Abstract

Abstract We consider generating maximally entangled states (Bell states) between two qubits coupled to a common bosonic mode, based on f-STIRAP. Utilizing the systematic approach developed by Wang et al (2017 New J. Phys. 19 093016), we quantify the effects of non-adiabatic leakage and system dissipation on the entanglement generation, and optimize the entanglement by balancing non-adiabatic leakage and system dissipation. We find the analytical expressions of the optimal coupling profile, the operation time, and the maximal entanglement. Our findings have broad applications in quantum state engineering, especially in solid-state devices where dissipative effects cannot be neglected.

Fast generation of entanglement between coupled spins using optimization and deep learning methods

Dimitris Koutromanos, Dionisis Stefanatos, Emmanuel Paspalakis

Coupled spins form composite quantum systems which play an important role in many quantum technology applications, with an essential task often being the efficient generation of entanglement between two constituent qubits. The simplest such system is a pair of spins- $1/2$ coupled with Ising interaction, and in previous works various quantum control methods such as adiabatic processes, shortcuts to adiabaticity and optimal control have been employed to quickly generate there one of the maximally entangled Bell states. In this study, we use machine learning and optimization methods to produce maximally entangled states in minimum time, with the Rabi frequency and the detuning used as bounded control functions. We do not target a specific maximally entangled state, like the preceding studies, but rather find the controls which maximize the concurrence, leading thus automatically the system to the closest such state in shorter time. By increasing the bounds of the control functions we observe that the corresponding optimally selected maximally entangled state also changes and the necessary time to reach it is reduced. The present work demonstrates also that machine learning and optimization offer efficient and flexible techniques for the fast generation of entanglement in coupled spin systems, and we plan to extent it to systems involving more spins, for example spin chains.

Maximizing entanglement in bosonic Josephson junctions using shortcuts to adiabaticity and optimal control

Dionisis Stefanatos, Emmanuel Paspalakis

In this article we consider a bosonic Josephson junction, a model system composed by two coupled nonlinear quantum oscillators which can be implemented in various physical contexts, initially prepared in a product of weakly populated coherent states. We quantify the maximum achievable entanglement between the modes of the junction and then use shortcuts to adiabaticity , a method developed to speed up adiabatic quantum dynamics, as well as numerical optimization, to find time-dependent controls (the nonlinearity and the coupling of the junction) which bring the system to a maximally entangled state.

Shortcut-based generation of transmon-magnon entangled states

Run‐Ying Yan, Zhi‐Bo Feng

Abstract Optimized generation of entangled states between solid-state qubits is of fundamental significance to quantum information science and technology. Here, we develop an effective scheme to fast and robustly create the entangled states in a hybrid system containing a superconducting transmon qubit and a spin magnon of yttrium iron garnet. The transmon qubit and the magnon system are coupled via a microwave cavity field. Within the framework of invariant-based shortcuts to adiabaticity, the transmon-magnon entangled states can be rapidly induced by engineering the Rabi couplings between the cavity mode and transmon (magnon) with constant amplitudes. Compared with a non-shortcut counterpart, the shortcut-based operations of interest not only considerably shorten the generation time, but also greatly mitigate the decoherence effects. Furthermore, the fast dynamics is well insensitive to the control deviation of Rabi couplings. Thus our approach could lead to advances in information processing and state engineering with composite systems.

Dissipation-accelerated entanglement generation

Xiaowei Zheng, Jun-Cong Zheng, Xue‐Feng Pan +3 more

Dissipation is usually considered a negative factor for observing quantum effects and for harnessing them for quantum technologies. Here we propose a scheme for speeding up the generation of quantum entanglement between two coupled qubits by introducing a strong dissipation channel to one of these qubits. The maximal entanglement is conditionally established by evenly distributing a single excitation between these two qubits. When the excitation is initially held by the dissipative qubit, the dissipation accelerates the excitation re-distribution process for the quantum state trajectory without quantum jumps. Our results show that the time needed to conditionally attain the maximal entanglement is monotonously decreased as the dissipative rate is increased. We further show that this scheme can be generalized to accelerate the production of the W state for the three-qubit system, where one NH qubit is symmetrically coupled to two Hermitian qubits.

Shortcuts to adiabatic passage for the generation of a maximal Bell state and W state in an atom–cavity system

Mei Lu, Qing-Qin Chen

Abstract We propose an efficient scheme to generate the maximal entangle states in an atom–cavity system between two three-level atoms in cavity quantum electronic dynamics system based on shortcuts to adiabatic passage. In the accelerate scheme, there is no need to design a time-varying coupling coefficient for the cavity. We only need to tactfully design time-dependent lasers to drive the system into the desired entangled states. Controlling the detuning between the cavity mode and lasers, we deduce a determinate analysis formula for this quantum information processing. The lasers do not need to distinguish which atom is to be affected, therefore the implementation of the experiment is simpler. The method is also generalized to generate a W state. Moreover, the accelerated program can be extended to a multi-body system and an analytical solution in a higher-dimensional system can be achieved. The influence of decoherence and variations of the parameters are discussed by numerical simulation. The results show that the maximally entangled states can be quickly prepared in a short time with high fidelity, and which are robust against both parameter fluctuations and dissipation. Our study enriches the physics and applications of multi-particle quantum entanglement preparation via shortcuts to adiabatic passage in quantum electronic dynamics.

Remote Entanglement via Adiabatic Passage Using a Tunably Dissipative Quantum Communication System

Hung-Shen Chang, Youpeng Zhong, Audrey Bienfait +8 more

Effective quantum communication between remote quantum nodes requires high fidelity quantum state transfer and remote entanglement generation. Recent experiments have demonstrated that microwave photons, as well as phonons, can be used to couple superconducting qubits, with a fidelity limited primarily by loss in the communication channel [P. Kurpiers et al., Nature (London) 558, 264 (2018)NATUAS0028-083610.1038/s41586-018-0195-y; C. J. Axline et al., Nat. Phys. 14, 705 (2018)NPAHAX1745-247310.1038/s41567-018-0115-y; P. Campagne-Ibarcq et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 120, 200501 (2018)PRLTAO0031-900710.1103/PhysRevLett.120.200501; N. Leung et al., npj Quantum Inf. 5, 18 (2019)2056-638710.1038/s41534-019-0128-0; Y. P. Adiabatic protocols can overcome channel loss by transferring quantum states without populating the lossy communication channel. Here, we present a unique superconducting quantum communication system, comprising two superconducting qubits connected by a 0.73 m-long communication channel. Significantly, we can introduce large tunable loss to the channel, allowing exploration of different entanglement protocols in the presence of dissipation. When set for minimum loss in the channel, we demonstrate an adiabatic quantum state transfer protocol that achieves 99% transfer efficiency as well as the deterministic generation of entangled Bell states with a fidelity of 96%, all without populating the intervening communication channel, and competitive with a qubit-resonant mode-qubit relay method. We also explore the performance of the adiabatic protocol in the presence of significant channel loss, and show that the adiabatic protocol protects against loss in the channel, achieving higher state transfer and entanglement fidelities than the relay method.
