Abstract

A bstract We will explore the dynamical property of non-equilibrium phenomena induced by two-dimensional holographic conformal field theory (2d holographic CFT) Hamiltonian on the curved spacetime by studying the time dependence of the entanglement entropy and mutual information. Here, holographic CFT is the CFT having the gravity dual. We will start from the boundary and thermofield double states, evolve the systems in Euclidean time with the Hamiltonian on the curved background, and then evolve them in real-time with the same Hamiltonian. We found that the early- and late-time entanglement structure depends on the curved background, while the entanglement growth does not, and is linear. Furthermore, in the gravity dual for the thermofield double state, this entanglement growth is due to the linear growth of the wormhole, while in the one for the boundary state, it is due to the in-falling of the end of the world brane to the black hole. We discussed the low temperature system can be regarded as the dynamical system induced by the multi-joining quenches. We also discussed the effective description of the high temperature system, called line tension picture.

Hawking-Page and entanglement phase transition in 2d CFT on curved backgrounds

Akihiro Miyata, Masahiro Nozaki A, Kotaro Tamaoka +1 more

A bstract The thermodynamics and the entanglement properties of two-dimensional conformal field theories (2d CFTs) on curved backgrounds are studied. By means of conformal mapping we study the equivalent system on flat space governed by the deformed Hamiltonian, which is a spatial integral of the Hamiltonian density modulated by an enveloping function. Focusing on holographic CFTs, we observe Hawking-Page like phase transition for the thermal and the entanglement entropy as we vary the background metric. We also compute the mutual information to study the information theoretic correlation between parts of the curved spacetime. The gravity dual of 2d CFTs on curved background is also discussed.

Entanglement Dynamics by (Non-)Unitary Local Operator Quenches in a 2D Holographic CFT

Weibo Mao, Akihiro Miyata, Masahiro Nozaki +1 more

In this paper, we investigate the time evolution of entanglement entropy and mutual information for the spatially-infinite systems where we act with a primary operator on the vacuum state and then time-evolve it with the sequence of the Euclidean and Lorentzian time evolutions. Two-dimensional holographic conformal field theories describe the systems under consideration in this paper. The Euclidean time evolution is induced by the Rindler Hamiltonian and behaves as the regulator that tames the divergence induced by the local operator, while the Lorentzian one is induced by the uniform Hamiltonian. Under these time evolutions, we investigate the time ordering effect of the Rindler Euclidean and uniform Lorentzian time evolution operators. Consequently, we find the remarkable differences between those time evolutions are induced by whether those are unitary or non-unitary. Especially, we find that the unitary time evolution induces the late-time logarithmic growth of the entanglement entropy, while the non-unitary time evolution induces the late-time constant behavior. Furthermore, we investigate the dual gravity of the systems under consideration. Especially, we investigate the gravity duals of the systems with the insertion of the heavy primary operator and show that it is a black brane with a spacetime-dependent horizon.

Local operator quench induced by two-dimensional inhomogeneous and homogeneous CFT Hamiltonians

Weibo Mao, Masahiro Nozaki, Kotaro Tamaoka +1 more

A bstract We explore non-equilibrium processes in two-dimensional conformal field theories (2d CFTs) due to the growth of operators induced by inhomogeneous and homogeneous Hamiltonians by investigating the time dependence of the partition function, energy density, and entanglement entropy. The non-equilibrium processes considered in this paper are constructed out of the Lorentzian and Euclidean time evolution governed by different Hamiltonians. We explore the effect of the time ordering on entanglement dynamics so that we find that in a free boson CFT and RCFTs, this time ordering does not affect the entanglement entropy, while in the holographic CFTs, it does. Our main finding is that in the holographic CFTs, the non-unitary time evolution induced by the inhomogeneous Hamiltonian can retain the initial state information longer than in the unitary time evolution.

Time ordering effects and destruction of quasiparticles in two-dimensional holographic CFTs

Weibo Mao, Masahiro Nozaki A

A bstract In this paper, we investigate the entanglement dynamics induced by a composite operator, defined as the local operator evolved with the time evolution operator constructed out of the Euclidean and Lorentzian ones. The systems under consideration are described by two-dimensional holographic conformal field theories (2d holographic CFTs), the theories described by gravity. Then, we find that the time ordering of Euclidean and Lorentzian time evolutions determines whether the time evolution, inducing the operator growth, is unitary. We also establish the relation between entanglement entropy and energy densities. This relation provides the entanglement entropy as a function of those densities. By exploiting this relation, we find that the time ordering, i.e., whether the time evolution is unitary, determines the late-time behavior of bipartite entanglement and non-local correlation. We also investigate how the decay of the quasiparticle influences the bipartite entanglement and non-local correlation. Furthermore, we investigate the gravity dual of the systems considered in this paper.

On entanglement dynamics in holographic theories

Hanzhi Jiang

Entanglement entropy (EE) is a concept of paramount importance in modern theoretical physics. Nevertheless, calculating EE in generic interacting theories with non-trivial time dependence is notoriously difficult. In this thesis, we address the real-time dynamics of EE in certain strongly-coupled quantum field theories (QFT) using the Anti-de Sitter/Conformal Field Theory (AdS/CFT) correspondence. We first study the time evolution of EE in an exactly solvable model of two-dimensional CFT with an inhomogeneous sine-square deformation (SSD). We argue that the non-trivial time evolutions driven by the SSD Hamiltonian can be regarded as changing the foliations of spacetime. Remarkably, this leads to the presence of new horizons in the dual three-dimensional bulk. We then compute the EE in SSD CFT using holography and found agreement with CFT results in all comparable cases. Afterwards, we proceed to entanglement dynamics in generic chaotic quantum many-body systems. In the limit of large subsystems and late times, entanglement dynamics is believed to be described by an entanglement membrane effective theory. For 2d CFTs, a degenerate tension function reproduces several results regarding the dynamics of the entropy; this stands in contrast to higher dimensions where the tension is non-degenerate. We use holography to show that, in order to correctly capture the reflected entropy in 2d CFT, one needs to add an additional degree of freedom to the membrane description. Furthermore, we show that the conventional non-degenerate membrane tension function emerges upon introducing a relevant deformation to the CFT, dual to a planar Banados-Teitelboim-Zanelli (BTZ) black hole with scalar hair and with an interior Kasner universe. Subsequently, we establish a membrane effective theory for the dynamics of reflected entropy in higher dimensions. Lastly, we apply the membrane theories for reflected entropy to study the time evolution of multiparty entanglement signals. We found that scrambling dynamics generate multiparty entanglement with rich structures.

Entanglement entropy and its linear response following a global quench in holographic Gauss-Bonnet gravity

Sabyasachi Maulik, Soumen Pari

Growth of entanglement entropy in time-dependent states formed due to a global quench in holographic conformal field theories which admit an Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet dual gravity description is studied. The global quench in the bulk is modelled by an AdS-Vaidya solution with an electric charge. It is observed that the Gauss-Bonnet correction parameter leads to faster thermalization, and lower saturation entropy. The rate of growth also depends crucially on the correction, and may exceed 1 in general spacetime dimensions. Nevertheless, the growth still follows the universal pattern expected for relativistic CFTs. Additionally, a time-dependent analogue of relative entropy introduced in [1] is generalized to include correction from the Gauss-Bonnet parameter. We demonstrate our findings through concrete examples, including instantaneous, linear, and periodically driven quenches. We also briefly mention the evolution of mutual information.
