Robustness of entanglement

Guifré Vidal, R. Tarrach

In the quest to completely describe entanglement in the general case of a finite number of parties sharing a physical system of finite-dimensional Hilbert space an entanglement magnitude is introduced for its pure and mixed states: robustness. It corresponds to the minimal amount of mixing with locally prepared states which washes out all entanglement. It quantifies in a sense the endurance of entanglement against noise and jamming. Its properties are studied comprehensively. Analytical expressions for the robustness are given for pure states of two-party systems, and analytical bounds for mixed states of two-party systems. Specific results are obtained mainly for the qubit-qubit system (qubit denotes quantum bit). As by-products local pseudomixtures are generalized, a lower bound for the relative volume of separable states is deduced, and arguments for considering convexity a necessary condition of any entanglement measure are put forward.

Generalizing multipartite concentratable entanglement for practical applications: mixed, qudit and optical states

Steph Foulds, Oliver Prove, Viv M. Kendon

The controlled SWAP test for detecting and quantifying entanglement applied to pure qubit states is robust to small errors in the states and efficient for large multi-qubit states (Foulds et al . 2021 Quantum Sci. Technol . 6 , 035002 (doi: 10.1088/2058-9565/abe458 )). We extend this, and the related measure concentratable entanglement (CE), to enable important practical applications in quantum information processing. We investigate the lower bound of concentratable entanglement given in (Beckey et al . 2023 Phys. Rev. A 107 , 062425 (doi: 10.1103/physreva.107.062425 )) and conjecture an upper bound of the mixed-state concentratable entanglement that is robust to c-SWAP test errors. Since experimental states are always slightly mixed, our work makes the c-SWAP test and CE measure suitable for application in experiments to characterize entanglement. We further present the CE of some key higher-dimensional states such as qudit states and entangled optical states to validate the CE as a higher-dimensional measure of entanglement. Derivation of the robustness from the concurrence

Yuri Krynytskyi, Andrij Romanovych Kuzmak

Adding the maximally mixed state with some weight to the entanglement system leads to disentanglement of the latter. For each predefined entangled state there exists a minimal value of this weight for which the system loses its entanglement properties. These values were proposed to be used as a quantitative measure of entanglement called robustness [G. Vidal and R. Tarrach, Phys. Rev. A 59, 141 (1999)]. Using the concurrence, we propose the derivation of this measure for the system of two-qubit. Namely, for a two-qubit pure state, an exact expression of robustness is obtained. Finally, in the same way, the robustness of special cases of mixed two-qubit states is calculated.
