Conserved charges of series of solvable lattice models

Abstract

An infinite number of solvable Hamiltonians, including the transverse Ising chain, the XY chain with an external field, the cluster model with next-nearest-neighbor x - x interactions, or with next-nearest-neighbor z - z interactions, and other solvable models that can be mapped to the free fermion system are considered. All the conserved charges of these models written by the string-type products of the interactions are obtained. In the case of the transverse Ising chain, all the known charges are rederived, and in the case of the other models, new conserved charges are obtained.

Infinite number of solvable generalizations of XY-chain, with cluster state, and with central charge c=m/2

Kazuhiko Minami

An infinite number of spin chains are solved and it is derived that the ground-state phase transitions belong to the universality classes with central charge c = m / 2 , where m is an integer. The models are diagonalized by automatically obtained transformations, many of which are different from the Jordan–Wigner transformation. The free energies, correlation functions, string order parameters, exponents, central charges, and the phase diagram are obtained. Most of the examples consist of the stabilizers of the cluster state. A unified structure of the one-dimensional XY and cluster-type spin chains is revealed, and other series of solvable models can be obtained through this formula.

Solving models with generalized free fermions II: Path-product expansion and conserved charges

Kohei Fukai, Balázs Pozsgay, István Vona

Free-fermion solvability in quantum spin systems is increasingly understood to be governed by a graph Clifford algebra defined from the frustration graph of the Hamiltonian. When the frustration graph belongs to certain classes, such as the even-hole-free and claw-free (ECF) class, the Hamiltonian is solvable by hidden free fermions: it admits a free-fermion solution although it does not reduce to a Majorana bilinear under the Jordan-Wigner transformation. However, unlike in the Jordan-Wigner case, where each mode is a linear combination of single Majorana fermions, the explicit operator structure of the hidden free-fermion modes---and that of the local conserved charges---has remained obscure. In this work, we derive a path-product expansion that expresses each free-fermion mode as a linear combination of products along induced paths in the extended frustration graph. The expansion follows from the Krylov generating function and yields the modes directly, without using the transfer matrix or nonlocal conserved charges; the resulting mode decomposition also computes infinite-temperature dynamical correlation functions. We further obtain explicit expressions for local conserved charges as linear combinations of path products along induced paths; these charges apply beyond the free-fermion (ECF) class to more general claw-free frustration graphs. We also identify a family of generalized conserved charges containing both the known nonlocal conserved charges and these local charges. For the homogeneous periodic Fendley model, the local conserved charges exhibit the same Catalan-tree pattern as those of the spin-$1/2$ XXX chain.

Solvable Hamiltonians and Fermionization Transformations Obtained from Operators Satisfying Specific Commutation Relations

Kazuhiko Minami

It is shown that a solvable Hamiltonian can be obtained from a series of operators satisfying specific commutation relations. A transformation that diagonalize the Hamiltonian is obtained simultaneously. The two-dimensional Ising model with periodic interactions, the one-dimensional XY model with period 2, the transverse Ising chain, the one-dimensional Kitaev model and the cluster model, and other composite quantum spin chains are diagonalized following this procedure. The Jordan–Wigner transformation, the transformation from the Pauli spin operators to the Majorana fermion used by Shankar and Murthy, and the transformation introduced by Nambu, are special cases of this treatment.

Geometric criterion for solvability of lattice spin systems

Masahiro Ogura, Yukihisa Imamura, Naruhiko Kameyama +2 more

We present a simple criterion for solvability of lattice spin systems on the basis of graph theory and simplicial homology. The lattice systems satisfy algebras with graphical representations. It is shown that the null spaces of adjacency matrices of the graphs provide conserved quantities of the systems. Furthermore, when the graphs belong to a class of simplicial complexes, the Hamiltonians are found to be mapped to bilinear forms of Majorana fermions, from which the full spectra of the systems are obtained. In the latter situation, we find a relation between conserved quantities and the first homology group of the graph, and the relation enables us to interpret the conserved quantities as flux excitations of the systems. The validity of our theory is confirmed in several known solvable spin systems including the one-dimensional (1D) transverse-field Ising chain, the 2D Kitaev honeycomb model, and the 3D diamond lattice model. We also present new solvable models on a 1D trijunction, 2D and 3D fractal lattices, and the 3D cubic lattice.

Exactly solvable interacting vertex models

Francisco C Alcaraz, Matheus J Lazo

We introduce and solve a special family of integrable interacting vertex models that generalizes the well known six-vertex model. In addition to the usual nearest neighbour interactions among the vertices, there exist extra hard-core interactions among pairs of vertices at larger distances. The associated row-to-row transfer matrices are diagonalized by using the recently introduced matrix product ansatz. Like for the relation of the six-vertex model with the XXZ quantum chain, the row-to-row transfer matrices of these new models are also the generating functions of an infinite set of commuting conserved charges. Among these charges we identify the integrable generalization of the XXZ chain that contains hard-core exclusion interactions among the spins. These quantum chains have already appeared in the literature. The present paper explains their integrability.

Local conservation laws in spin- 1 2 XY chains with open boundary conditions

Maurizio Fagotti

Abstract We revisit the conserved quantities of the spin- 1 2 XY model with open boundary conditions. In the absence of a transverse field, we find new families of local charges and show that half of the seeming conservation laws are conserved only if the number of sites is odd. In even chains the set of noninteracting charges is abelian, like in the periodic case when the number of sites is odd. In odd chains the set is doubled and becomes non-abelian, like in even periodic chains. The dependence of the charges on the parity of the chain’s size undermines the common belief that the thermodynamic limit of diagonal ensembles exists. We consider also the transverse-field Ising chain, where the situation is more ordinary. The generalization to the XY model in a transverse field is not straightforward and we propose a general framework to carry out similar calculations. We conjecture the form of the bulk part of the local charges and discuss the emergence of quasilocal conserved quantities. We provide evidence that in a region of the parameter space there is a reduction of the number of quasilocal conservation laws invariant under chain inversion. As a by-product, we study a class of block-Toeplitz-plus-Hankel operators and identify the conditions that their symbols satisfy in order to commute with a given block-Toeplitz.
