Abstract

Abstract The Hulthén potential is a short-range potential widely used in various fields of physics. In this paper, we investigate the distribution functions for the Hulthén potential by using statistical and superstatistical methods. We first review the ordinary statistics and superstatistics methods. We then consider distribution functions, such as uniform, 2-level, gamma, and log-normal and F distributions. Finally, we investigate the behavior of the Hulthén potential for statistical and superstatistical methods and compare the results with each other. We use the Tsallis statistics of the superstatistical system. We conclude that the Tsallis behavior of different distribution functions for the Hulthén potential exhibits better results than the statistical method. We examined the thermal properties of the Hulthén potential for five different distributions: Uniform, 2-level, Gamma, Log-normal, and F. We plotted the Helmholtz free energy and the entropy as functions of temperature for various values of q. It shows that the two uniform and 2-level distributions have the same results due to the universal relationship and that the F distribution does not become ordinary statistics at q = 1. It also reveals that the curves of the Helmholtz free energy and the entropy change their order and behavior as q increases and that some distributions disappear or coincide at certain values of q. One can discuss the physical implications of our results and their applications in nuclear and atomic physics in the future.

Information theory and thermodynamic properties for a combined potential model

C. A. Onate, B. B. Deji-Jinadu, O. O. Ajani +2 more

Yukawa potential and Hulthẻn potential are very useful potential models with applications in different areas of physics. The present study examined theoretic measure and thermodynamic properties of energy levels and wave functions for a combination of these two potentials. The effect of screening parameter on Fisher information and Shannon entropy as well as the effect of temperature on the various thermodynamic properties of the combined potentials and its subsets potentials are well studied. The effects of screening parameter on the thermodynamic properties of the combined potentials are also studied. This study shows equivalence of temperature effect on the combined potential and Hulthẻn potential but a different effect on Yukawa potential. Fisher information and the Shannon entropy for both position and momentum spaces as a function of the screening parameter obey Heisenberg principle, satisfy Cramer-Rao inequality and Bialynick-Birula, Mycielski inequality. The Shannon entropy shows the stability of the system for low screening parameter. It is also shown that the strength of Hulthẻn potential outweighed the strength of Yukawa potential in their combination for thermodynamic properties.

Shannon information entropies of the Hulthén potential and their critical behavior near the system bound limit

Yu Xin Geng, Yong Zhi Zhang, Henry E Montgomery Jr +3 more

Abstract The Shannon entropies in both coordinate and momentum spaces for some low-lying eigenstates of the Hulthén potential (HP) are investigated over a wide range of screening parameters where bound states exist. The system wave functions are expanded in terms of multiple groups of Slater-type orbitals and the Hamiltonian is solved by employing the Rayleigh–Ritz variational method. The accuracy of the obtained bound-state eigenenergies, Shannon entropies, and radial mean values are validated by comparing with the analytical solutions of the HP in s-wave states. The Bialynicki–Birula and Mycielski inequalities for Shannon entropies in both the coordinate and momentum spaces as well as their sum are examined in both weak and strong screening situations. It is shown that the variation of Shannon entropy sum is governed by its upper bound for the system in a well-defined bound state. In the critical bound region where the system undergoes a bound-continuum transition, the Shannon entropies and entropy sum differ in states by their orbital angular momenta and their asymptotic behavior can be properly shaped by the rigorous upper and lower bounds in terms of the radial and momentum expectation values ⟨ r ⟩ and ⟨ p ⟩ . We finally extended the calculation to a modified HP (MHP) that has been widely discussed in the literature and compared our results with previous predictions. Benchmark Shannon entropies are provided for further investigation of the information measures of MHPs.

Superstatistics of Modified Rosen-Morse Potential with Dirac Delta and Uniform Distributions

U. S. Okorie, A. N. Ikot, Gaotsiwe Joel Rampho +1 more

Abstract We discuss the thermodynamic properties of a modified Rosen-Morse potential using the q -deformed superstatistics approaches. We obtain the partition function with the help of the generalized Boltzmann factor from the modified Dirac delta distribution and uniform distribution. Other thermodynamic function is obtained for the superstatistics of the two distributions considered. We also discuss our results graphically and obtain the ordinary statistical quantities when the deformation parameter tends to zero.

Exact solutions to generalized Dunkl oscillator and its thermodynamic properties

Shi‐Hai Dong, Wenhua Huang, Won Sang Chung +2 more

In this work, based on the generalized Dunkl derivative in quantum mechanics we study the one-dimensional Schrödinger equation with a harmonic oscillator potential and obtain the energy eigenvalues. The principal thermodynamical properties including the Helmholtz free energy, mean energy and entropy are carried out. The effects of the Dunkl parameters on the thermodynamical quantities for even parity are discussed. The case of the odd parity can be easily obtained by substitution of the b → − b and γ → − γ . All results in the limit case are reduced to ordinary statistical mechanics.

Supersymmetric quantum mechanics and statistical physics: Schrödinger-like thermodynamic equation

J. Morales, José Juan Peña

Supersymmetric quantum mechanics (SUSY QM) is used to determine the class of potentials that are solvable as well as to find their isospectral partners. To do that SUSY QM assumes the knowledge of the Witten superpotential as a particular solution of the Riccati equation involved in order to obtain the corresponding generalizations. Consequently, due to the fact that in statistical mechanics the internal energy is indeed known as a single temperature derivative of the Helmholtz free energy, a simple transformation has been proposed here in order to get, in an heuristic way, a Schrödinger-like thermodynamic (SLT) equation. In this proposal, the quantum Witten superpotential and the wavefunction correspond, in statistical physics, to the internal energy and to the canonical partition function respectively. With that, it is shown how all the results from SUSY QM can be incorporated in the statistical case, to find the generalized internal energy and partition functions as well as to generalize all the other related thermodynamical properties. As an example of the usefulness of the proposed SLT equation, the case of Boltzmann statistics has been considered explicitly and it was found that the corresponding generalized internal energy contain, as a particular case, the Bose–Einstein or the Fermi–Dirac probability distributions.

Comparison of Bohr and Hulthén hydrogen atomic energy levels using the time-independent solution of Schrodinger’s equation and confluent hypergeometric function

Guruh Sukarno Putra, Hamdi Akhsan

The energy for each level of the hydrogen atom was triggered by Neils Bohr, where the amount of energy decreases at every level of orbit. The value of energy depends on the principal quantum number which only applies to atoms with the s subshell of an atom with the same characteristics as the hydrogen atom. With the advancement of science, specifically in quantum physics, many potential equations aimed to solve the time-independent Schrodinger equation with the solution of the estimated value of energy. One of the applicable potential equations is the Hulthen potential which is explained about the potential at a small distance and only applies to atoms and micro-scale objects in physics and only has a solution at the azimuth quantum number value l = 0 or groups of atoms subshell s. Using the confluent hypergeometric function, the combination of the Hulthén potential and time-independent Schrödinger equation generates the estimated energy value of the hydrogen atom level, which can be used as a comparison with the estimated energy value of Bohr’s hydrogen atom. This study found that the comparison between Hulthén and Bohr energy level lies in the same ratio 1:1
