Efficient Entanglement Swapping in Quantum Networks for Multi-User Scenarios

Binjie He, Seng W. Loke, Luke Lu +1 more

Entanglement swapping is a crucial step in quantum communication, generating long-distance entanglements between quantum users for quantum network applications, such as distributed quantum computing. This study focuses on the efficiency of entanglement swapping strategies in quantum networks, particularly in multi-user concurrent quantum communication. Since multi-user concurrent quantum communication consists of multiple point-to-point quantum communications, we first analyze the challenges faced by existing entanglement swapping strategies in this scenario and then propose Parallel Segment Entanglement Swapping (PSES) to address them. PSES utilizes a tree-like model to divide the path into segments and execute entanglement swapping in parallel across them, thereby enhancing the generation rate of long-distance entanglement. Furthermore, we analyze the impact of resource contention on entanglement swapping in multi-user concurrent quantum communication and propose Multi-user PSES (M-PSES) to alleviate this negative impact. M-PSES leverages the entanglement swapping trigger signal and resource locking mechanisms to mitigate resource contention. The simulation results show that PSES performs superiorly to existing entanglement swapping strategies in point-to-point quantum communication, and M-PSES can achieve better performance than PSES in multi-user concurrent quantum communication.

Entanglement Routing Over Quantum Networks Using Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger Measurements

Yiming Zeng, Jiarui Zhang, Ji yin Liu +2 more

Generating a long-distance quantum entanglement is one of the most essential functions of a quantum network to support quantum communication and computing applications. The successful entanglement rate during a probabilistic entanglement process decreases dramatically with distance, and swapping is a widely-applied quantum technique to address this issue. Most existing entanglement routing protocols use a classic entanglement-swapping method based on Bell State measurements that can only fuse two successful entanglement links. This paper appeals to a more general and efficient swapping method, namely n-fusion based on Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger measurements that can fuse n successful entanglement links, to maximize the entanglement rate for multiple quantum-user pairs over a quantum network. We propose efficient entanglement routing algorithms that utilize the properties of n-fusion for quantum networks with general topologies. Evaluation results highlight that our proposed algorithm under n-fusion can greatly improve the network performance compared with existing ones.

Multiuser Time-Energy Entanglement Swapping Based on Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexed and Sum-Frequency Generation

Yuanhua Li, Yiwen Huang, Tong Xiang +4 more

Perfect entanglement swapping, which can be realized without the postselection by using the nonlinear optical technology, provides an important way toward generating the large-scale quantum network. We explore an entanglement-swapping-based dense wavelength division multiplexed network in the experiment. Four users receive single quantum states at different wavelengths, and we perform a time-energy entanglement swapping operation based on the sum-frequency generation to make users fully connected in the network. The results show that the fidelity of the entangled state is larger than 90% and is independent of the number of users. Our Letter demonstrates the feasibility of a proposed multiuser network, and hence paves a route toward a variety of quantum applications, including entanglement-swapping-based quantum direct communication.
