Long-Range Antiferromagnetic Order in the AKLT Model on Trees and Treelike Graphs

Abstract

We extend the result of Fannes, Nachtergaele, and Werner on long-range order in the AKLT model on Cayley trees to include various trees and tree-like graphs that obey certain conditions. Our examples split into three cases: Cayley-like tree-like graphs generated by a finite subgraph, for which we have a simple condition; arbitrary trees with a prescribed growth rate of their volume; and bilayer Cayley trees.

AKLT models with quantum spin glass ground states

Chris R. Laumann, S. A. Parameswaran, Shivaji L. Sondhi +1 more

We study AKLT models on locally treelike lattices of fixed connectivity and find that they exhibit a variety of ground states depending upon the spin, coordination, and global (graph) topology. We find (a) quantum paramagnetic or valence-bond solid ground states, (b) critical and ordered N\'eel states on bipartite infinite Cayley trees, and (c) critical and ordered quantum vector spin glass states on random graphs of fixed connectivity. We argue, in consonance with a previous analysis [C. R. Laumann, S. A. Parameswaran, and S. L. Sondhi, Phys. Rev. B 80, 144415 (2009)], that all phases are characterized by gaps to local excitations. The spin glass states we report arise from random long-ranged loops which frustrate N\'eel ordering despite the lack of randomness in the coupling strengths.

A density matrix renormalization group approach to interacting quantum systems on Cayley trees

Barry Friedman

I have examined the nearest-neighbour quantum Heisenberg model on a Cayley tree using a simple density matrix renormalization group scheme. For spin 1/2 on a three-legged Bethe lattice I find indications of long-range antiferromagnetic order in agreement with the spin wave result. Preliminary calculations using a more complicated density matrix renormalization group scheme give promise that one can treat interacting quantum systems on Cayley trees very accurately.

Long-Range Order in Antiferromagnetic Quantum Spin Systems

Yukiyasu Ozeki, Hidetoshi Nishimori, Yasuhiro Tomita

The existence of long-range order is proved under certain conditions for the antiferromagnetic XYZ model on the simple cubic or the square lattice. In particular, the spin-1/2 XXZ model on the square lattice is shown to have ground-state long-range order if the exchange anisotropy Δ satisfies 0≦ Δ <0.20 or Δ >1.72, which improves the result of Kubo and Kishi. The existence of long-range order of the z -component of the spin operator is proved for the XXZ model with XY -like anisotropy (0≦ Δ ≦1) under certain conditions. A similar result is shown to hold for the long-range order in the x -direction for the Ising-like model ( Δ ≧1). The XXZ model on the two-dimensional hexagonal lattice is proved to have finite ground-state long-range order for any value of Δ (≧0) if S ≧1 and for Δ >2.55 when S =1/2.

Order and disorder in AKLT antiferromagnets in three dimensions

S. A. Parameswaran, Shivaji L. Sondhi, Daniel P. Arovas

The models constructed by Affleck, Kennedy, Lieb, and Tasaki (AKLT) [Phys. Rev. Lett. 59, 799 (1987)] describe a family of quantum antiferromagnets on arbitrary lattices, where the local spin $S$ is an integer multiple $M$ of half the lattice coordination number. The equal-time quantum correlations in their ground states may be computed as finite temperature correlations of a classical $O(3)$ model on the same lattice, where the temperature is given by $T=1/M$. In dimensions $d=1$ and 2 this mapping implies that all AKLT states are quantum disordered. We consider AKLT states in $d=3$ where the nature of the AKLT states is now a question of detail depending upon the choice of lattice and spin; for sufficiently large $S$ some form of N\'eel order is almost inevitable. On the unfrustrated cubic lattice, we find that all AKLT states are ordered, while for the unfrustrated diamond lattice the minimal $S=2$ state is disordered while all other states are ordered. On the frustrated pyrochlore lattice, we find (conservatively) that several states starting with the minimal $S=3$ state are disordered. The disordered AKLT models we report here are a significant addition to the catalog of magnetic Hamiltonians in $d=3$ with ground states known to lack order on account of strong quantum fluctuations.

Order, Disorder, and Transitions in Decorated AKLT States on Bethe Lattices

Nicholas Pomata

Returning to one of the original generalizations of the AKLT state, we extend prior analysis on the Bethe lattice (or Cayley tree) to a variant with a series of $n$ spin-1 decorations placed on each edge. The recurrence relations derived for this system demonstrate that such systems are critical for coordination numbers $z=3^{n+1}$, demonstrating order for greater and disorder for lesser coordination number. We then generalize further, effectively interpolating between systems with different values of $n$, using two realizations, one isotropic under local $SU(2)$ transformations and one anisotropic. Exact analysis of these recurrence relations allows us to deduce the location and behavior of order-disorder phase transitions for $z>4$.

QUANTUM MARKOV CHAINS AND ISING MODEL ON CAYLEY TREE

Luigi Accardi, Farrukh Maksutovich Mukhamedov, Mansoor Khajibaevich Saburov

In the present paper wes tudy forward Quantum Markov Chains (QMC)associated with Ising model on Cayley tree of order k. Using the tree structure of graphs, we give a construction of Quantum Markov Chains on a Cayley tree. By means of such construction we prove the existance of a phase transition for the Ising model on a Cayley tree of order k in QMC scheme. By the phase transition we mean the existance of two not quasi equivelant QMC for the given family of interaction operators.
