We propose a universal approach to compute the Renyi entropy with generically multiple disjoint intervals from the swapping operations. The proposal is grounded in our observation that there is a striking similarity between the replica trick utilized in quantum field theory and the process of swapping operations. Consequently, the Renyi entropy of multiple disjoint intervals can be obtained by evaluating the expectation values of the swapping operator. As an application, we use our proposal to study the Renyi entropy of a one-dimensional transverse-field Ising model with two, three and four disjoint intervals. In particular, as the system is at the critical point, our results of the Renyi entropy are consistent with the analytical results from the conformal field theory. Remarkably, our approach can go beyond the critical regime where the analytical methods from conformal field theory can not apply.

Renyi entropy with multiple disjoint intervals are computed from the improved swapping operations by two methods: One is from the direct diagonalization of the Hamiltonian and the other one is from the state-of-the-art machine learning method with neural networks. We use the paradigmatic transverse-field Ising model in one dimension to demonstrate the strategy of the improved swapping operation. In particular, we study the second Renyi entropy with two, three, and four disjoint intervals. We find that the results from the above two methods match each other very well within errors, which indicates that the machine learning method is applicable for calculating the Renyi entropy with multiple disjoint intervals. Moreover, as the magnetic field increases, the Renyi entropy grows as well until the system arrives at the critical point of the phase transition. However, as the magnetic field exceeds the critical value, the Renyi entropy will decrease since the system enters the paramagnetic phase. Overall, these results match the theoretical predictions very well and demonstrate the high accuracy of the machine learning methods with neural networks.

Abstract We calculate the N interval replicated negativity for the Ising conformal field theory using correlation functions of branch point twist fields. For some subset P ⊂ N , this is a calculation of Tr ( ρ A T P ) n where n is the replica index. This can be reformulated as a calculation of partition functions over superelliptic Riemann surfaces, and for the models in question, this partition function can be expressed in terms of the period matrix of this surface. We detail how to construct the period matrices for these surfaces, giving an analytic expression for Tr ( ρ A T P ) n . The results are expressed such that when P = Ø, which corresponds to calculating the Rényi entropy, the formulas aligns with known results for the N interval Rényi entropy.
We compute the Renyi entropy in a one-dimensional transverse-field quantum Ising model by employing a swapping operator acting on the states which are prepared from the neural network methods. In the static ground state, Renyi entropy can uncover the critical point of the quantum phase transition from paramagnetic to ferromagnetic. At the critical point, the relation between the Renyi entropy and the subsystem size satisfies the predictions from conformal field theory. In the dynamical case, we find coherent oscillations of the Renyi entropy after the end of the linear quench. These oscillations have universal frequencies which may come from the superpositions of excited states. The asymptotic form of the Renyi entropy implies a new length scale away from the critical point. This length scale is also verified by the overlap of the reduced Renyi entropy against the dimensionless subsystem size.
Entanglement entropy (EE) is a quantitative measure of the effective degrees of freedom and the correlation between the sub-systems of a physical system. Using the replica trick, we can obtain the EE by evaluating the entanglement Renyi entropy (ERE). The ERE is a q-analogue of the EE and expressed by the q replicated partition function. In the semi-classical approximation, it is apparently easy to calculate the EE because the classical action represents the partition function by the saddle point approximation and we do not need to perform the path integral for the evaluation of the partition function. In previous studies, it has been assumed that only the minimal-valued saddle point contributes to the EE. In this paper, we propose that all the saddle points contribute comparably but not necessarily equally to the EE by dealing carefully with the semi-classical limit and then the q→1 limit. For example, we numerically evaluate the ERE of two disjoint intervals for the large c Liouville field theory with q∼1. We exploit the BPZ equation with the four twist operators, whose solution is given by the Heun function. We determine the ERE by tuning the behavior of the Heun function such that it becomes consistent with the geometry of the replica manifold. We find the same two saddle points as previous studies for q∼1 in the above system. Then, we provide the ERE for the large but finite c and the q∼1 in case that all the saddle points contribute comparably to the ERE. In particular, the ERE is the summation of these two saddle points by the same weight, due to the symmetry of the system. Based on this work, it shall be of interest to reconsider EE in other semi-classical physical systems with multiple saddle points.
We introduce a nonperturbative approach to calculate the Rényi entropy of a single interval on the torus for single-character (meromorphic) conformal field theories. Our prescription uses the Wrońskian method of Mathur, Mukhi, and Sen [], in which we construct differential equations for torus conformal blocks of the twist two-point function. As an illustrative example, we provide a detailed calculation of the second Rényi entropy for the E 8 , 1 Wess-Zumino-Witten (WZW) model. We find that the Z 2 cyclic orbifold of a meromorphic conformal field theory (CFT) results in a four-character CFT, which realizes the toric code modular tensor category. The Z 2 cyclic orbifold of the E 8 , 1 WZW model, however, yields a three-character CFT since two of the characters coincide. We then compute the torus conformal blocks and find that the twist two-point function, and therefore the Rényi entropy, is two-periodic along each cycle of the torus. The second Rényi entropy for a single interval of the E 8 , 1 WZW model has the universal logarithmic divergent behavior in the decompactification limit of the torus, as expected as well as the interval approaches the size of the cycle of the torus. Furthermore, we see that the q -expansion is UV finite, apart from the leading universal logarithmic divergence. We also find that there is a divergence as the size of the entangling interval approaches the cycle of the torus, suggesting that gluing two tori along an interval the size of a cycle is a singular limit.
