Abstract

We analyze the set of real and complex Hadamard matrices with additional symmetry constrains. In particular, we link the problem of existence of maximally entangled multipartite states of [Formula: see text] subsystems with [Formula: see text] levels each to the set of complex Hadamard matrices of order [Formula: see text]. To this end, we investigate possible subsets of such matrices which are, dual, strongly dual ([Formula: see text] or [Formula: see text]), two-unitary ([Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] are unitary), or [Formula: see text]-unitary. Here [Formula: see text] denotes reshuffling of a matrix [Formula: see text] describing a bipartite system, and [Formula: see text] its partial transpose. Such matrices find several applications in quantum many-body theory, tensor networks and classification of multipartite quantum entanglement and imply a broad class of analytically solvable quantum models in [Formula: see text] dimensions.

Multipartite states with restricted unitary symmetry

Shu Li, Jie Wang, Binfeng Wang +1 more

We investigate the bipartite and tripartite quantum states invariant under the so-called finite-order unitary matrix U. We show that bipartite states that commute with [Formula: see text] are maximally mixed states. For the unitary matrix V being the finite-order matrix or an exceptional unitary matrix, the tripartite state commuting with [Formula: see text] adopts the form [Formula: see text] with the restriction of [Formula: see text], where [Formula: see text] are real numbers and [Formula: see text] represents the swap operator. These results can be applied to characterize multipartite states restricted by similar unitary symmetry.

Two-unitary complex Hadamard matrices of order 36

Wojciech Bruzda, Karol Życzkowski

Abstract A family of two-unitary complex Hadamard matrices (CHMs) of size 36 stemming from a particular matrix is constructed. Every matrix in this orbit remains unitary after operations of partial transpose and reshuffling which makes it a distinguished subset of CHM. It provides a novel solution to the quantum version of the Euler problem, in which each field of the Graeco-Latin square of size six contains a symmetric superposition of all 36 officers with phases being multiples of sixth root of unity. This simplifies previously known solutions as all amplitudes of the superposition are equal and the set of phases consists of six elements only. Multidimensional parameterization allows for more flexibility in a potential experimental realization.

Structured Unitary Matrices and Quantum Entanglement

Wojciech Bruzda

We explore the set of unitary matrices characterized by a given structure in the context of their applications in the field of Quantum Information. In the first part of the Thesis we focus on classification of special classes of unitary matrices and possibility of introducing certain internal parameterizations. Several new results and conjectures are discussed. Second part of the Thesis is devoted to the concept of multipartite quantum entanglement. We present a solution to the problem of absolutely maximally entangled states of four subsystems with six levels each. Finally, we analyze the excess of a matrix and the corresponding Bell inequalities. This combination allows us to draw new conclusions related to quantum nonlocality.

Diagonal unitary and orthogonal symmetries in quantum theory: II. Evolution operators

Satvik Singh, Ion Nechita

Abstract We study bipartite unitary operators which stay invariant under the local actions of diagonal unitary and orthogonal groups. We investigate structural properties of these operators, arguing that the diagonal symmetry makes them suitable for analytical study. As a first application, we construct large new families of dual unitary gates in arbitrary finite dimensions, which are important toy models for entanglement spreading in quantum circuits. We then analyze the non-local nature of these invariant operators, both in discrete (operator Schmidt rank) and continuous (entangling power) settings. Our scrutiny reveals that these operators can be used to simulate any bipartite unitary gate via stochastic local operations and classical communication. Furthermore, we establish a one-to-one connection between the set of local diagonal unitary invariant dual unitary operators with maximum entangling power and the set of complex Hadamard matrices. Finally, we discuss distinguishability of unitary operators in the setting of the stated diagonal symmetry.

A note on the construction of unextendible maximally entangled bases in ℂd ⊗ ℂd′

Chenghong Wang, Kun Wang

We study the construction of unextendible maximally entangled bases in bipartite systems [Formula: see text] ([Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text]). We provide a class of maximally entangled states in [Formula: see text] by constructing some unitary matrices in [Formula: see text]. In particular, we present two complete unextendible maximally entangled bases in [Formula: see text] which are mutually unbiased.

Genuinely multipartite entangled states and orthogonal arrays

Dardo Goyeneche, Karol Życzkowski

A pure quantum state of $N$ subsystems with $d$ levels each is called $k$-multipartite maximally entangled state, which we call a $k$-uniform state, if all its reductions to $k$ qudits are maximally mixed. These states form a natural generalization of $N$-qudit Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states which belong to the class 1-uniform states. We establish a link between the combinatorial notion of orthogonal arrays and $k$-uniform states and prove the existence of several classes of such states for $N$-qudit systems. In particular, known Hadamard matrices allow us to explicitly construct 2-uniform states for an arbitrary number of $N>5$ qubits. We show that finding a different class of 2-uniform states would imply the Hadamard conjecture, so the full classification of 2-uniform states seems to be currently out of reach. Furthermore, we establish links between the existence of $k$-uniform states and classical and quantum error correction codes and provide a graph representation for such states.

A pure quantum state of NNN subsystems with ddd levels each is called kkk-multipartite maximally entangled state, which we call a kkk-uniform state, if all its reductions to kkk qudits are maximally mixed. These states form a natural generalization of NNN-qudit Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states which belong to the class 1-uniform states. We establish a link between the combinatorial notion of orthogonal arrays and kkk-uniform states and prove the existence of several classes of such states for NNN-qudit systems.
