Abstract

The theory of multiresonator quantum memory with atomic ensembles has been developed. Using the obtained analytical solutions, the basic physical properties of such memory are analyzed and optimal conditions for its implementation are determined. Advantages of this quantum memory and its experimental implementation in integrated optical schemes are discussed.

Quantum memory based on a system of resonators each containing one atom and connected to an external waveguide through a common resonator has been proposed. The parameters of the resonators and atoms interacting with them at which the effective transfer of a single-photon signal wave packet from the external waveguide to atomic states for long-term storage of the quantum state of the photon have been determined using reversible properties of the dynamics of the system under study and optimization methods. We develop an integrated efficient multiresonator quantum memory scheme based on a system of three interacting resonators coupled through a common resonator to an external waveguide via switchable coupler. It is shown that high-precision parameter matching based on step-by-step optimization makes it possible to efficiently store the signal field and enables on-demand retrieval of the signal at specified time moments. Possible experimental implementations and practical applications of the proposed quantum memory scheme are discussed.

Multiresonator Quantum Memory with Switcher

Sergey A. Moiseev, Nikolay Sergeevich Perminov

A scheme of multiresonator quantum memory based on a system of four interacting resonators connected through a common resonator to an external carrier by means of switchable coupling has been studied. The parameters of the resonators and the frequency spectrum of the system under study have been optimized using algebraic methods. It has been shown that these parameters allow efficient controlled reversible transfer of information into quantum memory with arbitrarily long storage. Possible applications of the developed scheme for quantum processing have been discussed.

We study spectral properties of a cascaded multiresonator microwave quantum memory integrated into a waveguide-resonator system. Photon echo quantum random access memory integration in a quantum computer

Sergey A. Moiseev, Sergey N. Andrianov

We have analyzed an efficient integration of the multi-qubit echo quantum memory into the quantum computer scheme on the atomic resonant ensembles in quantum electrodynamics cavity. Here, one atomic ensemble with controllable inhomogeneous broadening is used for the quantum memory node and other atomic ensembles characterized by the homogeneous broadening of the resonant line are used as processing nodes. We have found optimal conditions for efficient integration of multi-qubit quantum memory modified for this analyzed physical scheme and we have determined a specified shape of the self temporal modes providing a perfect reversible transfer of the photon qubits between the quantum memory node and arbitrary processing nodes. The obtained results open the way for realization of full-scale solid state quantum computing based on using the efficient multi-qubit quantum memory.

Three-dimensional theory of quantum memories based on Λ -type atomic ensembles

Emil Zeuthen, Anna Grodecka-Grad, Anders Søndberg Sørensen

We develop a three-dimensional theory for quantum memories based on light storage in ensembles of $\ensuremath{\Lambda}$-type atoms, where two long-lived atomic ground states are employed. We consider light storage in an ensemble of finite spatial extent and we show that within the paraxial approximation the Fresnel number of the atomic ensemble and the optical depth are the only important physical parameters determining the quality of the quantum memory. We analyze the influence of these parameters on the storage of light followed by either forward or backward read-out from the quantum memory. We show that for small Fresnel numbers the forward memory provides higher efficiencies, whereas for large Fresnel numbers the backward memory is advantageous. The optimal light modes to store in the memory are presented together with the corresponding spin waves and outcoming light modes. We show that for high optical depths such $\ensuremath{\Lambda}$-type atomic ensembles allow for highly efficient backward and forward memories even for small Fresnel numbers $F\ensuremath{\gtrsim}0.1$.
