Abstract

Abstract We consider Shannon entropy, Fisher information, Rényi entropy, and Tsallis entropy to study the quantum droplet phase in Bose–Einstein condensates. In the beyond mean-field description, the Gross–Pitaevskii equation with Lee-Huang-Yang correction gives a family of quantum droplets with different chemical potentials. At a larger value of chemical potential, quantum droplet with sharp-top probability density distribution starts to form while it becomes flat top for a smaller value of chemical potential. We show that entropic measures can distinguish the shape change of the probability density distributions and thus can identify the onset of the droplet phase. During the onset of droplet phase, the Shannon entropy decreases gradually with the decrease of chemical potential and attains a minimum in the vicinity where a smooth transition from flat-top to sharp-top QDs occurs. At this stage, the Shannon entropy increases abruptly with the lowering of chemical potential. We observe an opposite trend in the case of Fisher information. These results are found to be consistent with the Rényi and Tsallis entropic measures.

QUANTUM DROPLETS IN ULTRA COLD ATOMIC SYSTEMS

SK. SIDDIK, Golam Ali Sekh

We consider Bose-Einstein condensates (BEC) beyond mean-field theory by taking account quantum fluctuation. The quantum fluctuation due to Lee-Huang-Yang term along with mean field interaction gives an effective Gross-Pitaevskii equation that describes quantum droplets.Density distributions of droplets are localized with flat top and they are linearly stable. We also calculate Shannon entropy of the quantum droplet and find that it starts to increase abruptly at the threshold of droplet phase.

Probing information theoretic measures of nonlinear ultracold quantum gases using phase-space distributions

Mariyah Ughradar, Ramkumar Radhakrishnan, Siddharth Kumar Tiwari +1 more

We use phase space distributions, specifically the Wigner and Husimi quasi probability distributions, to study harmonically trapped Bose--Einstein condensate described by the Gross Pitaevskii equation. From the mean field ground state wavefunction we construct both distributions and their position and momentum space marginals and we use these to compute a comprehensive set of information theoretic measures: Shannon, Wehrl, and Rényi entropies; Fisher information; cumulative and cross cumulative residual entropies; mutual information; and Kullback--Leibler, Jeffreys, Cauchy Schwarz, and Rényi divergences. Studying these quantities as a function of the $s$-wave scattering length for a representative Rb-85 condensate, we find that stronger repulsive interactions drive increased phase space delocalization, seen by a monotonic growth of Shannon and Wehrl entropies, while the Fisher information shows the complementary trend -- increasing in position space and decreasing in momentum space in a manner consistent with the global Fisher uncertainty bound. Rényi entropies and divergence measures further reveal a systematic suppression of non classical interference and a shift toward more classical phase space structure in moving from the Wigner to the Husimi representation, with Wigner and Husimi based mutual informations converging at larger interaction strength. We note that, because the Gross Pitaevskii framework treats the many body state as a mean field product, the mutual information computed here quantifies statistical dependence between the conjugate phase space variables of the effective one body distribution rather than genuine particle particle entanglement.

Quantum droplets in one-dimensional Bose-Bose mixtures: beyond the Lee-Huang-Yang description

Abdelâali Boudjemâa, Karima Abbas

Abstract The static and dynamic properties of self-bound quantum droplets in a one-dimensional Bose-Bose mixture are discussed in the spirit of the Hartree–Fock-Bogoliubov theory. This latter enables us to provide beyond the Lee-Huang-Yang (LHY) quantum corrections to the equation of state at both zero and finite temperatures. In the uniform case our results for the ground-state energy and the critical temperature are confirmed through comparison with Quantum Monte-Carlo simulation and with available theoretical results. The density profiles are supported by numerical simulations of the generalized Gross-Pitaevskii equation which selfconsistently includes higher-order terms originating from the normal and anomalous fluctuations under the local density approximation. We show that the density exhibits a dip near its center in the flat-top plateau region for large interspecies interactions. We exemplify the impact of the beyond LHY corrections on the spatiotemporal evolution of the self-bound droplet in the presence of excitation induced by periodic density modulation. It is found that higher-order corrections may lead to the formation of a train of small droplets. We then extend our study for the case of inhomogeneous droplets in quasi one-dimensional Bose mixtures.

Dynamics of quantum droplets in Bose–Einstein condensates with three-body loss and external feeding

Sk Siddik, Golam Ali Sekh

Abstract We consider quantum droplets in Bose–Einstein condensates with three-body recombination and external feeding in a spherically symmetric harmonic trap. A quantum droplet is a self-bound state which arises due to the delicate balance between the mean-field effect and quantum fluctuation. We find effective potentials for flat- and sharp-top droplets and show that the potentials in both cases are minimized for certain values of the width. The width of a droplet oscillates periodically with time and the oscillation amplitude depends sensitively on the initial width of a droplet around the minimum of the effective potential. The maximum width of a droplet decreases gradually with time due to the loss of atoms arising from the three-body recombination. It shows that this loss of atoms can be managed by appropriately feeding the condensate from an external source to generate stable droplets. We examine the stability of a droplet by fixed point analysis and find that the region of stability is affected with the change of external feeding and three-body loss.

Density-Functional Theory of Quantum Droplets

Fan Zhang, Lan 澜 Yin 尹

Abstract In quantum droplets, the mean-field energy is comparable to the Lee-Huang-Yang (LHY) energy. In the Bogoliubov theory, the LHY energy of a quantum droplet has an imaginary part, which has been neglected in most studies for practical purposes. Thus far, most theoretical studies on quantum droplets have been based on the extended Gross-Pitaevskii (GP) equation, which includes the contribution of the LHY energy to the chemical potential. In this article, we present the density-functional theory of quantum droplets. In our approach, the quantum fluctuations in quantum droplets, as described by an effective action, generate a real correlation energy that can be determined consistently. Using density-functional theory, we calculated the energy, quantum depletion fraction, and excitations of the droplet. Our results for the ground-state energy and quantum depletion fractions were consistent with the Monte Carlo results. We also discuss the implications of our theory.

Bistable multipole quantum droplets in binary Bose-Einstein condensates

Liangwei Dong, Dongshuai Liu, Zhijing Du +2 more

We address the existence and stability of multipole quantum droplets in symmetric binary Bose-Einstein condensates described by the amended Gross-Pitaevskii equation with Lee-Huang-Yang quantum corrections. Quantum droplets trapped in a weakly anharmonic potential can be composed of different numbers of globally linked poles with an azimuthally periodic distribution. Due to the competing Lee-Huang-Yang-augmented nonlinearity, the norm of two branches of droplets with slopes of opposite sign merges together at a lower cutoff of chemical potential. The lower and upper branches of droplets at the same chemical potential, but with a different norm, can evolve stably in certain parameter regions simultaneously. The stability domain of droplets shrinks with the growth of the number of poles. Even unstable necklacelike droplets can survive for a very long time.
