Revisiting the Lee-Yang singularities in the four-dimensional Ising model: a tribute to the memory of Ralph Kenna

Abstract

We have studied numerically the Lee-Yang singularities of the four dimensional Ising model at criticality, which is believed to be in the same universality class as the φ44 scalar field theory. We have focused in the numerical characterization of the logarithmic corrections to the scaling of the zeros of the partition function and its cumulative probability distribution, finding a very good agreement with the predictions of the renormalization group computation on the φ44 scalar field theory. To obtain these results, we have extended a previous study [R. Kenna, C. B. Lang, Nucl. Phys., 1993, B393, 461] in which there were computed numerically the first two zeros for L≤24 lattices, to the computation of the first four zeros for L≤64 lattices.

Scaling and density of Lee-Yang zeros in the four-dimensional Ising model

Ralph Kenna B, Christian B. Lang

All of the information on the behavior of the four-dimensional Ising model is contained in the distribution and density of its partition function zeros. This model is believed to belong to the same universality class as the ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\varphi}}}_{4}^{4}$ model which plays a central role in relativistic quantum field theory. Here the scaling behavior of the edge of the distribution of zeros and the asymptotic form for the density of zeros are determined. The finite-size dependency of the density of zeros---or the distance between zeros---at the infinite volume critical point is found using both analytic and numerical approaches. As with a previous analysis of the lowest lying zero, emphasis is laid on the multiplicative logarithmic corrections to mean field scaling behavior which are related to the triviality of the Ising and ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\varphi}}}^{4}$ models in four dimensions.

Yang-Lee Edge Singularity from a Real-Space Renormalization-Group Method

Katarina Uzelac, Pierre M. Pfeuty, Rémi Jullien

The quantum one-dimensional transverse Ising model with an imaginary longitudinal field is studied at $T=0$ using a real-space renormalization-group method. Evaluation is made of the real part of the ground-state longitudinal magnetization which is related to the Yang-Lee distribution of zeros of the partition function for the two-dimensional classical Ising model. The edge exponents are found as $\ensuremath{\sigma}=\ensuremath{-}0.25\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.05$ and $\ensuremath{\eta}=\ensuremath{-}1.0\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.02$, in agreement with series expansion estimates.

Griffiths singularities in the two-dimensional diluted Ising model

Juan Jesus Ruiz-Lorenzo

We study numerically the probability distribution of the Yang - Lee zeroes inside the Griffiths phase for the two-dimensional site diluted Ising model and we check that the shape of this distribution is that predicted in previous analytical works. By studying the finite-size scaling of the averaged smallest zero at the phase transition we extract, for two values of the dilution, the anomalous dimension, , which agrees very well with the previous estimated values.

Revisiting (logarithmic) scaling relations using renormalization group

Ruiz-Lorenzo

We explicitly compute the critical exponents associated with logarithmic corrections (the so-called hatted exponents) starting from the renormalization group equations and the mean field behavior for a wide class of models at the upper critical behavior (for short and long range φ n -theories) and below it.This allows us to check the scaling relations among these critical exponents obtained by analysing the complex singularities (Lee-Yang and Fisher zeroes) of these models. Moreover, we have obtained an explicit method to compute the ϙ exponent [defined by ξ ∼ L(log L) ϙ] and, finally, we have found a new derivation of the scaling law associated with it.
