Osteoarthritis Classification Using Hybrid Quantum Convolutional Neural Network

Devansh Tikariha, Abdul Moomin, D. Jeyamani +1 more

This work explores the integration of quantum computing within a classical Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) framework, leveraging a VGG16 model enhanced with a quantum Convolutional Neural Network (QCNN) for the classification of knee osteoarthritis (OA) severity. A custom quantum layer was incorporated to boost the model’s feature extraction capabilities, enabling effective differentiation between healthy and OA-affected knees in medical imaging data. The model utilizes the Swish activation function, which combines smoothness and nonlinearity to enhance learning efficiency and gradient flow, which are critical in complex diagnostic tasks. Using a QCNN, this model harnesses the ability of quantum computing to represent high-dimensional data transformations, a novel approach that complements classical CNN layers by exploring patterns that are not easily captured in traditional networks. The initial results showed a high classification accuracy of 97.26%, suggesting that quantum-enhanced layers can significantly bolster feature extraction and classification in medical diagnostics. Furthermore, multiple variations of pre-trained models with Quantum Convolutional Layers, such as XceptionNet, ResNet, and InceptionNet, were developed and compared in terms of the evaluation metrics that achieved 87.84,89.70,86.64, respectively. This hybrid VGG16-QCNN model showed the highest accuracy, demonstrating the potential of QCNNs in advancing the precision and scalability of AI-driven healthcare solutions.

Full-Rotation Quantum Convolutional Neural Network for Abnormal Intrusion Detection System

Suya Chao, Guang Yang, Min Nie +2 more

Intrusion detection system (IDS) is a significant mechanism to improve network security. As a promising technique, machine learning (ML) methods has been applied in IDS to obtain high classification accuracy. However, classical ML based IDS methods hit a bottleneck in computing performance in case of huge network traffic and complex high-dimensional data. Due to the parallelism, superposition, entanglement of quantum computing, quantum computing provides a new solution to speed up the classical ML algorithms. This paper proposes a novel IDS scheme based on full-rotation quantum convolutional neural network (FR-QCNN). The key component of the FR-QCNN is the quantum convolution filter, which is composed of coding layer, variational layer and measurement layer. Different from the traditional quantum convolutional neural network, a full-rotation quantum circuit is used in the variational layer of the FR-QCNN, realizing a complete parameter update in the model training. Experiment on dataset from KDD Cup shows that the IDS classification accuracy of FR-QCNN is higher than classical ML models such as convolutional neural network (CNN), decision tree (DT) and support vector machine (SVM), as well as higher than traditional quantum convolutional neural network(QCNN). Meanwhile, FR-QCNN and QCNN have lower space complexity and time complexity than classical ML methods.

Symmetry-Protected Topological Phase Classification Using Hybrid Quantum Convolutional Neural Network with Three Quantum Filters

Arun Pandian J, K. Kanchanadevi, Pasupuleti. Sandeep +2 more

In this research, a Hybrid Quantum Convolutional Neural Network (HQCNN) was proposed for Symmetry-Protected Topological (SPT) Phase data Classification. The HQCNN used quantum Convolutional and pooling layers with traditional fully connected networks. The quantum Convolutional (QConv) and quantum pooling (QPool) layers were developed using quantum circuit states. The TensorFlow quantum package was used to add the outcomes of the quantum circuits to dense layers for efficient classification. A different number of quantum filters were used in the HQCNN model and tested. A different number of quantum filters were used in the HQCNN model design. The performance of the HQCNN models with the different number of quantum filters was compared using validation and testing performance. The simulation results showed that the classification accuracy of the proposed HQCNN with Four Quantum Filters (HQCNN-4QF) was superior to other proposed HQCNNs on the SPT phase data Classification. The HQCNN-4QF model achieved the classification accuracy of 99.22 on SPT phase test data.
