Abstract

We introduce an entanglement witness that identifies off-diagonal long-range order (ODLRO) -- a distinctive form of entanglement -- in systems containing both fermionic and bosonic particles. By analyzing the particle-hole reduced density matrices of each subsystem, the approach detects ODLRO independently in both fermionic and bosonic sectors and identifies when long-range order develops across the entire mixed-particle system. The witness also quantifies the magnitude of ODLRO within each particle type, revealing how fermionic and bosonic correlations combine to form the total entanglement of the system, including a bosonic condensation of particle-hole pairs driven by many-body correlations rather than particle statistics. Using the Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick spin model, we show how the transition from ODLRO localized to one particle type to ODLRO shared by both particle types captures the onset of collective entanglement in a mixed-particle environment, providing new insight into systems where fermionic and bosonic correlations coexist.

Spatial entanglement from off-diagonal long-range order in a Bose-Einstein condensate

We investigate spatial entanglement---particle-number entanglement between regions of space---in an ideal bosonic gas. We quantify the amount of spatial entanglement around the transition temperature for condensation $({T}_{C})$ by probing the gas with two localized two-level systems. We show that spatial entanglement in the gas is directly related to filling of the ground-state energy level and therefore to the off-diagonal long-range order of the system and the onset of condensation.

Long-range multipartite entanglement close to a first-order quantum phase transition

Julia Stasińska, B. Rogers, Mauro Paternostro +2 more

We provide insight into the quantum correlations structure present in strongly correlated systems beyond the standard framework of bipartite entanglement. To this aim we first exploit rotationally invariant states as a test bed to detect genuine tripartite entanglement beyond the nearest neighbor in spin-1/2 models. Then we construct in a closed analytical form a family of entanglement witnesses which provides a sufficient condition to determine if a state of a many-body system formed by an arbitrary number of spin-1/2 particles possesses genuine tripartite entanglement, independently of the details of the model. We illustrate our method by analyzing in detail the anisotropic $XXZ$ spin chain close to its phase transitions, where we demonstrate the presence of long-range multipartite entanglement near the critical point and the breaking of the symmetries associated with the quantum phase transition.

Witnessing pairing correlations in identical-particle systems

Çağan Aksak, S. Turgut

Quantum correlations and entanglement in identical-particle systems have been a puzzling question which has attracted vast interest and widely different approaches. Witness formalism developed first for entanglement measurement can be adopted to other kind of correlations. An approach is introduced by Kraus \emph{et al.}, [Phys. Rev. A \textbf{79}, 012306 (2009)] based on pairing correlations in fermionic systems and the use of witness formalism to detect pairing. In this contribution, a two-particle-annihilation operator is used for constructing a two-particle observable as a candidate witness for pairing correlations of both fermionic and bosonic systems. The corresponding separability bounds are also obtained. Two different types of separability definition are introduced for bosonic systems and the separability bounds associated with each type are discussed.

Entanglement and off-diagonal long-range order of an η-pairing state

Heng Fan, Seth Lloyd

Off-diagonal long-range order (ODLRO) which is believed to be one characteristic of superconductivity is a quantum phenomenon not describable in classical mechanical terms. The quantum state constructed by η-pairing demonstrates ODLRO. Entanglement is a key concept of the quantum information processing and has no classical counterpart. We study the entanglement property of the η-pairing quantum state by concurrence and entropy which are two measures of the entanglement. We show that the concurrence of entanglement between one-site and the rest sites is exactly the correlation function of the ODLRO for the η-pairing state in the thermodynamic limit. So, when the η-pairing state is entangled, it demonstrates ODLRO and is thus in the superconducting phase, if it is a separable state, there is no ODLRO. In the thermodynamical limit, the entanglement between the M -site and other sites of the η-pairing state does not vanish. Other types of ODLRO of the η-pairing state are presented. We show that the behaviour of the ODLRO correlation functions is equivalent to that of the entanglement of the η-pairing state. The scaling of the entropy of the entanglement for the η-pairing state is studied.

Entanglement witness via symmetric two-body correlations

Ernest Y.-Z. Tan, Dagomir Kaszlikowski, L. C. Kwek

We construct an entanglement witness for many-qubit systems, based on symmetric two-body correlations with two measurement settings. This witness is able to detect the entanglement of some Dicke states for any number of particles and such detection exhibits some robustness against white noise and thermal noise under the Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick Hamiltonian. In addition, it detects the entanglement of spin-squeezed states, with a detection strength that approaches the maximal value for sufficiently large numbers of particles. As spin-squeezed states can be experimentally generated, the properties of the witness with respect to these states may be amenable to experimental investigation. We show that while the witness is unable to detect Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) states, it is instead able to detect superpositions of Dicke states with GHZ states.
