Minimal criteria for continuous-variable genuine multipartite entanglement

Abstract

We derive a set of genuine multi-mode entanglement criteria for second moments of the quadrature operators. The criteria have a common form of the uncertainty relation between sums of variances of position and momentum quadrature combinations. A unique feature of the criteria is that the sums contain the least possible number of variances of at most two-mode combinations. The number of second moments we need to know to apply the criteria thus scales only linearly with the number of modes, as opposed to the quadratic scaling of the already existing criteria. Each criterion is associated with a tree graph, which allowed us to develop a direct method of construction of the criteria based solely on the structure of the underlying tree. The practicality of the proposed criteria is demonstrated by finding a number of examples of Gaussian states of up to six modes, whose genuine multi-mode entanglement is detected by them. The designed criteria are particularly suitable for verification of genuine multipartite entanglement in large multi-mode states or when only a set of two-mode nearest-neighbour marginal covariance matrices of the investigated state is available.

Generalized conditions for genuine multipartite continuous-variable entanglement

Evgeny V Shchukin, Peter van Loock

We derive a hierarchy of continuous-variable multipartite entanglement conditions in terms of second-order moments of position and momentum operators that generalize existing criteria. Each condition corresponds to a convex optimization problem which, given the covariance matrix of the state, can be numerically solved in a straightforward way. The conditions are independent of partial transposition and thus are also able to detect bound entangled states. Our approach can be used to obtain an analytical condition for genuine multipartite entanglement. We demonstrate that even a special case of our conditions can detect entanglement very efficiently. Using multiobjective optimization, it is also possible to numerically verify genuine entanglement of some experimentally realizable states.

Scalable multipartite entanglement criteria for continuous variables

Xiaoyu Chen

Multipartite entanglement detection is crucial for the develop of quantum information science and quantum computation, communication, simulation and metrology tasks. In contrast to experiments, where several handreds of qubits have been entangled to build a quantum computer or a quantum simulator, theoretically only for lower dimensional quantum system such as two qubit system or two-mode Gaussian state and some special quantum states, efficient criteria have been developed to detect the entanglement. An efficient and practical entanglement detection method is anticipated to appear for current scalable quantum system. Based on the matched entanglement witness scheme and integrated uncertainty relations, we propose a quite general entanglement detection method for all kinds of multipartite entanglement of multimode continuous variable systems. With the covariance matrix of any randomly generated multimode continuous variable quantum state, our criterion can detect entanglement, genuine entanglement and other kinds of inseparabilities almost imidiately.

Systematic construction of genuine-multipartite-entanglement criteria in continuous-variable systems using uncertainty relations

Fabricio Toscano, A. Saboia, Ardiley Torres Avelar +1 more

A general procedure to construct criteria for identifying genuine multipartite continuous-variable entanglement is presented. It relies on the definition of adequate global operators describing the multipartite system, the positive partial transpose criterion of separability, and quantum-mechanical uncertainty relations. As a consequence, each criterion encountered consists of a single inequality that is nicely computable and experimentally feasible. Violation of the inequality is a sufficient condition for genuine multipartite entanglement. Additionally, we show that the previous work of van Loock and Furusawa [P. van Loock and A. Furusawa, Phys. Rev. A 67, 052315 (2003)] is a special case of our result.

Criteria to detect genuine multipartite entanglement using spin measurements

Run Yan Teh, M. D. Reid

We derive conditions in the form of inequalities to detect the genuine $N$-partite entanglement of $N$ systems. The inequalities are expressed in terms of variances of spin operators and can be tested by local spin measurements performed on the individual systems. Violation of the inequalities is sufficient (but not necessary) to certify the multipartite entanglement and occurs when a type of spin squeezing is created. The inequalities are similar to those derived for continuous-variable systems, but instead are based on the Heisenberg spin-uncertainty relation $\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Delta}}{J}_{x}\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Delta}}{J}_{y}\ensuremath{\ge}|\ensuremath{\langle}{J}_{z}\ensuremath{\rangle}|/2$. We also extend previous work to derive spin-variance inequalities that certify the full tripartite inseparability or genuine multipartite entanglement among systems with fixed spin $J$, as in Greenberger--Horne--Zeilinger (GHZ) states and W states where $J=1/2$. These inequalities are derived from the planar spin-uncertainty relation ${(\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Delta}}{J}_{x})}^{2}+{(\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Delta}}{J}_{y})}^{2}\ensuremath{\ge}{C}_{J}$ where ${C}_{J}$ is a constant for each $J$. Finally, it is shown how the inequalities detect multipartite entanglement based on Stokes operators. We illustrate with experiments that create entanglement shared among separated atomic ensembles, polarization-entangled optical modes, and the clouds of atoms of an expanding spin-squeezed Bose-Einstein condensate. For each example, we give a criterion to certify the mutual entanglement.

Detection of non-Gaussian entangled states with an improved continuous-variable separability criterion

Anaelle Hertz, Evgueni Karpov, Aikaterini Mandilara +1 more

Currently available separability criteria for continuous-variable states are generally based on the covariance matrix of quadrature operators. The well-known separability criterion of Duan et al. [L. M. Duan et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 84, 2722 (2000)] and Simon [R. Simon, Phys. Rev. Lett. 84, 2726 (2000)], for example, gives a necessary and sufficient condition for a two-mode Gaussian state to be separable, but leaves many entangled non-Gaussian states undetected. Here we introduce an improvement of this criterion that enables a stronger entanglement detection. The improved condition is based on the knowledge of an additional parameter, namely, the degree of Gaussianity, and exploits a connection with Gaussianity-bounded uncertainty relations [A. Mandilara and N. J. Cerf, Phys. Rev. A 86, 030102 (2012)]. We exhibit families of non-Gaussian entangled states whose entanglement remains undetected by the Duan-Simon criterion.

Identifying genuine entanglement of lossy noisy very large scale continuous variable Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state

Xiao-yu Chen

Genuine entanglement identification of large scale systems is crucial for quantum computation, quantum communication and quantum learning advantage. In contrast to experiments, where noisy intermediate-scale programmable photonic quantum processors have been developed, theoretically very limited results have been achieved for detecting genuine entanglement of continuous variable multipartite systems. We propose a quite general and efficient entanglement detection framework for all kinds of multipartite entanglement of continuous variable systems based on uncertainty relations and the sign matrix technique. Matrix criteria are demonstrated and can be applied to various entanglement depth and k-separability problems of multimode systems. We illustrate the genuine entanglement conditions of continuous variable Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states of more than a hundred million modes in a photon loss and noise environment.
