Abstract

Abstract We show how to dissipatively stabilize the quantum state of N mechanical resonators in an optomechanical system, where the resonators interact by radiation pressure with N optical modes, which are driven by properly selected multifrequency drives. We analyze the performance of this approach for the stationary preparation of Gaussian cluster states.

Multimode Gaussian steady-state engineering in optomechanical systems with a squeezed reservoir

Nahid Yazdi, Stefano Zippilli, David Vitali

We investigate a theoretical protocol for the dissipative stabilization of mechanical quantum states in a multimode optomechanical system composed of multiple optical and mechanical modes. The scheme employs a single squeezed reservoir that drives one of the optical modes, while the remaining optical modes mediate an effective phonon-phonon interaction Hamiltonian. The interplay between these coherent interactions and the dissipation provided by the squeezed bath enables the steady-state preparation of targeted quantum states of the mechanical modes. In the absence of significant uncontrolled noise sources, the resulting dynamics closely approximate the model introduced in [Zippilli , ]. We analyze the performance of this protocol in generating mechanical cluster states defined on rectangular graphs.

Nonclassical non-Gaussian state of a mechanical resonator via selectively incoherent damping in a three-mode optomechanical system

Kang-jing Huang, Yan Yan, Jia‐pei Zhu +2 more

In this paper we propose a scheme for the generation of a nonclassical non-Gaussian motional state of a mechanical resonator (MR) in the three-mode optomechanical system in which two linearly coupled single-mode cavities interact dispersively with the mechanical oscillator simultaneously. With one cavity driven by a weak laser field and by properly tuning the driving frequency, a desirable phononic Liouvillian superoperator can be obtained by engineering the selective interaction Hamiltonian confined to Fock subspaces. It is shown that the MR can be driven dissipatively into a steady non-Gaussian nonclassical state, which possesses sub-Poisson statistics, although its Wigner function is positive. The present scheme can be useful for obtaining single phonons.

Generation of cluster states in optomechanical quantum systems

Oussama Houhou, H. Aissaoui, Alessandro Ferraro

We consider an optomechanical quantum system composed of a single cavity mode interacting with $N$ mechanical resonators. We propose a scheme for generating continuous-variable graph states of arbitrary size and shape, including the so-called cluster states for universal quantum computation. The main feature of this scheme is that, differently from previous approaches, the graph states are hosted in the mechanical degrees of freedom rather than in the radiative ones. Specifically, via a $2N$-tone drive, we engineer a linear Hamiltonian which is instrumental to dissipatively drive the system to the desired target state. The robustness of this scheme is assessed against finite interaction times and mechanical noise, confirming it as a valuable approach towards quantum state engineering for continuous-variable computation in a solid-state platform.

Dissipative phonon-Fock-state production in strong nonlinear optomechanics

G. D. de Moraes Neto, Víctor Montenegro, Victor Fernandes Teizen +1 more

We put forward a deterministic dissipative protocol to prepare phonon Fock states in nonlinear quantum optomechanical devices. The system is composed of a mechanical mode interacting with an optical field via radiation pressure, whereas the light mode is laser driven in the resolved blue-sideband regime. To keep our results tractable, we switch to an interaction picture in a displaced basis, where the effective Hamiltonian exhibits the selective photon-phonon interaction explicitly. After proper parameter adjustment and similarly to cavity-cooling schemes, the quantum evolution allows steering of the mechanical degree of freedom to the desired Fock state by directing the optical excitations dynamically towards the target phonon state. The numerical results, including decoherence on both the mechanical and the optical degrees of freedom, prove to be quite robust in the good- and bad-cavity regimes, with fidelities exceeding 95%. Finally, characterization of the achieved nonclassicality, as well as the limitations and feasibility of our protocol under experimental parameters, is also discussed.

Quantum effects in optomechanical systems

Claudiu Genes, Andrea Mari, David Vitali +1 more

The search for experimental demonstrations of the quantum behavior of macroscopic mechanical resonators is a fastly growing field of investigation and recent results suggest that the generation of quantum states of resonators with a mass at the microgram scale is within reach. In this chapter we give an overview of two important topics within this research field: cooling to the motional ground state, and the generation of entanglement involving mechanical, optical and atomic degrees of freedom. We focus on optomechanical systems where the resonator is coupled to one or more driven cavity modes by the radiation pressure interaction. We show that robust stationary entanglement between the mechanical resonator and the output fields of the cavity can be generated, and that this entanglement can be transferred to atomic ensembles placed within the cavity. These results show that optomechanical devices are interesting candidates for the realization of quantum memories and interfaces for continuous variable quantum communication networks.

Fast generation of high-fidelity mechanical non-Gaussian states via additional amplifier and photon subtraction

Dong-Long Hu, Jia-Jin Zou, Feng-Xiao Sun +3 more

A protocol is proposed to selectively generate high-fidelity mechanical Schr\"odinger cat and Fock states in weak-coupled optomechanical systems. It is achieved by performing an adjustable parametric amplification and a multiphoton subtraction on the optical mode that is entangled with the mechanical mode via the radiation pressure.
