Abstract

This work presents a method for achieving complete, robust, and efficient population transfer between the two ground states in a three-level loop quantum system. The approach utilizes composite pulse sequences by effectively mapping the three-state system onto an equivalent two-level system. This transformation allows the use of broadband composite pulses designed initially for conventional two-state quantum systems. Unlike traditional implementations, the composite pulses in the three-level system are not controlled through phase adjustments; instead, they are realized via the amplitude ratio of the Rabi frequencies.

Composite pulses for optimal robust control in two-level systems

Hai-Ning Wu, Cheng Zhang, Jie Song +2 more

In this work, we put forward an approach of constructing the optimal composite pulse sequence for robust population transfer in two-level systems. This approach is quite universal and applicable to a variety of systems, because the modulation parameters of composite pulses are obtained by minimizing the homemade cost function rather than nullifying the error coefficients of the transition probability. Specifically, we design different forms of the cost function for implementing optimal robustness with respect to the single or multiple errors. When slightly adjusting the constraints of the cost function, this approach can be easily extended to achieve arbitrary population transfer. The numerical results demonstrate that the optimized sequences are immune from various systematic errors, allowing us to produce a broadening excitation range of the transition probability. Therefore, this work offers an optimal robust design for controlling quantum states in error-prone environments.

Composite pulses for high fidelity population transfer in three-level systems

Zhi‐Cheng Shi, Cheng Zhang, Du Ran +5 more

Abstract In this work, we propose a composite pulses (CPs) scheme by modulating phases to achieve high fidelity population transfer in three-level systems. To circumvent the obstacle that not enough variables are exploited to eliminate the systematic errors in the transition probability, we put forward a cost function to find the optimal value. The cost function is independently constructed either in ensuring an accurate population of the target state, or in suppressing the population of the leakage state, or both of them. The results demonstrate that population transfer is implemented with high fidelity even when existing the deviations in the coupling coefficients. Furthermore, our CPs scheme can be extensible to arbitrarily long pulse sequences. As an example, we employ the CPs sequence for achieving the three-atom singlet state in an atom-cavity system with ultrahigh fidelity. The final singlet state shows robustness against deviations and is not seriously affected by waveform distortions. Also, the singlet state maintains a high fidelity under the decoherence environment.

Robust high-fidelity coherent control of two-state systems by detuning pulses

Boyan T. Torosov, Nikolay V. Vitanov

Coherent control of two-state systems is traditionally achieved by resonant pulses of specific Rabi frequency and duration, by adiabatic techniques using level crossings or delayed pulses, or by sequences of pulses with precise relative phases (composite pulses). Here we develop a method for high-fidelity coherent control which uses a sequence of detuning pulses. By using the detuning pulse areas as control parameters, and driving on an analogy with composite pulses, we report a great variety of detuning pulse sequences for broadband and narrow-band transition probability profiles.

Robust single-qubit gates by composite pulses in three-level systems

Zhi‐Cheng Shi, Hai-Ning Wu, Li-Tuo Shen +4 more

Composite pulses are an efficient tool for robust quantum control. In this work, we derive the form of the composite pulse sequence to implement robust single-qubit gates in a three-level system, where two low-energy levels act as a qubit. The composite pulses can efficiently cancel the systematic errors up to a certain order. We find that the three-pulse sequence cannot completely eliminate the first order of systematic errors, but still availably makes the fidelity resistant to variations in a specific direction. When employing more pulses in the sequence ($N>3$), the fidelity can be insensitive to the variations in all directions and the robustness region becomes much wider. Finally we demonstrate the applications of composite pulses in quantum information processing, e.g., robust quantum information transfer between two qubits.

Detuning-modulated composite pulses for high-fidelity robust quantum control

Elica S. Kyoseva, Hadar Greener, Haim Suchowski

We introduce a control method for off-resonant robust quantum information processing suited for quantum integrated photonics. We utilize detunings as control parameters to derive a family of composite pulses for high-fidelity complete population transfer. The presented detuning-modulated composite sequences can be implemented within the decay lifetime of the qubit and correct for control inaccuracies in various parameters including pulse strength, duration, detuning, phase jitter, Stark shift, and unwanted frequency chirps. We implement the proposed robust sequences in an integrated photonics platform to achieve complete light transfer insensitive to fabrication errors.

Robust coherent control in three-level quantum systems using composite pulses

Hang Xu, Xue-Ke Song, Dong Wang +1 more

Here, we focus on using composite pulses to realize high-robustness and high-fidelity coherent control in three-level quantum systems. We design the dynamic parameters (Rabi frequency and detuning) for three-level Hamiltonians for high-fidelity quantum state control using five well-known coherent control techniques including a composite adiabatic passage (CAP). Furthermore, we compare their performance against the Rabi frequency and systematic errors, and accordingly show that the CAP is the most robust against them. It features a broad range of high efficiencies above 99.9%. Thus, it provides an accurate approach for manipulating the evolution of quantum states in three-level quantum systems.
