Abstract

Schr\"odinger cat states, which are superpositions of macroscopically distinct states, are potentially critical resources for upcoming quantum information technologies. In this paper we introduce a scheme to generate entangled Schr\"odinger cat states in a nonrelativistic electric dipole system situated on a two-dimensional plane, along with an external potential and a uniform strong magnetic field perpendicular to the plane. Additionally, our findings demonstrate that this setup can lead to the phenomenon of collapse and revival of entanglement for a specific range of our model parameters.

Spin cat states in ferromagnetic insulators

Sanchar Sharma, Victor A. S. V. Bittencourt, Alexy D. Karenowska +1 more

Generating nonclassical states in macroscopic systems is a long-standing challenge. A promising platform in the context of this quest are novel hybrid systems based on magnetic dielectrics, where photons can couple strongly and coherently to magnetic excitations, although a nonclassical state therein is yet to be observed. We propose a scheme to generate a magnetization cat state, i.e., a quantum superposition of two distinct magnetization directions, using a conventional setup of a macroscopic ferromagnet in a microwave cavity. Our scheme uses the ground state of an ellipsoid shaped magnet, which displays anisotropic quantum fluctuations akin to a squeezed vacuum. The magnetization collapses to a cat state by either a single photon or a parity measurement of the microwave cavity state. We find that a cat state with two components separated by $\ensuremath{\sim}5\ensuremath{\hbar}$ is feasible and briefly discuss potential experimental setups that can achieve it.

Entanglement of Magnetically Levitated Massive Schrödinger Cat States by Induced Dipole Interaction

Ryan J. Marshman, Sougato Bose, Andrew A. Geraci +1 more

Quantum entanglement provides a novel way to test short-distance quantum physics in a non-relativistic regime. We provide entanglement-based protocols to potentially test the magnetically induced dipole-dipole interaction and the Casimir-Polder potential between the two nano-crystals kept in a Schrodinger Cat state. Our scheme is based on the Stern-Gerlach (SG) apparatus, where we can witness the entanglement mediated by these interactions for the nano-crystal mass m~10^-19 kg with a spatial superposition size of order 0.1 micron in a trap relying on diamagnetic levitation. We show that it is possible to close the SG interferometer in position and momentum with a modest gradient in the magnetic field.

Schrödinger-cat states of the electromagnetic field and multilevel atoms

P. L. Knight, Bruce W. Shore

We demonstrate that the generalization of the two-level Jaynes-Cummings model to an N-level atom leads to the creation of up to N macroscopically distinct field states. These field states are Schmidt-orthogonalized superpositions of Fock states. They correspond to macroscopic states of the field, attainable with large mean photon numbers. Unlike the situation with a two-level atom and a coherent-state field, which evolves into a macroscopic coherent superposition state (a Schr\"odinger cat), we find that when the additional levels participate strongly in the excitation (e.g., all transitions are resonant with equal dipole moments) then the system does not evolve into a pure state.

Generation of Schrödinger cat state in circuit QED

Gang Zhang, Ping Dong, Jian Zhou

An attractive scheme for generation the Schrödinger cat state is proposed in the circuit QED system with suitable driving field. By tuning the external magnetic flux properly, the qubit and cavity strong coupling can be realized insensitively to the thermal state of the cavity. Discussions show that our scheme is feasible within current experimental technology.

PRODUCTION AND DETECTION OF SCHRDINGER CAT STATE AND ITS EFFECT ON THE EVOLUTION OF JAYNES-CUMMINGS MODEL

Xiaoguang Wang, 东北师范大学理论物理研究所,长春130024

In this article, we have studied how to generate macroscopic quantum superposition states in electromagnetic field, the Schrodinger cat states, from the large-detuning degenerate Raman process and the large-detuning two-photon Jaynes-Cummings model. The homodyne detection of these states is also discussed. When the initial state of the field is the Schrodinger cat state, the effects of the cat state on the collapse and revival phenomena in the intensity-dependent Jaynes-Cummings model are investigated. The revival in varying degrees occurs in the collapse region resulted from the evolution of initial coherent state.

Preparation of Schrödinger cat states in noncommutative space

Ying Wu, Xiaoxue Yang

We show that there exist a large class of new nontrivial exactly solvable models with their potentials depending only on one spatial variable on a 2D noncommutative plane and show that their general solutions are Schr\"odinger cat states. This feature not only establishes an interesting connection between quantum mechanics on noncommutative spaces and quantum information science but also shed light on proposing new schemes based on the quantum entanglement to test the noncommutativity.
