Abstract

A bstract We propose explicit expressions for the boundary reflection matrices of the $${\mathcal{A}}_{m}+(r, s)$$ series of massive scattering theories, obtained by perturbing the $${\mathcal{A}}_{m}$$ unitary minimal models with ( r, s ) boundary conditions with both bulk and boundary ϕ 1 , 3 operators. We identify the vacua that live on the boundary with the allowed edges of the ( r, s ) conformal boundary conditions of the A m Andrews-Baxter-Forrester model. The boundary reflection matrices are then “direct sums” of certain pairs of A m− 1 Behrend-Pearce solutions of the boundary Yang-Baxter equation and are consistent with the boundary bootstrap and the recently-introduced crossing, as well as the Z 2 (height-reversal), Kac table and non-invertible symmetries.

Finite-volume spectra of the Lee-Yang model

Zoltán Bajnok, Omar El Deeb, Paul A. Pearce

We consider the non-unitary Lee-Yang minimal model $$ \mathrm{\mathcal{M}}\left(2,\;5\right) $$ in three different finite geometries: (i) on the interval with integrable boundary conditions labelled by the Kac labels (r, s) = (1, 1), (1, 2), (ii) on the circle with periodic boundary conditions and (iii) on the periodic circle including an integrable purely transmitting defect. We apply φ1,3 integrable perturbations on the boundary and on the defect and describe the flow of the spectrum. Adding a Φ1,3 integrable perturbation to move off-criticality in the bulk, we determine the finite size spectrum of the massive scattering theory in the three geometries via Thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz (TBA) equations. We derive these integral equations for all excitations by solving, in the continuum scaling limit, the TBA functional equations satisfied by the transfer matrices of the associated A4 RSOS lattice model of Forrester and Baxter in Regime III. The excitations are classified in terms of (m, n) systems. The excited state TBA equations agree with the previously conjectured equations in the boundary and periodic cases. In the defect case, new TBA equations confirm previously conjectured transmission factors.

Complete non-diagonal reflection matrices of RSOS/SOS and hard hexagon models

Changrim Ahn, Choong-Ki You

In this paper we compute the most general non-diagonal reflection matrices of the RSOS/SOS models and the hard hexagon model using the boundary Yang-Baxter equations. We find a new one-parameter family of the reflection matrices for the RSOS model in addition to the previous result obtained in Ahn C and Koo W M 1996 Nucl. Phys. B 468 [FS] 461. We also find three classes of the reflection matrices for the SOS model, which has one or two free parameters. For the hard-hexagon model which can be mapped to the RSOS(5) model by folding four RSOS heights into two, the solutions can be obtained similarly with a main difference in the boundary unitarity conditions. Due to this, the reflection matrices can have two free parameters. We show that these extra terms can be identified with the `decorated' solutions. We also generalize the hard hexagon model by `folding' the RSOS heights of the general RSOS( p ) model and show that they satisfy the integrability conditions such as the Yang-Baxter and boundary Yang-Baxter equations. These models can be solved using the results for the RSOS models.

Perturbative and non-perturbative studies in low dimensional quantum field theory

Anna Lishman

A relevant perturbation of a conformal field theory (CFT) on the half-plane, by both a bulk and boundary operator, often leads to a massive theory with a particle description in terms of the bulk S-matrix and boundary reflection factor R. The link between the particle basis and the CFT in the bulk is usually made with the thermodynamic Bethe ansatz effective central charge C(_eff). This allows a conjectured S-matrix to be identified with a specific perturbed CFT. Less is known about the links between the reflection factors and conformal boundary conditions, but it has been proposed that an exact, off-critical version of Affleck and Ludwig's g-function could be used, analogously to C(_eff), to identify the physically realised reflection factors and to match them with the corresponding boundary conditions. In the first part of this thesis, this exact g-function is tested for the purely elastic scattering theories related to the ADET Lie algebras. Minimal reflection factors are given, and a method to incorporate a boundary parameter is proposed. This enables the prediction of several new flows between conformal boundary conditions to be made. The second part of this thesis concerns the three-parameter family of PT-symmetric Hamiltonians H(M,o,1) = p(^2) – (ix) (^2M) – α(ix) The positions where the eigenvalues merge and become complex correspond to quadratic and cubic exceptional points. The quasi-exact solvability of the models for M = 3 is exploited to exploreaway from M = 3 is investigated using both numerical and perturbative approaches.

Boundary scattering and non-invertible symmetries in 1 + 1 dimensions

Soichiro Shimamori, Satoshi Yamaguchi

A bstract Recent studies by Copetti, Córdova and Komatsu have revealed that when non-invertible symmetries are spontaneously broken, the conventional crossing relation of the S-matrix is modified by the effects of the corresponding topological quantum field theory (TQFT). In this paper, we extend these considerations to (1 + 1)-dimensional quantum field theories (QFTs) with boundaries. In the presence of a boundary, one can define not only the bulk S-matrix but also the boundary S-matrix, which is subject to a consistency condition known as the boundary crossing relation. We show that when the boundary is weakly-symmetric under the non-invertible symmetry, the conventional boundary crossing relation also receives a modification due to the TQFT effects. As a concrete example of the boundary scattering, we analyze kink scattering in the gapped theory obtained from the Φ (1,3) -deformation of a minimal model. We explicitly construct the boundary S-matrix that satisfies the Ward-Takahashi identities associated with non-invertible symmetries.

The R-matrix bootstrap for the 2d O(N) bosonic model with a boundary

Martı́n Kruczenski

The S-matrix bootstrap is extended to a 1+1d theory with O(N) symmetry and a boundary in what we call the R-matrix bootstrap since the quantity of interest is the reflection matrix (R-matrix). Given a bulk S-matrix, the space of allowed R-matrices is an infinite dimensional convex space from which we plot a two dimensional section given by a convex domain on a 2d plane. In certain cases, at the boundary of the domain, we find vertices corresponding to integrable R-matrices with no free parameters. In other cases, when there is a one-parameter family of integrable R-matrices, the whole boundary represents integrable theories. We also consider R-matrices which are analytic in an extended region beyond the physical cuts, thus forbidding poles (resonances) in that region. In certain models, this drastically reduces the allowed space of R-matrices leading to new vertices that again correspond to integrable theories. We also work out the dual problem, in particular in the case of extended analyticity, the dual function has cuts on the physical line whenever unitarity is saturated. For the periodic Yang-Baxter solution that has zero transmission, we computed the R-matrix initially using the bootstrap and then derived its previously unknown analytic form.

Logarithmic minimal models with Robin boundary conditions

Jean-Emile Bourgine, Paul A Pearce, Elena Tartaglia

Abstract We consider general logarithmic minimal models L M ( p , p ′ ) , with p , p ′ coprime, on a strip of N columns with the ( r , s ) Robin boundary conditions introduced by Pearce, Rasmussen and Tipunin. On the lattice, these models are Yang–Baxter integrable loop models that are described algebraically by the one-boundary Temperley–Lieb algebra. The ( r , s ) Robin boundary conditions are a class of integrable boundary conditions satisfying the boundary Yang–Baxter equations which allow loop segments to either reflect or terminate on the boundary. The associated conformal boundary conditions are organized into infinitely extended Kac tables labelled by the Kac labels r ∈ Z and s ∈ N . The Robin vacuum boundary condition, labelled by ( r , s − 1 2 ) = ( 0 , 1 2 ) , is given as a linear combination of Neumann and Dirichlet boundary conditions. The general ( r , s ) Robin boundary conditions are constructed, using fusion, by acting on the Robin vacuum boundary with an ( r , s )-type seam consisting of an r -type seam of width w columns and an s -type seam of width d = s − 1 columns. The r -type seam admits an arbitrary boundary field which we fix to the special value ξ = − λ 2 where λ = ( p ′ − p ) π <m
