Abstract

In this paper, we have studied the critical temperature $T_c$ of continuous spin $2d$ square-lattice Ising model using Monte-Carlo simulation. We have considered spins $s$ in a bounded interval, where $s \in [-1,+1]$ in square-lattice configuration with periodic boundary condition. We have observed that the critical temperature $T_c$ is approximately $0.925$, showing a clear second order phase transition. Considering finite size scaling, we have also obtained the critical exponents associated with susceptibility, specific heat, magnetization and we find that these values are in good agreement with the corresponding values obtained for the standard $2d$ Ising universality class.

Critical Behavior Simulation of the Two-Dimensional Ising Model—A Computational Physics Study Based on the Monte Carlo Method

佳钢 李

To demonstrate the application of computational physics in modern statistical physics, this paper investigates the critical behavior of a finite-size ferromagnetic system based on the two-dimensional square-lattice Ising model.A nearest-neighbor Ising Hamiltonian is constructed, and periodic boundary conditions are adopted to reduce finite-boundary effects. The Metropolis Monte Carlo algorithm is used to sample spin configurations at different temperatures, while energy, magnetization, specific heat, magnetic susceptibility and Binder cumulant are calculated to describe the transition from an ordered state to a disordered state. The simulation results show that the system exhibits clear long-range order at low temperatures, where the order parameter remains high.As temperature increases, thermal fluctuations become stronger, magnetization decreases rapidly, and the system gradually evolves into a disordered state. The specific heat curve shows a pronounced peak at approximately (T = 2.269), while the susceptibility peak shifts slightly toward the high-temperature side due to finite-size effects and the discrete temperature grid.Overall, the simulated critical region is consistent with the theoretical critical temperature of the two-dimensional square-lattice Ising model.Spin-configuration analysis further reveals enhanced fluctuations and domain reconstruction near the critical region. In addition, a thermalization criterion and an extended sampling test for L = 48 near the critical region are added to examine the influence of finite sampling and equilibration. These results indicate that Monte Carlo simulation of the two-dimensional Ising model can effectively reproduce continuous phase transition, critical fluctuation and finite-size effects, providing a basic computational case for understanding critical phenomena in complex systems and data-driven physical analysis.

Stability of the universality class of phase transitions against spin interaction variations in the clean two-dimensional square-lattice Ising chain

Khansaa Y. Taha, Ahmed K. Ibrahim

We perform a comprehensive numerical study of how variations in microscopic coupling strength affect critical behavior in the two-dimensional Ising model. Using extensive Monte Carlo simulations based on the Wolff cluster algorithm, we investigate the clean Ising model on a square lattice for interaction strengths in the range 0.80 ≤ J ≤ 1.20. While the exact solution at J = 1 has long established the model’s critical properties, a systematic numerical assessment of universality under continuous coupling rescaling has not been performed. Here, we address this gap by analyzing systems of linear size L = 20 − 500, allowing for high-precision finite-size scaling of thermodynamic observables. For each coupling, the critical temperature T_C(J) is determined via finite-size extrapolation of the susceptibility maxima, yielding results in quantitative agreement with Onsager’s exact prediction. At the extrapolated critical points, we extract the critical exponents ν, β, γ, and α through detailed scaling analyses. These exponents remain consistent with the exact Ising benchmarks across the full range of interaction strengths, confirming that the universal aspects of the phase transition are preserved. Our findings demonstrate that modifying the microscopic coupling strength rescales the critical temperature without altering the asymptotic critical behavior, thereby providing a clear and quantitative confirmation of the robustness of the two-dimensional Ising universality class.

Critical properties of an antiferromagnetic Ising model on a square lattice with interactions of the next-to-nearest neighbors

Akai Kurbanovich Murtazaev, Рамазанов Магомедшейх Курбанович, М. К. Бадиев

The critical properties of an antiferromagnetic Ising model on a square lattice with interactions of the next-to-nearest neighbors are investigated by a replica Monte-Carlo method. Using the finite-size scaling theory the static critical exponents of specific heat, ordering parameter, susceptibility, correlation radius as well as the Fisher exponent are calculated. An analysis of data is performed both with and without taking into account a correction to the finite-size scaling. It was found that in the model under consideration the second order phase transition is observed. It is shown that this model belongs to the new class of universality of critical behavior.

Critical behavior of the 2D Ising model modulated by the Octonacci sequence

Gladstone Alencar Alves, M.S. Vasconcelos, T. F. A. Alves

Abstract We investigated the Ising model on a square lattice with ferro and antiferromagnetic interactions modulated by the quasiperiodic Octonacci sequence in both directions of the lattice. We have applied the replica exchange Monte Carlo (parallel tempering) technique to calculate the thermodynamic quantities of the system. We obtained the order parameter, the associated magnetic susceptibility ( χ ) and the specific heat ( c ) in order to characterize the universality class of the phase transition. Also, we use the finite size scaling method to obtain the critical temperature of the system and the critical exponents β , γ and ν . In the low temperature limit we have obtained a continuous transition with critical temperature around T c ≈ 1.413 . The system obeys the Ising universality class with logarithmic corrections. We found estimatives for the correction exponents β ^ , γ ^ and λ ^ by using the finite size scaling technique.

Critical temperature and magnetic properties of new 2D lattice model with double hexagonal symmetry: Monte Carlo study

Sufyan Naji, Mohammad N. Murshed, M. A. Ahlam +3 more

Here, we present a theoretical study of a new statistical lattice model based on a double hexagonal structure associated with G2 symmetry. Using Monte Carlo simulation, we study the magnetic properties of the Ising-1/2 model with spin values σ = ±1 residing on the sites of our double hexagonal lattice. In particular, we calculate and analyze the thermal behavior of the total and partial magnetizations as well as the corresponding susceptibilities for different lattice sizes. The present study shows that the total and partial magnetizations vanish at the same critical temperature. This vanishing is continuous, indicating that the type of the transition is a second order. With the help of the finite-size scaling analysis, we estimate the critical transition temperature related to the uniform coupling interaction value equals one. Our findings reflect a good estimation of the critical temperature, TC that is equal to 2.976∓0.004JkB. The obtained critical temperature of our presented model can be found between the critical temperatures of hexagonal and triangular lattice models.

Critical properties of a two-dimensional Ising magnet with quasiperiodic interactions

Gladstone Alencar Alves, M.S. Vasconcelos, T. F. A. Alves

We address the study of quasiperiodic interactions on a square lattice by using an Ising model with ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic exchange interactions following a quasiperiodic Fibonacci sequence in both directions of a square lattice. We applied the Monte Carlo method, together with the Metropolis algorithm, to calculate the thermodynamic quantities of the system. We obtained the Edwards-Anderson order parameter q_{EA}, the magnetic susceptibility χ, and the specific heat c in order to characterize the universality class of the phase transition. We also use the finite size scaling method to obtain the critical temperature of the system and the critical exponents β,γ, and ν. In the low-temperature limit we obtained a spin-glass phase with critical temperature around T_{c}≈2.274, and the critical exponents β,γ, and ν, indicating that the quasiperiodic order induces a change in the universality class of the system. Also, we discovered a spin-glass ordering in a two-dimensional system which is rare and, as far as we know, the unique example is an under-frustrated Ising model.
