Abstract

Within the framework of quantum field theory and the Standard Model (SM), we investigate the prospects of studying entanglement measures and Bell-type spin-correlation observables in the electroweak process $e^- e^+\to τ^-τ^+$ at the center-of-mass (COM) energies of $\sqrt{s}=3.670,4.630$, and $7.000$ GeV at the proposed Super Tau-Charm Facility (STCF) in China. Focusing on the hadronic decay channel $τ^\pm\to π^\pm ν$, we determine the spin-correlation coefficients of the $τ^-τ^+$ system within the SM framework using measurable production kinematics, namely the $τ$ velocities and scattering angles in the COM frame. From these correlation coefficients, we construct concurrence and a Bell-type correlation combination as defined in the literature. Assuming an integrated luminosity of 1 ab$^{-1}$ for each considered COM energy, and incorporating realistic detector efficiencies as well as statistical and systematic uncertainties, we estimate the expected sensitivity to these observables at STCF. Our results indicate that, under the SM hypothesis, the corresponding Bell-type correlation combinations could be resolved with high statistical significance at STCF.

Probing Quantum Entanglement in $τ^+τ^-$ Pairs via the $ππ$ Channel at STCF

Xiaokang Li, Chentao Bao, Hai Chen +2 more

Quantum entanglement and Bell-inequality violation in $τ^+τ^-$ pairs provide a sensitive probe of quantum correlations in high-energy interactions. We present a feasibility study of $e^+e^- \to τ^+τ^-$ at the proposed Super Tau-Charm Facility based on full Monte Carlo simulation at $\sqrt{s} = 7$ GeV, focusing on the $ππ$ channel ($τ^\pm \to π^\pmν$), which offers the maximal spin-analyzing power $|κ| = 1$ and the simplest final-state topology for validating the quantum-tomography framework. We establish a consistency chain from the tree-level QED prediction through truth-level and detector-level reconstruction, yielding a reconstructed concurrence of $0.279 \pm 0.007$ with the good-solution approach. A complementary full-simulation study of the $ρρ$ channel is also briefly reported. These results demonstrate that the STCF can provide a competitive platform for precision studies of quantum correlations in $τ$-lepton pairs.

Probing entanglement and testing Bell inequality violation with e+e−→τ+τ− at Belle II

K. Ehatäht, Marco E. Fabbrichesi, Luca Marzola +1 more

We present a feasibility study to probe quantum entanglement and Bell inequality violation in the process e+e−→τ+τ− at a center-of-mass energy of s=10.579 GeV . The sensitivity of the analysis is enhanced by applying a selection on the scattering angle ϑ in the τ+τ− center-of-mass frame. We analyze events in which both τ leptons decay to hadrons, using a combination of decay channels τ−→π−ντ , τ−→π−π0ντ , and τ−→π−π+π−ντ . The spin orientation of the τ leptons in these decays is reconstructed using the polarimeter-vector method. Assuming a dataset of 200 million τ+τ− events and accounting for experimental resolutions, we expect the observation of quantum entanglement and Bell inequality violation by the Belle-II experiment will be possible with a significance well in excess of five standard deviations. We present a feasibility study to probe quantum entanglement and Belle inequality violation in the process $\textrm{e}^{+}\textrm{e}^{-} \rightarrow τ^{+}τ^{-}$ at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s} = 10.579$ GeV. The sensitivity of the analysis is enhanced by applying a selection on the scattering angle $\vartheta$ in the $τ^{+}τ^{-}$ center-of-mass frame. We analyze events in which both $τ$ leptons decay to hadrons, using a combination of decay channels $τ^{-} \rightarrow π^{-}ν_τ$, $τ^{-} \rightarrow π^{-}π^{0}ν_τ$, and $τ^{-} \rightarrow π^{-}π^{+}π^{-}ν_τ$. The spin orientation of the $τ$ leptons in these decays is reconstructed using the polarimeter-vector method. Assuming a dataset of $200$ million $τ^{+}τ^{-}$ events and accounting for experimental resolutions, we expect the observation of quantum entanglement and Bell inequality violation by the Belle-II experiment will be possible with a significance well in excess of five standard deviations.

Entanglement and Bell nonlocality in τ+τ− at the BEPC

Tao Han, Matthew Low, Youle Su

A bstract Quantum entanglement and Bell nonlocality are two phenomena that occur only in quantum systems. In both cases, these are correlations between two subsystems that are classically absent. Traditionally, these phenomena have been measured in low-energy photon and electron experiments, but more recently they have also been measured in high-energy particle collider environments. In this work, we propose measuring the entanglement and Bell nonlocality in the τ + τ − state near and above its kinematic threshold at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPC). We find that in the existing dataset, entanglement is observable if systematic uncertainties are kept to 1%. In the upcoming run between 4.0 and 5.6 GeV, the entanglement is predicted to be measurable with a precision better than 4% and Bell nonlocality can be established at 5 σ as long as systematic uncertainty can be controlled at level of 0 . 5%–2 . 0%, depending on the center-of-mass energy.

Quantum Entanglement Between Z Bosons from the Higgs Decay

Runxuan Wang

Entanglement is a key property of quantum systems. In this Letter the first measurements of quantum entanglement between spins in pairs of 𝑍 bosons are reported, using proton-proton collision data from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at center-of-mass energies of 13 and 13.6 TeV, recorded with the ATLAS detector. Measurements of angular observables sensitive to 𝑍⁢𝑍* spin-density-matrix elements in the 𝐻→𝑍⁢𝑍*→ℓ+⁢ℓ−⁢ℓ+⁢ℓ− process yield coefficients 𝐶2,1,2,−1=−0.71±0.45 and 𝐶2,2,2,−2 =0.08 ±0.44, consistent with their Standard Model predictions. A complementary hypothesis test using the full angular distribution, and relying on several Standard Model assumptions in the decays, provides substantially higher sensitivity to quantum correlations and disfavors the separable-state hypothesis at a significance of 4.7 standard deviations (expected 4.9⁢𝜎) relative to the entangled Standard Model hypothesis. These results provide strong evidence of quantum entanglement between massive bosons (spin qutrits) at the electroweak scale.

Disentangling new physics with quantum entanglement in t t ¯ production at future lepton colliders

Masato Arai, Kentarou Mawatari, Nobuchika Okada

We investigate quantum entanglement and Bell-inequality violation in top-antitop pair production at future lepton colliders such as the International Linear Collider and multi-TeV muon colliders. Within the Standard Model (SM), the process proceeds through s -channel γ and Z exchange and exhibits characteristic spin-correlation patterns that encode a nontrivial amount of entanglement. We then examine how these features are modified in several well-motivated extensions of the SM; (i) a neutral scalar mediator that couples to charged leptons and top quarks via Yukawa interactions and contributes as an additional s -channel exchange, (ii) the minimal gauged U ( 1 ) B − L model, which introduces a new neutral gauge boson Z ′ coupling vectorially to SM fermions, and (iii) a Randall-Sundrum scenario, in which the exchange of massive Kaluza-Klein gravitons arising from a warped extra dimension induces additional spin-dependent interactions. For all cases, we evaluate quantum-information observables including the entanglement marker, the concurrence, and the maximal Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt parameter, and study their dependence on the center-of-mass energy, scattering angle, and model parameters. We find that, relative to the SM expectation, the entanglement is typically reduced in the scalar-mediator scenario, while sizable deviations can arise in the U ( 1 ) B − L and Randall-Sundrum cases for phenomenologically relevant regions of parameter space. These results demonstrate the potential of quantum-information observables as sensitive probes of new particles and their interaction patterns in future lepton colliders.
