An equivalence in random matrix and tensor models via a dually weighted intermediate field representation

Abstract

We present novel equivalences in random matrix and tensor models between complex and self-adjoint theories with nontrivial quadratic terms in the action, established through an intermediate field representation. More precisely, we show that the partition functions of certain self-adjoint models and their complex counterparts are different integral representations of the exact same function. A special case of these equivalences takes a form of newly found dually weighted intermediate field representations, which generalize the standard intermediate field representation. We also find indications of an equivalence between real tensor models and self-transpose tensor models.

Three Cases of Complex Eigenvalue/Vector Distributions of Symmetric Order-Three Random Tensors

Swastik Majumder, Naoki Sasakura

Abstract Random tensor models have applications in a variety of fields, such as quantum gravity, quantum information theory, mathematics of modern technologies, etc., and studying their statistical properties, e.g. tensor eigenvalue/vector distributions, is interesting and useful. Recently some tensor eigenvalue/vector distributions have been computed by expressing them as partition functions of 0D quantum field theories. In this paper, using this method, we compute three cases of complex eigenvalue/vector distributions of symmetric order-three random tensors, where the three cases can be characterized by the Lie-group invariances, $O(N,\mathbb {R})$, $O(N,\mathbb {C})$, and $U(N,\mathbb {C})$, respectively. Exact closed-form expressions of the distributions are obtained by computing partition functions of four-fermi theories, where the last case is of the “signed” distribution, which counts the distribution with a sign factor coming from a Hessian matrix. As an application, we compute the injective norm of the complex symmetric order-three random tensor in the large-N limit by computing the edge of the last signed distribution, obtaining agreement with an earlier numerical result in the literature.

Duality of orthogonal and symplectic random tensor models

Razvan Gurău, Hannes Keppler

The groups \mathrm{O}(N) and \mathrm{Sp}(N) are related by an analytic continuation to negative values of N , \mathrm{O}(-N)\simeq\mathrm{Sp}(N) . This duality has been studied for vector models, \mathrm{SO}(N) and \mathrm{Sp}(N) gauge theories, as well as some random matrix ensembles. We extend this duality to real random tensor models of arbitrary order D with no symmetry under permutation of the indices and with quartic interactions. The N to -N duality is shown to hold graph by graph to all orders in perturbation theory for the partition function, the free energy and the connected two-point function.

Real tensor eigenvalue/vector distributions of the Gaussian tensor model via a four-fermi theory

Naoki Sasakura

Abstract Eigenvalue distributions are important dynamic quantities in matrix models, and it is an interesting challenge to study corresponding quantities in tensor models. We study real tensor eigenvalue/vector distributions for real symmetric order-three random tensors with a Gaussian distribution as the simplest case. We first rewrite this problem as the computation of a partition function of a four-fermi theory with R replicated fermions. The partition function is exactly computed for some small-N,R cases, and is shown to precisely agree with Monte Carlo simulations. For large-N, it seems difficult to compute it exactly, and we apply an approximation using a self-consistency equation for two-point functions and obtain an analytic expression. It turns out that the real tensor eigenvalue distribution obtained by taking R = 1/2 is simply the Gaussian within this approximation. We compare the approximate expression with Monte Carlo simulations, and find that, if an extra overall factor depending on N is multiplied to the the expression, it agrees well with the Monte Carlo results. It is left for future study to improve the approximation for large-N to correctly derive the overall factor.

Tensor network formulation of 𝒫 𝒯 -symmetric quantum field theories

Yasuyuki Hatsuda, Kengo Kikuchi

We develop a non-perturbative analytic tensor network formulation of $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric scalar field theories defined on complex integration contours. Applying this formulation to the two-dimensional $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric $ϕ^4$ theory at negative quartic coupling, we derive an explicit analytic expression for the initial tensor and show that its components separate into even and odd sectors according to the parity of the sum of the tensor indices. We further formulate the theory on an alternative complex contour and analytically establish, in arbitrary dimensions, an exact finite-volume relation between the lattice partition function defined on this contour and the real part of the analytic continuation of the Hermitian lattice $ϕ^4$ partition function to negative quartic coupling.

k-Fold Gaussian Random Matrix Ensembles I: Forcing Structure into Random Matrices

Michael Brodskiy, Owen Lewis Howell

Random Matrix Theory is a powerful tool in applied mathematics. Three canonical models of random matrix distributions are the Gaussian Orthogonal, Unitary and Symplectic Ensembles. For matrix ensembles defined on k-fold tensor products of identical vector spaces we motivate natural generalizations of the Gaussian Ensemble family. We show how the k-fold invariant constraints are satisfied in both disordered spin models and systems with gauge symmetries, specifically quantum double models. We use Schur-Weyl duality to completely characterize the form of allowed Gaussian distributions satisfying k-fold invariant constraints. The eigenvalue distribution of our proposed ensembles is computed exactly using the Harish-Chandra integral method. For the 2-fold tensor product case, we show that the derived distribution couples eigenvalue spectrum to entanglement spectrum. Guided by representation theory, our work is a natural extension of the standard Gaussian random matrix ensembles.

On the equivalence between n-state spin and vertex models on the square lattice

Marcio Jose Martins

In this paper we investigate a correspondence among spin and vertex models with the same number of local states on the square lattice with toroidal boundary conditions. We argue that the partition functions of an arbitrary n -state spin model and of a certain specific n -state vertex model coincide for finite lattice sizes. The equivalent vertex model has n 3 non-null Boltzmann weights and their relationship with the edge weights of the spin model is explicitly presented. In particular, the Ising model in a magnetic field is mapped to an eight-vertex model whose weights configurations combine both even and odd number of incoming and outcoming arrows at a vertex. We have studied the Yang-Baxter algebra for such mixed eight-vertex model when the weights are invariant under arrows reversing. We find that while the Lax operator lie on the same elliptic curve of the even eight-vertex model the respective R-matrix can not be presented in terms of the difference of two rapidities. We also argue that the spin-vertex equivalence may be used to imbed an integrable spin model in the realm of the quantum inverse scattering framework. As an example, we show how to determine the R-matrix of the 27-vertex model equivalent to a three-state spin model devised by Fateev and Zamolodchikov.
