Abstract

We investigate a separability criterion based on the computable cross-norm (CCNR), and a related quantity called the CCNR negativity. We introduce a reflected version of the CCNR negativity, and discuss its connection with other well-established entanglement-related quantities, namely the reflected entropy and the operator entanglement entropy. For free fermionic and bosonic theories, we derive exact formulas in terms of two-point correlation functions, which allow for systematic numerical investigations and, in principle, analytical treatments. For systems with a global $U(1)$ symmetry, we study the symmetry-resolved reflected entropy and CCNR negativity. We provide conformal field theory results for the charged moments in the case of adjacent intervals, finding perfect agreement with the numerics. We observe an equipartition of reflected entropies and CCNR negativities, both for free-fermions and free-boson models. The first charge-dependent corrections are conjectured for fermions and worked out from the conformal field theory calculations for bosons.

Symmetry resolution of the computable cross-norm negativity of two disjoint intervals in the massless Dirac field theory

Andrea Bruno, Filiberto Ares, Sara Murciano +1 more

A bstract We investigate how entanglement in the mixed state of a quantum field theory can be described using the cross-computable norm or realignment (CCNR) criterion, employing a recently introduced negativity. We study its symmetry resolution for two disjoint intervals in the ground state of the massless Dirac fermion field theory, extending previous results for the case of adjacent intervals. By applying the replica trick, this problem boils down to computing the charged moments of the realignment matrix. We show that, for two disjoint intervals, they correspond to the partition function of the theory on a torus with a non-contractible charged loop. This confers a great advantage compared to the negativity based on the partial transposition, for which the Riemann surfaces generated by the replica trick have higher genus. This result empowers us to carry out the replica limit, yielding analytic expressions for the symmetry-resolved CCNR negativity. Furthermore, these expressions provide also the symmetry decomposition of other related quantities such as the operator entanglement of the reduced density matrix or the reflected entropy.

2-Rényi CCNR negativity of compact boson for multiple disjoint intervals

Himanshu Gaur

A bstract We investigate mixed-state bipartite entanglement between multiple disjoint intervals using the computable cross-norm criterion (CCNR). We consider entanglement between a single interval and the union of remaining disjoint intervals, and compute 2-Rényi CCNR negativity for a 2d massless compact boson. The expression for 2-Rényi CCNR negativity is given in terms of cross-ratios and Riemann period matrices of Riemann surfaces involved in the calculation. In general, the Riemann surfaces involved in the calculation of n -Rényi CCNR negativity do not possess a Z n symmetry. We also evaluate the reflected Rényi entropy related to the 2-Rényi CCNR negativity. This reflected Rényi entropy is a universal quantity. We extend these calculations to the 2d massless Dirac fermions as well. Finally, the analytical results are checked against the numerical evaluations in the tight-binding model and are found to be in good agreement.

Computable Cross Norm in Tensor Networks and Holography

Alexey Milekhin, Pratik Rath, Wayne W. Weng

The Computable Cross Norm (CCNR) was recently discussed in Ref.~\cite{Yin:2022toc} as a measure of multipartite entanglement in a condensed matter context. In this short note, we point out that it is closely related to the $(2,n)$-Rényi reflected entropy, which has been studied in the context of AdS/CFT. We discuss the calculation of the CCNR in random tensor networks as well as holographic CFTs. The holographic dual involves a backreacted entanglement wedge cross section in a geometry sourced by Rényi-2 cosmic branes. We perform explicit calculations for two intervals in a hyperbolic random tensor network as well the vacuum state of a 2D holographic CFT, and analyze the occurence of a connected-to-disconnected phase transition. The example illustrates the validity of the proposal for analytic continuation in holography for arbitrary values of Rényi parameter $n$. We comment on a symmetry-resolved generalization of this quantity.

Symmetry Resolution of Entanglement Measures in Free Fermionic Systems and Conformal Field Theories

Riccarda Bonsignori

Entanglement and symmetries are two pillars of our understanding of modern Physics, but surprisingly the study of the interplay between these two fundamental concepts has become the subject of an intense research area only in the last few years. In particular, the resolution of entanglement in the various symmetry sectors of a quantum many-body system with a global conserved charge gained a lot of interest within the entanglement community. As shown in some experimental papers, the study of this symmetry resolved entanglement is necessary for a better understanding of the non-equilibrium dynamics of quantum many-body systems. This Thesis is devoted to the study of the symmetry resolution of the entanglement measures in free fermionic systems and Conformal Field Theories. It is organised as follows. In Chap. 1 we give an overview of the main definitions and concepts related to the entanglement and its measures in quantum mechanics and quantum field theory. Then, we specialize to the case of conformal field theories, to derive expressions of the entanglement entropy and negativity in all the cases that will be examined in the second part of the Thesis. We finally illustrate the main free-fermionic techniques that will be used to perform the analytical as well as numerical lattice calculations. In Chap. 2, we consider a $1$-dimensional system of free fermions hopping on a lattice, in which the conserved $U(1)$ charge is the total particle number. We evaluate the symmetry resolved R'enyi and entanglement entropies determining exactly all the non-universal constants and logarithmic corrections to the scaling, thanks to the so-called Fisher-Hartwig conjecture. In Chap. 3, we study the symmetry resolved entanglement entropies in $1$-dimensional systems in presence of boundaries, considering the cases of an interval starting from the boundary and disconnected from it. We evaluate the charged and symmetry resolved entropies for conformal invariant theories and a semi-infinite chain of free fermions, finding entanglement equipartition. Using a generalization of the lattice calculations performed in Chap. 2, we also evaluate the first term breaking equipartition for the free fermionic chain. In Chap. 4, we study the symmetry resolution of the entanglement negativity in free fermionic systems, which admits a decomposition in terms of the charge imbalance between the two subsystems. We use conformal field theory to derive the universal behavior of the charge imbalance resolved negativity for a free Dirac field at finite temperature and size. For the lattice version of the Dirac filed, we also determine exactly the model-dependent terms using the Fisher-Hartwig conjecture. We find that at leading order the charge imbalance resolved negativity verifies equipartition. For the lattice model, we also evaluate the first corrections to this equipartition. In Chap. 5, we study the time evolution of the symmetry resolved entanglement entropy and a suitably defined symmetry resolved mutual information in a system of free fermions after a quench. In the context of free fermions and conformal field theories, we are able to provide analytical results for the time-dependent charged and resolved entropies, and shed light on two new physical phenomena. First, the symmetry resolved R'enyi entropies start evolving with a calculable time delay that depends on the charge sector. Second, there is an effective equipartition of the entanglement in the limit of large subsystem size. For free fermions, we also find that effective equipartition is verified by the mutual information. We expect that these phenomena occur in more general quantum systems, as they can be understood from the quasiparticle picture for the spreading of entanglement. In the Appendix, we give an overview of conformal field theory, reporting the main concepts and formulas that are needed for a more complete understanding of the previous Chapters.

Reflected entropy, symmetries and free fermions

Pablo Bueno, Horacio Casini

A bstract Exploiting the split property of quantum field theories (QFTs), a notion of von Neumann entropy associated to pairs of spatial subregions has been recently proposed both in the holographic context — where it has been argued to be related to the entanglement wedge cross section — and for general QFTs. We argue that the definition of this “reflected entropy” can be canonically generalized in a way which is particularly suitable for orbifold theories — those obtained by restricting the full algebra of operators to those which are neutral under a global symmetry group. This turns out to be given by the full-theory reflected entropy minus an entropy associated to the expectation value of the “twist” operator implementing the symmetry operation. Then we show that the reflected entropy for Gaussian fermion systems can be simply written in terms of correlation functions and we evaluate it numerically for two intervals in the case of a two-dimensional Dirac field as a function of the conformal cross-ratio. Finally, we explain how the aforementioned twist operators can be constructed and we compute the corresponding expectation value and reflected entropy numerically in the case of the ℤ 2 bosonic subalgebra of the Dirac field.
