Abstract

Abstract We show that the partial transpose of 9 × 9 positive semidefinite matrices do not have inertia ( 4 , 1 , 4 ) and ( 3 , 2 , 4 ) . It solves an open problem in ‘LINEAR AND MULTILINEAR ALGEBRA. Changchun Feng et al, 2022’. We apply our results to construct some inertia, as well as present the list of all possible inertia of partial transpose of 12 × 12 positive semidefinite matrices.

Inertia of decomposable entanglement witnesses

Lin Chen, Bohan Jiang

Abstract We investigate the inertia (i.e., the array of numbers of negative, zero and positive eigenvalues of an Hermitian matrix) of decomposable entanglement witnesses (EWs). We show that the 2 × n and two-qutrit decomposable EWs have the same inertias as those of non-positive-transpose (NPT) EWs. We also show that if an m × n EW W has inertia (p, a p , mn − p − a p ) with p≥1, then for every integer b ∈ [0, a p ], then we can find an EW W b such that InW b = (p, b, mn − p − b). If W is a decomposable (resp. NPT) EW, then we can choose W b as also a decomposable (resp. NPT) EW. We further show that the m × n decomposable EW with the maximum number of negative eigenvalues can be chosen as an NPT EW. Then we explicitly characterize the 2 × 3 EWs, and decomposable EWs P Γ + Q with positive semidefinite matrices P of rank one and Q. We also show that a 2 × 4 non-decomposable EW has no inertia (3, 2, 3). Then we show some properties of a 2 × 4 non-decomposable EW of inertia (2, 3, 3), if it exists.

Positive partial transpose from spectra

Roland Hildebrand

In this paper we solve the following problem. Let ${\mathcal{H}}_{nm}$ be a Hilbert space of dimension $nm$, and let $A$ be a positive semidefinite self-adjoint linear operator on ${\mathcal{H}}_{nm}$. Under which conditions on the spectrum has $A$ a positive partial transpose (is PPT) with respect to any partition ${\mathcal{H}}_{n}\ensuremath{\bigotimes}{\mathcal{H}}_{m}$ of the space ${\mathcal{H}}_{nm}$ as a tensor product of an $n$-dimensional and an $m$-dimensional Hilbert space? We show that the necessary and sufficient conditions can be expressed as a set of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) on the eigenvalues of $A$.

Semidefinite descriptions of separable matrix cones

Roland Hildebrand

Let K, K' be convex cones residing in finite-dimensional real vector spaces E, E'. An element in the tensor product E \otimes E' is K \otimes K'-separable if it can be represented as finite sum \sum_l x_l \otimes x'_l with x_l \in K and x_l' \in K' for all l. Let S(n), H(n), Q(n) be the spaces of n x n real symmetric, complex hermitian and quaternionic hermitian matrices, respectively. Let further S_+(n), H_+(n), Q_+(n) be the cones of positive semidefinite matrices in these spaces. If a matrix in H(mn) = H(m) \otimes H(n) is H_+(m) \otimes H_+(n)-separable, then it fulfills also the so-called PPT condition, i.e. it is positive semidefinite and has a positive semidefinite partial transpose. The same implication holds for matrices in the spaces S(m) \otimes S(n), H(m) \otimes S(n), and for m < 3 in the space Q(m) \otimes S(n). We provide a complete enumeration of all pairs (n,m) when the inverse implication is also true for each of the above spaces, i.e. the PPT condition is sufficient for separability. We also show that a matrix in Q(n) \otimes S(2) is Q_+(n) \otimes S_+(2)-separable if and only if it is positive semidefinite.

In this paper we solve the following problem. Let Hnm{\mathcal{H}}_{nm}Hnm be a Hilbert space of dimension nmnmnm, and let AAA be a positive semidefinite self-adjoint linear operator on Hnm{\mathcal{H}}_{nm}Hnm. Under which conditions on the spectrum has AAA a positive partial transpose (is PPT) with respect to any partition ${\mathcal{H}}_{n}\ensuremath{\bigotimes}{\mathcal{H}}_{m}$ of the space Hnm{\mathcal{H}}_{nm}Hnm as a tensor product of an nnn-dimensional and an mmm-dimensional Hilbert space? We show that the necessary and sufficient conditions can be expressed as a set of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) on the eigenvalues of AAA.
