Abstract

Hyperentanglement, defined as the simultaneous entanglement in several independent degrees of freedom (DOFs) of a quantum system, is a fascinating resource in quantum information processing with its outstanding merits. Here we propose heralded hyperentanglement concentration protocols (hyper-ECPs) to concentrate an unknown partially less polarization-spatial hyperentangled Bell state with available linear optics and common single-photon detectors. By introducing time-delay DOFs, the schemes are highly efficient in that the success of the scheme can be accurately heralded by the detection signatures, and postselection techniques or photon-number-resolving detectors, necessary for previous experiments, are not required. Additionally, our linear optical architectures allow certain states, where concentration fails, to be recyclable, and a trick makes the success probabilities of our schemes higher than those of previous linear optical hyper-ECPs.

Heralded and high-efficient entanglement concentrations based on linear optics assisted by time-delay degree of freedom

Gui‐Long Jiang, Wen‐Qiang Liu, Hai‐Rui Wei

Entanglement concentration is a critical technique to prevent degraded fidelity and security in long-distance quantum communication. We propose novel practical entanglement concentration protocols (ECPs) for less-entangled Bell and Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states with unknown parameters by solely using simple linear optics. We avoid the need for the post-selection principles or photon-number-resolving detectors to identify the parity-check measurement completely by orchestrating auxiliary time degree of freedom, and the success of ECPs is exactly heralded by the detection signatures without destroying the incident qubits. Additionally, the outting incident photons kept are in the maximally entangled or the less-entangled state, and the success probability can be increased by recycling the latter. The heralded and the basic linear optical elements make our practical ECPs are accessible to experimental investigation with current technology.

Heralded high-efficiency entanglement concentration of cluster states for photon systems with linear optics via time-delay effect

Fang‐Fang Du, Linghui Li, Xue‐Mei Ren +3 more

Abstract Entanglement concentration stands as a pivotal technique to safeguard against degraded fidelity in long-distance quantum communication. In this manuscript, propose ultra-efficient entanglement concentration protocols (ECPs) tailored for less-entangled two-photon cluster states and four-photon cluster states with two unknown parameters, leveraging simple linear optical elements and acute single-photon detectors. Additionally, ancillary photons, post-selection techniques, or photon-number-resolving detectors are unnecessary for complete identification of the parity-check measurement. By coordinating auxiliary time degrees of freedom and implementing multiple recycling conditions, the success of two ECPs can be heralded by detection signatures without compromising the incident qubits, thereby allowing their efficiencies to be close to 0.75, in principle. The combination of heralded detection and basic linear optical elements renders our practical ECPs accessible for experimental exploration with current technology.

Entanglement concentration for polarization–spatial–time-bin hyperentangled Bell states

Meiyu Wang, Jingzhou Xu, Fengli Yan +1 more

We present two hyperentangled concentration schemes for two-photon systems in a partially hyperentangled Bell state that is simultaneously entangled in polarization, spatial mode and time-bin degrees of freedom (DOFs). The first scheme extracts a maximally hyperentangled Bell state using cross-Kerr nonlinearity, which is discussed in two cases of unknown and known coefficients. We construct quantum nondemolition detectors based on cross-Kerr nonlinearities to implement the polarization and spatial parity check. In this scheme, we only require a small phase shift, as long as it can be distinguished from zero. The second scheme is used to concentrate an initial partially hyperentangled state with only linear optical elements, where coefficients of the initial state are known. Both of the two schemes are feasible with the current experimental technology. Moreover, hyperentanglement DOFs can largely improve the channel capacity of long-distance quantum communication. All of these make our schemes more practical and useful in quantum communication.

General hyperconcentration of photonic polarization-time-bin hyperentanglement assisted by nitrogen-vacancy centers coupled to resonators

Fang‐Fang Du, Fu‐Guo Deng, Gui‐Lu Long

Entanglement concentration protocol (ECP) is used to extract the maximally entangled states from less entangled pure states. Here we present a general hyperconcentration protocol for two-photon systems in partially hyperentangled Bell states that decay with the interrelation between the time-bin and the polarization degrees of freedom (DOFs), resorting to an input-output process with respect to diamond nitrogen-vacancy centers coupled to resonators. We show that the resource can be utilized sufficiently and the success probability is largely improved by iteration of the hyper-ECP process. Besides, our hyper-ECP can be directly extended to concentrate nonlocal partially hyperentangled N-photon Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states, and the success probability remains unchanged with the growth of the number of photons. Moreover, the time-bin entanglement is a useful DOF and it only requires one path for transmission, which means it not only economizes on a large amount of quantum resources but also relaxes from the path-length dispersion in long-distance quantum communication.

Hyperentanglement concentration of nonlocal two-photon six-qubit systems via the cross-Kerr nonlinearity

Qian Liu, Guo‐Zhu Song, Tianhui Qiu +3 more

We present an efficient hyperentanglement concentration protocol (hyper-ECP) for two-photon six-qubit systems in nonlocal partially hyperentangled Bell states with unknown parameters. In our scheme, we use two identical partially hyperentangled states which are simultaneously entangled in polarization and two different longitudinal momentum degrees of freedom (DOFs) to distill the maximally hyperentangled Bell state. The quantum nondemolition detectors based on the cross-Kerr nonlinearity are used to realize the parity checks of two-photon systems in three DOFs. The hyper-ECP can extract all the useful entanglement source, and the success probability can reach the theory limit with the help of iteration. All these advantages make our hyper-ECP useful in long-distance quantum communication in the future.

Asymmetrical hyperentanglement concentration for entanglement of polarization and orbital angular momentum

Chunyan Li, Yong Shen

We propose two hyperentanglement concentration protocols (hyper-ECPs) for two-photon entangled states in the polarization and orbital angular momentum degrees of freedom. The two cases distilling a maximally hyperentangled state from partially entangled pure state with unknown parameters and known parameters are dissected respectively. Both of the protocols require only linear optical elements which make our protocols more feasible for current technologies. In our protocols, the remote parties perform different local operations, which will reduce everyone's operation and improve the total efficiency. Each of them has the theoretical maximum success probability in the corresponding situation. The hyper-ECPs can be exploited simply to hyperentangled Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states.
