Abstract

Considering the unique energy level structure of the one-axis twisting Hamiltonian in combination with standard rotations, we propose the implementation of a rapid adiabatic passage scheme on the Dicke state basis. The method permits to drive Dicke states of the many-atom system into entangled states with maximum quantum Fisher information. The designed states allow us to overcome the classical limit of phase sensitivity in quantum metrology and sensing. We show how to generate superpositions of Dicke states, which maximize metrological gain for a Ramsey interferometric measurement. The proposed scheme is remarkably robust to variations of the driving field and has favorable time scaling, especially for a small to moderate (∼1000) number of atoms, where the total time does not depend on the number of atoms.

Optimizing the preparation of Dicke states using counterdiabatic driving methods

Fengzhe Tang, Gangcheng Wang

Recently, the technique of counterdiabatic driving, which provides an effective strategy for accelerating adiabatic quantum evolution, has been widely applied in the preparation of many-body quantum states. In this work, we propose a theoretical scheme for the efficient preparation of Dicke states in a system of non-interacting two-level atoms. Our approach leverages the one-axis twisting (OAT) interaction to generate non-classical correlations and combines it with time-dependent external fields to achieve precise control over the dynamics of the system. By employing rapid adiabatic passage (RAP), it demonstrates how the system can be steered from an initial coherent spin state to a target Dicke state with high fidelity [S. C. Carrasco, M. H. Goerz, S. A. Malinovskaya, V. Vuletić, W. P. Schleich, and V. S. Malinovsky, Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{132}, 153603 (2024)]. To further optimize the preparation process, we introduce counterdiabatic driving (CD), which suppresses non-adiabatic transitions. Numerical simulations confirm that our scheme can achieve high-fidelity Dicke states for a moderate number of particles. Our results provide a scalable and experimentally feasible approach to prepare Dicke states, with potential applications in quantum metrology, quantum communication, and quantum information processing.

Quantum Entanglement Producing and Precision Measurement with Spinor BECs

Zhen Zhang

In this dissertation we focused on some quantum states with strong entanglement and robustness to noise. We constructed a spinor BEC Hamiltonian which has already been realized in experiment with several different kinds of atoms and proposed an adiabatic passage method to produce the maximal entangled Dicke state. We also analyzed the entanglement behavior of the Dicke state under various noises and demonstrate its use in high precision measurement experiment. We introduce a new class of quantum many-particle entangled states, called the Dicke squeezed (or DS) states, which can be used to improve the precision in quantum metrology beyond the standard quantum limit. We show that the enhancement in measurement precision is characterized by a single experimentally detectable parameter, called the Dicke squeezing, which also bounds the entanglement depth for this class of states. The measurement precision approaches the ultimate Heisenberg limit as the Dicke squeezing parameter attains the minimum in an ideal Dicke state. Compared with other entangled states, we show that the Dicke squeezed states are more robust to decoherence and give better measurement precision under typical experimental noise. On the other hand, we explore other choices of precision measurement with spin squeezed states. Spin squeezed states have strong manybody entanglement and are good candidates to be used in quantum metrology. A robust squeezing parameter is proposed to characterize the experimental phase measurement precision for spin squeezed states. The behavior of this parameter under various experimental noises is compared with other parameters in the history and it is shown to have better performance. Finally we present a scalable implementation scheme for Boson sampling using local transverse phonon modes in trapped ion system, which is a promising model for quantum computers.

Dicke superposition probes for noise-resilient Heisenberg and super-Heisenberg Metrology

Sudha, B. N. Karthik, K. S. Akhilesh +1 more

Phase sensing with entangled multi-qubit states in the presence of noise is a central theme of modern quantum metrology. The present work investigates Dicke state superposition probes for quantum phase sensing under parameter encoding generated by one- and two-body interaction Hamiltonians. Under linear collective-spin encoding, near-optimal Dicke superposition states are shown to exhibit significantly enhanced robustness against phase damping noise compared with Greenberger--Horne--Zeilinger (GHZ), W-superposition, and balanced Dicke states, while maintaining favorable metrological performance under realistic decoherence channels. For two-body interactions, optimal probe states maximizing the quantum Fisher information are identified. Their noise resilience and metrological scaling behaviour under phase damping, amplitude damping, and global depolarizing channels are analyzed. The associated near-optimal Dicke superposition states are found to exhibit improved resilience to phase damping, for the system sizes considered. These results establish tailored near-optimal Dicke state superposition probes as versatile and noise-resilient resources for Heisenberg and super-Heisenberg quantum phase sensing governed by one- and two-body interactions.

Extreme Spin Squeezing via Optimized One-Axis Twisting and Rotations

Sebastian Camilo Carrasco, Michael H. Goerz, Zeyang Li +3 more

We propose a scheme for the generation of optimal squeezed states for Ramsey interferometry. The scheme consists of an alternating series of one-axis twisting pulses and rotations, both of which are straightforward to implement experimentally. The resulting states show a metrological gain proportional to the Heisenberg limit. We demonstrate that the Heisenberg scaling is maintained even when placing constraints on the amplitude of the pulses implementing the one-axis twisting and when taking into account realistic losses due to photon scattering.

Speeding up squeezing with a periodically driven Dicke model

J. Reilly, Simon B. Jäger, John Drew Wilson +3 more

We present a simple and effective method to create highly entangled spin states on a faster timescale than that of the commonly employed one-axis twisting (OAT) model. We demonstrate that by periodically driving the Dicke Hamiltonian at a resonance frequency, the system effectively becomes a two-axis countertwisting Hamiltonian, which is known to quickly create Heisenberg limit scaled entangled states. For these states we show that simple quadrature measurements can saturate the ultimate precision limit for parameter estimation determined by the quantum Cramér-Rao bound. An example experimental realization of the periodically driven scheme is discussed with the potential to quickly generate momentum entanglement in a recently described experimental vertical cavity system. We analyze effects of collective dissipation in this vertical cavity system and find that our squeezing protocol can be more robust than the previous realization of OAT. Schrodinger-cat sate generation and generalized Ramsey interferometry

Sebastian Camilo Carrasco, Michael H. Goerz, Zeyang Li +3 more

The Heisenberg limit of quantum measurement where the measurement precision scales as N-1 with the number of atoms N can be achieved by introducing quantum correlations between the atoms. In the present work, we show how to reach Heisenberg scaling by implementing a new Ramsey measurement scheme for cold-atom metrological devices. The proposed protocol consists of a sequence of one-axis twisting pulses and total collective spin rotations. It results in the creation of atomic Schrödinger-cat states, a superposition of two coherent spin states. Analyzing the Fisher information, we discuss the main features of the states and their interferometric precision.
