ 2 is derived and evaluated for the three-dimensional Werner state. Optimizing over all local von Neumann measurements yields LQU, which monotonically decreases from maximal entanglement to separability and serves as an efficient metric for high-dimensional quantum correlations.
