Nonlocal coherent states in an infinite array of boson sites

Abstract

A regular coherent state (CS) is a special type of quantum state for boson particles placed in a single site. The defining feature of the CS is that it is an eigenmode of the annihilation operator. The construction easily generalizes to the case of a finite number of sites. However, the challenge is altogether different when one considers an infinite array of sites. In this work we demonstrate a mathematically rigorous construction that resolves the latter case. The resulting nonlocal coherent states (NCS) are simultaneous eigenmodes for all of the infinitely many annihilation operators acting in the infinite array’s Fock space. Our construction fundamentally relies on Dirichlet series-based analysis and number theoretic arguments.

Macroscopically distinguishable superposition in infinitely many degrees of freedom

J. Fransson, B. C. Sanders, A. P. Sowa

We investigate the concept of macroscopically distinguishable superpositions within an infinite array of boson sites. Our approach is rigorous within the frame of Hilbert space theory. In this context, it is natural to differentiate between states -- and corresponding dynamics -- that involve only finitely many degrees of freedom, referred to as local, and those that are inherently nonlocal. Previous studies have shown that such systems can support nonlocal coherent states (NCS). In this work, we demonstrate that NCS can dynamically evolve into nonlocal cat states under the influence of a nonlocal Hamiltonian -- specifically, the square of the total number operator. Crucially, the resulting dynamics cannot be decomposed into local factors. Furthermore, we explore broader mathematical implications of these phenomena within the framework of generalized bosons. Our findings highlight that the concepts of coherent states and nonlocal cat states are not inherently bound together; rather, their fusion is a distinctive feature of standard bosons. Finally, we propose that if the generalized boson framework can be physically realized in engineered quantum systems, the phenomena described here may hold significant relevance for both physics and materials science.

Pseudo-Boson Coherent and Fock States

D. A. Trifonov

Coherent states (CS) for non-Hermitian systems are introduced as eigenstates of pseudo-Hermitian boson annihilation operators. The set of these CS includes two subsets which form bi-normalized and bi-overcomplete system of states. The subsets consist of eigenstates of two complementary lowering pseudo-Hermitian boson operators. Explicit constructions are provided on the example of one-parameter family of pseudo-boson ladder operators. The wave functions of the eigenstates of the two complementary number operators, which form a bi-orthonormal system of Fock states, are found to be proportional to new polynomials, that are bi-orthogonal and can be regarded as a generalization of standard Hermite polynomials.

Coherent states for equally spaced, homogeneous waveguide arrays

J A Guerrero, H. M. Moya-Cessa

Coherent states for equally spaced, homogeneous waveguide arrays are defined, in the infinite, semiinfinite and finite cases, and resolutions of the identity are constructed, using different methods. In the infinite case, which corresponds to Euclidean coherent states, a resolution of the identity with coherent states on the circle and involving a nonlocal inner product is reviewed. In the semiinfinite case, which corresponds to London coherent states, various construction are given (restricting to the circle with a non-local scalar product, rescaling the coherent states, modifying them, or using a non-tight frame). In the finite case, a construction in terms of coherent states on the circle is given, and this construction is shown to be a regularization of the infinite and semiinfinite cases.

Coherent States in a Problem with Infinitely Multiple Spectrum

V. M. Chetverikov, I. V. Mamsurov

The solutions of the Schrodinger (Schrodinger – Pauli) equations and the Dirac equation in the 2+1 space for the two-dimensional motion of a charged particle in a uniform and constant magnetic field, as well as the construction of coherent states based on the solutions obtained are considered. A specific feature of this problem is the presence of a discrete spectrum with infinite multiplicity of degeneracy. Two pairs of creation and annihilation operators allow one to construct coherent states which are a special superposition of the states of two oscillators. The influence of the multiplicity of the spectrum on the average values of coordinates and momenta due to the appearance of two pairs of creation and annihilation operators is shown. The constructed coherent states depending on two complex numbers lead to two independent Poisson distributions for two types of vibration quanta. The introduced operators allow one to represent the solutions of the Dirac equation in the 2+1 space for the discrete spectrum problem under consideration in a simple form.

Pegg–Barnett coherent states

I. Ramos-Prieto, Luis A Andrade-Morales, Francisco Soto +1 more

In this paper, we show that the Pegg–Barnett formalism accepts coherent states constructed as eigenstates of the annihilation operator, considering both the number and the phase. These operators are defined within a ( s + 1 ) -dimensional Hilbert space H s and with periodic conditions. The coherent states that we find are determined by the eigenvalue of the annihilation operator, which leads to a discrete spectrum. This approach allows calculation of the discrete-finite counterpart of the Wigner function in a phase space defined by the variables of number and phase.
