On $\mathscr{T}$-based orthomodular dynamic algebras

Abstract

This paper establishes a categorical equivalence between the category $\mathbb{COL}$ of complete orthomodular lattices and the category $\mathscr{T}\mathbb{ODA}$ of $\mathscr{T}$-based orthomodular dynamic algebras. Complete orthomodular lattices serve as the static algebraic foundation for quantum logic, modeling the testable properties of quantum systems. In contrast, $\mathcal{T}$-based orthomodular dynamic algebras, which are specialized unital involutive quantales, formalize the composition and quantum-logical properties of quantum actions. This result refines prior connections between orthomodular lattices and dynamic algebras, provides a constructive bridge between static and dynamic quantum logic perspectives, and extends naturally to Hilbert lattices and broader quantum-theoretic structures.

Categorical Equivalence Between Finitary Orthomodular Dynamic Algebras and Orthomodular Lattices

Juanda Kelana Putra, Richard Smolka

This paper reveals a categorical equivalence connecting two distinct quantum logic structures. The first is the orthomodular lattice, an algebraic system designed to formalize the properties of quantum systems. The second is a finitary orthomodular dynamic algebra, a specialized development of the orthomodular dynamic algebra where the underlying quantum actions are restricted to be finitary. The applicability of the result extends to more specialized lattices, such as Hilbert lattices of closed subspaces of a Hilbert space, beyond general orthomodular lattices. As these lattice structures exhibit connections to a diverse array of quantum structures, the established equivalence categorically bridges unital involutive m-semilattices with a broad spectrum of quantum formalisms.

Quantum categories for quantum logic

В.Л. Васюков

The paper is the contribution to quantum toposophy focusing on the abstract orthomodular structures (following Dunn-Moss-Wang terminology). Early quantum toposophical approach to "abstract quantum logic" was proposed based on the topos of functors $\mathsf{[E,Sets]}$ where $\mathsf{E}$ is a so-called orthomodular preorder category – a modification of categorically rewritten orthomodular lattice (taking into account that like any lattice it will be a finite co-complete preorder category). In the paper another kind of categorical semantics of quantum logic is discussed which is based on the modification of the topos construction itself – so called $quantos$ – which would be evaluated as a non-classical modification of topos with some extra structure allowing to take into consideration the peculiarity of negation in orthomodular quantum logic. The algebra of subobjects of quantos is not the Heyting algebra but an orthomodular lattice. Quantoses might be apprehended as an abstract reflection of Landsman's proposal of "Bohrification", i.e., the mathematical interpretation of Bohr's classical concepts by commutative $C^*$-algebras, which in turn are studied in their quantum habitat of noncommutative $C^*$-algebras – more fundamental structures than commutative $C^*$-algebras. The Bohrification suggests that topos-theoretic approach also should be modified. Since topos by its nature is an intuitionistic construction then Bohrification in abstract case should be transformed in an application of categorical structure based on an orthomodular lattice which is more general construction than Heyting algebra – orthomodular lattices are non-distributive while Heyting algebras are distributive ones. Toposes thus should be studied in their quantum habitat of "orthomodular" categories i.e. of quntoses. Also an interpretation of some well-known systems of orthomodular quantum logic in quantos of functors $\mathsf{[E,QSets]}$ is constructed where $\mathsf{QSets}$ is a quantos (not a topos) of quantum sets. The completeness of those systems in respect to the semantics proposed is proved.

Logic of Dynamics & Dynamics of Logic; Some Paradigm Examples

Bob Coecke, David Moore, Sonja Smets

This paper surveys some recent developments towards a dynamic quantum logic and outlines its explicite construction -- some analogies and contrasts with other logics of dynamics are indicated. Abstract: The development of ``(static) operational quantum logic" points out that classical boolean structures are too rigid to describe the actual and potential properties of quantum systems. On the other hand, an intuitionistic perspective on operational quantum logic, guides us in the direction of incorporating dynamics logically by reconsidering the primitive propositions required to describe the behavior of a quantum system, in particular in view of the emergent disjunctivity due to the non-determinism of quantum measurements. A further elaboration on "intuitionistic quantum logic" emerges into a "dynamic operational quantum logic", which allows us to express dynamic reasoning in the sense that we can capture how actual properties propagate, including their temporal causal structure, and provides a unified logical description of systems which evolve or which are submitted to measurements. This setting reveals that even static operational quantum logic bears a hidden dynamic ingredient in terms of what is called "the orthomodularity" of the lattice-structure. Focusing on the quantale semantics for dynamic operational quantum logic, we delineate some points of difference with the existing quantale semantics for (non)-commutative linear logic.

Orthomodular lattices, Foulis Semigroups and Dagger Kernel Categories

Bart Jacobs

This paper is a sequel to arXiv:0902.2355 and continues the study of quantum logic via dagger kernel categories. It develops the relation between these categories and both orthomodular lattices and Foulis semigroups. The relation between the latter two notions has been uncovered in the 1960s. The current categorical perspective gives a broader context and reconstructs this relationship between orthomodular lattices and Foulis semigroups as special instance.
