Abstract

We study the integrability of the quantized six-vertex model with four parameters on a torus. It is a three-dimensional integrable lattice model in which a layer transfer matrix, depending on two spectral parameters associated with the homology cycles of the torus, can be defined not only on the square lattice but also on more general graphs. For a class of graphs that we call admissible, we establish the commutativity of the layer transfer matrices by introducing four types of tetrahedron equations and two types of inversion relations. Expanding in the spectral parameters yields a family of commuting quantum Hamiltonians. The quantized six-vertex model can also be reformulated in terms of (quantized) dimer models, and encompasses known integrable systems as special cases, including the free parafermion model and the relativistic Toda chain.

Quantized six-vertex model at roots of unity: Frobenius property and free-parafermion spectra

Rei Inoue, Atsuo Kuniba, Yuji Terashima +1 more

We study the quantized six-vertex (Q6V) model on arbitrary admissible diagrams at $q=\varepsilon$, where $\varepsilon$ is a primitive $N$th root of unity with $N$ odd. For the commuting layer transfer matrices $\mathbb{T}(y)$ with mixed boundary conditions, we establish the quantum Frobenius property \[ \mathbb{T}(y)\mathbb{T}(\varepsilon y)\cdots \mathbb{T}(\varepsilon^{N-1}y) = \mathscr{P}_N(y^N)\mathbb{I}, \] where $\mathscr{P}_N$ is a scalar Laurent polynomial obtained directly from the monomial expansion of $\mathbb{T}(y)$. Our proof exploits the underlying three-dimensional integrability, in particular the tetrahedron equations and their consequences. The quantum Frobenius relation essentially determines the joint eigenvalues of the associated Hamiltonians up to multiplicities and shows that they take a free-parafermion form, thereby extending such structures from previously known one-dimensional examples to a broad class of genuinely two-dimensional quantized six-vertex models. The construction also admits independent local gauge choices and recovers the long-range-interacting $τ_{\; 2}$ model, which includes the original free-parafermion model as a special case. We also apply the same framework to the relativistic quantum Toda chain at odd roots of unity and obtain the free-parafermion spectra for the relevant Q6V transfer matrices with fixed boundary states.

General Square Lattice Vertex Models

Hans-Peter Eckle

Abstract Vertex models more general than the ice model are possible and often have physical applications. The square lattice admits the general sixteen-vertex model of which the special cases, the eight- and the six-vertex model, are the most relevant and physically interesting, in particular through their connection to the one-dimensional integrable quantum mechanical models and the Bethe ansatz. This chapter introduces power- ful tools to examine vertex models, including the R- and L-matrices to encode the Boltzmann vertex weights and the monodromy and transfer matrices, which encode the integrability of the vertex models (i.e. that transfer matrices of different spectral parameters commute). This integrability is ultimately expressed in the Yang–Baxter relations.

New series of 3D lattice integrable models

Mangazeev, V V, Sergeev, S M, Stroganov, Yu G

In this paper we present a new series of three-dimensional integrable lattice models with N colors. The case N=2 generalizes the elliptic model of Ref. 8. The weight functions of the models satisfy modified tetrahedron equations with N states and give a commuting family of two-layer transfer matrices. The dependence on the spectral parameters corresponds to the static limit of the modified tetrahedron equations, and weights are parametrized in terms of elliptic functions. The models contain two free parameters: elliptic modulus and additional parameter η. Also, we briefly discuss symmetry properties of weight functions of the models.

Six-Vertex Model

Hans-Peter Eckle

Abstract This chapter considers the special case of the six-vertex model on a square lattice using a trigonometric parameterization of the vertex weights. It demonstrates how, by exploiting the Yang-Baxter relations, the six-vertex model is diagonalized and the Bethe ansatz equations are derived. The Hamiltonian of the Heisenberg quantum spin chain is obtained from the transfer matrix for a special value of the spectral parameter together with an infinite set of further conserved quantum operators. By the diagonalization of the transfer matrix the exact solution of the one-dimensional quantum spin chain Hamiltonian has automatically also been obtained, which is given by the same Bethe ansatz equations.

Quantized six-vertex realizations of frustration graphs

Atsuo Kuniba, Souta Oikawa

A recent graph-theoretic criterion for a Hamiltonian to exhibit a free-parafermion spectrum is that its frustration graph be an indifference graph. We show that an arbitrary finite indifference graph can be realized as a frustration graph of the quantized six-vertex model at odd roots of unity, by a suitable choice of the defining wiring diagram and parameters. This provides a concrete realization of the criterion through the quantum Frobenius property of the quantized six-vertex model, recently established from its three-dimensional integrable structure.

We study the quantized six-vertex (Q6V) model on arbitrary admissible diagrams at q=εq=\varepsilonq=ε, where ε\varepsilonε is a primitive NNNth root of unity with NNN odd. For the commuting layer transfer matrices T(y)\mathbb{T}(y)T(y) with mixed boundary conditions, we establish the quantum Frobenius property T(y)T(εy)⋯T(εN−1y)=PN(yN)I, \mathbb{T}(y)\mathbb{T}(\varepsilon y)\cdots \mathbb{T}(\varepsilon^{N-1}y) = \mathscr{P}_N(y^N)\mathbb{I}, T(y)T(εy)⋯T(εN−1y)=PN(yN)I, where PN\mathscr{P}_NPN is a scalar Laurent polynomial obtained directly from the monomial expansion of T(y)\mathbb{T}(y)T(y).
