Abstract

Abstract Coherence is intrinsically related to projective measurement. When the fixed projective measurement involves higher-rank projectors, the coherence resource is referred to as block coherence, which comes from the superposition of orthogonal subspaces. Here, we establish a set of quantitative relations for the interconversion between block coherence and multipartite entanglement under the framework of the block-incoherent operations. It is found that the converted multipartite entanglement is upper bounded by the initial block coherence of single-party system. Moreover, the generated multipartite entanglement can be transferred to its subsystems and restored to block coherence of the initial single-party system by means of local block-incoherent operations and classical communication. In addition, when only the coarse-grained quantum operations are accessible for the ancillary subsystems, we further demonstrate that a lossless resource interconversion is still realizable, and give a concrete example in three four-level systems. Our results provide a versatile approach to utilize different quantum resources in a cyclic fashion.

Resource conversion between operational coherence and multipartite entanglement in many-body systems

Li-Hang Ren, Meng Gao, Junfeng Ren +2 more

Abstract We establish a set of resource conversion relationships between quantum coherence and multipartite entanglement in many-body systems, where the operational measures of resource cost and distillation are focused. Under the multipartite incoherent operation, the initial coherence of single-party system bounds the maximal amounts of corresponding operational entanglement in an arbitrary bipartite partition as well as the genuine multipartite entanglement (GME) in many-body systems. Furthermore, the converted multipartite entanglement can be transferred to its subsystems and restored to coherence of a single party by means of local incoherent operations and classical communication, which constitutes a protocol of resource interconversion within the full incoherent operation scenario. As an example, we present a scheme for cyclic interconversion between coherence and GME in three-qubit systems without loss. Moreover, we analyze the property of bipartite and multipartite genuine multi-level entanglement by the initial coherence and investigate multipartite resource dynamics in the conversion.

Operational resource conversion between coherence and entanglement in multipartite systems

Li-Hang Ren, Meng Gao, Junfeng Ren +2 more

We establish a kind of resource conversion relationship between quantum coherence and entanglement in multipartite systems, where the operational measures of resource cost and distillation are focused on. The coherence cost of single-party system bounds the maximal amounts of entanglement cost and entanglement of formation generated via multipartite incoherent operations. The converted entanglement in multipartite systems can be further transferred to subsystems or restored to coherence of single party by means of local incoherent operations and classical communications. The similar relations also hold for distillable coherence and entanglement. As an example, we present a scheme for cyclic interconversion between coherence and entanglement in three-qubit systems under full incoherent operations scenario. Moreover, we also analyze the property of genuine multi-level entanglement by the initial coherence and investigate resource dynamics in the conversion.

Converting multilevel nonclassicality into genuine multipartite entanglement

Bartosz Regula, Marco Piani, Marco Cianciaruso +3 more

Characterizing genuine quantum resources and determining operational rules for their manipulation are crucial steps to appraise possibilities and limitations of quantum technologies. Two such key resources are nonclassicality, manifested as quantum superposition between reference states of a single system, and entanglement, capturing quantum correlations among two or more subsystems. Here we present a general formalism for the conversion of nonclassicality into multipartite entanglement, showing that a faithful reversible transformation between the two resources is always possible within a precise resource-theoretic framework. Specializing to quantum coherence between the levels of a quantum system as an instance of nonclassicality, we introduce explicit protocols for such a mapping. We further show that the conversion relates multilevel coherence and multipartite entanglement not only qualitatively, but also quantitatively, restricting the amount of entanglement achievable in the process and in particular yielding an equality between the two resources when quantified by fidelity-based geometric measures.

Inequivalent multipartite coherence classes and two operational coherence monotones

Yu Luo, Yongming Li, Min-Hsiu Hsieh

Quantum coherence has received significant attention in recent years, but the structure of multipartite coherent states is unclear. In this paper, we generalize important results in multipartite entanglement theory to their counterparts in quantum coherence theory. First, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for when two pure multipartite states are equivalent under local incoherent operations assisted by classical communications (LICC), i.e., two states can be deterministically transformed to each other under LICC operations. Next, we investigate and give the conditions in which such a transformation succeeds only stochastically. Different from the entanglement case for two-qubit states, we find that the stochastic LICC (sLICC) equivalence classes are infinite. Moreover, it is possible that there are some classes of states in multipartite entanglement that can convert into each other, whereas they cannot convert into each other in multipartite coherence. In order to show the difference among sLICC classes, we introduce two coherence monotones: accessible coherence and source coherence, following the logistics given in [Phys. Rev. Lett. 115, 150502 (2015)]. These coherence monotones have a straightforward operational interpretation, namely, the accessible coherence characterizes the proficiency of a state to generate other states via quantum incoherent operations, whereas the source coherence characterizes the set of states that can be reached via quantum incoherent operations acting on the given state of interest.

Unification of coherence and quantum correlations in tripartite systems

Dong-Dong Dong, Geng-Biao Wei, Xue‐Ke Song +2 more

In quantum resource theories (QRTs), evidence of intrinsic connections between coherence and quantum correlations, including Bell nonlocality, entanglement, quantum steering, and so on, exists. However, building these relationships is a vital yet challenging task in multipartite quantum systems. Here, we focus on a unified framework of interpreting the interconversions among coherence and different quantum correlations in tripartite systems. In particular, an exact relation between the generalized geometric measure and the genuinely multipartite concurrence is derived for tripartite entanglement states. Then we obtain the trade-off relation between the first-order coherence and the genuine tripartite entanglement by the genuinely multipartite concurrence and concurrence fill. Furthermore, the trade-off relation between the maximum steering inequality violation and concurrence fill for arbitrary three-qubit states is found. In addition, we investigate the close relation between the maximum steering inequality violation and the first-order coherence. The results show that coherence and quantum correlations are intrinsically related and can be converted to one another in the framework of QRTs.

Quantum coherence via conditional entropy

Yunchao Liu, Qi Zhao, Xiao Yuan

Abstract Quantum coherence characterizes the non-classical feature of a single party system with respect to a local basis. Based on a recently introduced resource framework, coherence can be regarded as a resource and be systematically manipulated and quantified. Operationally, coherence quantifies the intrinsic randomness of the outcome of the projective measurement in the system’s computational basis. However, such a relation is only proven when randomness is characterized by the von Neumann entropy. In this work, we consider several recently proposed coherence measures and relate them to the general uncertainties of the projective measurement outcome conditioned on all the other systems. Our work thus provides a unified framework for redefining several coherence measures via general conditional entropies. Based on the relation, we numerically calculate the coherence measures via semi-definite programming. Furthermore, we discuss the operational meaning of the unified definition. Our result highlights the close relation between single partite coherence and bipartite quantum correlation.
