Stable dynamic helix state in the nonintegrable XXZ Heisenberg model

Abstract

Abstract We investigate the influence of external fields on the stability of spin helix states in an XXZ Heisenberg model. Exact diagonalization on a finite system shows that random transverse fields in the x and y directions drive the transition from integrability to nonintegrability. In such a system, the helix state can be regarded as a quantum scar. Simultaneously, the presence of uniform z field enables the helix state to better maintain its dynamical nature, allowing for a clearer understanding of its evolutionary behavior. However, the entanglement entropy reveals that irrespective of the presence of a uniform z field, as long as the system remains chaotic, the scar extent of the helix state shows no significant variation.

Quantum scars in spin- 1/2 isotropic Heisenberg clusters

Gang Zhang, Z. Song

Abstract We investigate the influence of the external fields on the statistics of energy levels and towers of eigenstates in spin- 1 / 2 isotropic Heisenberg clusters, including chain, ladder, square and triangular lattices. In the presence of uniform field in one direction, the SU(2) symmetry of the system allows that almost whole spectrum consists of a large number of towers with identical level spacing. Exact diagonalization on finite clusters shows that random transverse fields in other two directions drive the level statistics from Poisson to Wigner–Dyson distributions with different values of mean level spacing ratio, indicating the transition from integrability to non-integrability. However, for the three types of clusters, it is found that the largest tower still hold approximately even the symmetry is broken, resulting to a quantum scar. Remarkably, the non-thermalized states cover the Greenberger–Horn–Zeilinger and W states, which maintain the feature of revival while a Neel state decays fast in the dynamic processes. In addition, some dynamic schemes for experimental detection are proposed. Our finding reveals the possibility of quantum information processing that is immune to the thermalization in finite size quantum spin clusters.

Exact spin helix eigenstates in the anisotropic spin-$s$ Heisenberg model with arbitrary dimensions

Mingchen Zheng, Liang, Chenguang, Shu Chen +1 more

Spin helix states-characterized by their spatially modulated spin textures-are exact eigenstates of the one-dimensional anisotropic spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ Heisenberg model under specific parameter conditions. In this work, we extend this framework by constructing exact spin helix eigenstates for the fully anisotropic XYZ Heisenberg model with arbitrary spatial dimensions and arbitrary spin quantum numbers. Our results demonstrate that some non-trivial exact eigenstates can persist beyond the integrable regime. The XXZ and XY cases are also analyzed to clarify the conditions for the emergence of spin helix eigenstates and their key properties. Our results broaden the class of analytically tractable exact eigenstates in non-integrable systems and deepen understanding of spin modulation states in many-body systems.

Catching Bethe phantoms and quantum many-body scars: Long-lived spin-helix states in Heisenberg magnets

Niklas Jepsen, Yoo Kyung Lee, Hanzhen Lin +4 more

Exact solutions for quantum many-body systems are rare and provide valuable insight to universal phenomena. Here we show experimentally in anisotropic Heisenberg chains that special helical spin patterns can have very long lifetimes. This finding confirms the recent prediction of phantom Bethe states, exact many-body eigenstates carrying finite momenta yet no energy. We theoretically find analogous stable spin helices in higher dimensions and in other non-integrable systems, where they imply non-thermalizing dynamics associated with quantum many-body scars. We use phantom spin helices to directly measure the interaction anisotropy which has a major contribution from short-range off-site interactions that have not been observed before. Phantom helix states open new opportunities for quantum simulations of spin physics and studies of many-body dynamics.

Robust unidirectional phantom helix states in the XXZ Heisenberg model with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction

Youguo Shi, Z. Song

Phantom helix states are a special set of degenerate eigenstates of the XXZ Heisenberg model which lie in the energy levels around zero energy and are bidirectionally equal. In this work, we study the helix state in the XXZ Heisenberg model with the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI). We show exactly that only the helix states in one direction remain unchanged in the presence of resonant DMI. Based on the Holstein-Primakoff transformation, the quantum spin model is mapped to a boson model, which allows us to understand the underlying mechanism. Furthermore, it also indicates that such phantom states can be separated from the spectrum by the strong DMI to enhance the robustness of the states. We demonstrate the dynamic formation processes of unidirectional phantom helix states by numerical simulations. The results indicate that the DMI, as expected, acts as a filter with high efficiency.

Exact spin helix eigenstates in the anisotropic spin- s Heisenberg model with arbitrary dimensions

Spin helix states with spatially modulated spin textures are exact eigenstates of the one-dimensional anisotropic spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ Heisenberg model under specific parameter conditions. In this work, we extend this framework by constructing exact eigenstates of the fully anisotropic XYZ Heisenberg model, with spin helix structures modulated by elliptic functions, across all spatial dimensions and spin quantum numbers. The XXZ and XY cases are also analyzed to clarify the conditions for the emergence of spin helix eigenstates and their key properties. Within the subspace spanned by these elliptic spin helix states, a family of analytically tractable states can be identified. Our results broaden the class of exactly solvable eigenstates in nonintegrable systems and deepen the understanding of spin modulation states in many-body systems.

Decay of spin helices in XXZ quantum spin chains with single-ion anisotropy

Florian Lange, Frank Göhmann, Gerhard Wellein +1 more

Long-lived spin-helix states facilitate the study of non-equilibrium dynamics in quantum magnets. We consider the decay of transverse spin-helices in antiferromagnetic spin-$S$ XXZ chains with single-ion anisostropy. The spin-helix decay is observable in the time evolution of the local magnetization that we calculate numerically for the system in the thermodynamic limit using infinite time-evolving block decimation simulations. Although the single-ion anisotropy prevents helix states from being eigenstates of the Hamiltonian, they still can be long-lived for appropriately chosen wave numbers. In case of an easy-axis exchange anisotropy the single-ion anisotropy may even stabilize the helices. Within a spin-wave approximation, we obtain a condition giving an estimate for the most stable wave number $Q$ that agrees qualitatively with our numerical results.
