Abstract

Bethe Ansatz equations for spin-s Heisenberg spin chain with s≥1 are significantly more difficult to analyze than the spin-1/2 case, due to the presence of repeated roots. As a result, it is challenging to derive extra conditions for the Bethe roots to be physical and study the related completeness problem. In this paper, we propose the rational Q-system for the XXX _s s spin chain. Solutions of the proposed Q-system give all and only physical solutions of the Bethe Ansatz equations required by completeness. This is checked numerically and proved rigorously. The rational Q-system is equivalent to the requirement that the solution and the corresponding dual solution of the TQ-relation are both polynomials, which we prove rigorously. Based on this analysis, we propose the extra conditions for solutions of the XXX _s s Bethe Ansatz equations to be physical.

Spin-$s$ $Q$-systems: Twist and open boundaries

Yi-Jun He, Jue Hou, Yichao Liu +1 more

In integrable spin chains, the spectral problem can be solved by the method of Bethe Ansatz, which transforms the problem of diagonalization of the Hamiltonian into the problem of solving a set of algebraic equations named Bethe equations. In this work, we systematically investigate the spin- s s XXX chain with twisted and open boundary conditions using the rational Q Q -system, which is a powerful tool to solve Bethe equations. We establish basic frameworks of the rational Q Q -system and confirm its completeness numerically in both cases. For twisted boundaries, we investigate the polynomiality conditions of the rational Q Q -system and derive physical conditions for singular solutions of Bethe equations. For open boundaries, we uncover novel phenomena such as hidden symmetries and boundary induced strings under specific boundary parameters. Hidden symmetries lead to the appearance of extra degeneracies in the Hilbert space, while the boundary induced string is a novel type of exact string configuration, whose length depends on the boundary magnetic fields. These findings, supported by both analytical and numerical evidences, offer new insights into the interplay between symmetries and boundary conditions.

Rational $Q$-systems for integrable spin chains without $U(1)$ symmetry

Yunfeng Jiang, Yichao Liu, Yuan Miao +1 more

The Q Q -system is an efficient method for finding complete physical solutions of Bethe Ansatz equations, but so far its application has been confined to systems possessing U(1) U ( 1 ) symmetry. We extend the rational Q Q -system framework to integrable spin chains without U(1) U ( 1 ) symmetry, exemplified by the closed XXZ model with anti-diagonal twists and the open XXZ model with non-diagonal boundary fields. We demonstrate that the Q Q -system can be derived by combining TQ T Q -relation with fusion relations of higher-spin transfer matrices. This yields QQ Q Q -relations analogous to the U(1) U ( 1 ) symmetric case but incorporating additional inhomogeneous terms. We present numerical solutions that are validated against exact diagonalization, confirming that it generates all and exclusively physical solutions.

Singular solutions, repeated roots and completeness for higher-spin chains

Wenrui Hao, Rafael I. Nepomechie, Andrew John Sommese

We investigate the completeness of the solutions of the Bethe equations for the integrable spin- s isotropic (XXX) spin chain with periodic boundary conditions. Solutions containing the exact string i s , i( s − 1), ..., −i( s − 1), −i s are singular. For s > 1/2, there exist also 'strange' solutions with repeated roots, which nevertheless are physical (i.e., correspond to eigenstates of the Hamiltonian). We derive conditions for the singular solutions and the solutions with repeated roots to be physical. We formulate a conjecture for the number of solutions with pairwise distinct roots in terms of the numbers of singular and strange solutions. Using homotopy continuation, we solve the Bethe equations numerically for s = 1 and s = 3/2 up to eight sites, and find some support for the conjecture. We also present several examples of strange solutions.

Rational Q-systems at root of unity I. Closed chains

Jue Hou, Yunfeng Jiang, Yuan Miao

The solution of Bethe Ansatz equations for XXZ spin chain with the parameter q being a root of unity is infamously subtle. In this work, we develop the rational Q-system for this case, which offers a systematic way to find all physical solutions of the Bethe Ansatz equations at root of unity. The construction contains two parts. In the first part, we impose additional constraints to the rational Q-system. These constraints eliminate the so-called Fabricius-McCoy (FM) string solutions, yielding all primitive solutions. In the second part, we give a simple procedure to construct the descendant tower of any given primitive state. The primitive solutions together with their descendant towers constitute the complete Hilbert space. We test our proposal by extensive numerical checks and apply it to compute the torus partition function of the 6-vertex model at root of unity.

Completeness and Bethe root distribution of the spin-1/2 Heisenberg chain with arbitrary boundary fields

Yuzhu Jiang, Shuai Cui, Cao, Junpeng +2 more

Recently, the XXX spin chain with arbitrary boundary fields was successfully solved [1] via the off-diagonal Bethe ansatz method [2]. The correctness and the completeness of this solution were numerically verified by Nepomechie for one choice of the parameterizations [3]. In this paper, we discuss further the completeness of another parameterization of the Bethe ansatz equations and its reduction to the parallel boundary field case. The numerical results show that when the relative angle between the boundary fields turns to zero, both the T-Q relations and the Bethe ansatz equations are reduced to the ones obtained by the conventional Bethe ansatz methods. This allows us to establish a one-to-one correspondence between the Bethe roots of the unparallel boundary field case and those of the parallel boundary field case. In the thermodynamic limit, those two sets of Bethe roots tend to the same and the contribution of the relative angle to the energy is in the order of 1/N.

Exact quantum numbers of collapsed and non-collapsed two-string solutions in the spin-1/2 Heisenberg spin chain

Tetsuo Deguchi, Pulak Ranjan Giri

Abstract Every solution of the Bethe-ansatz equations (BAEs) is characterized by a set of quantum numbers, by which we can evaluate it numerically. However, no general rule is known how to give quantum numbers for the physical solutions of BAE. For the spin-1/2 XXX chain we rigorously derive all the quantum numbers for the complete set of the Bethe-ansatz eigenvectors in the two down-spin sector with any chain length N . Here we obtain them both for real and complex solutions. We also show that all the solutions associated with them are distinct. Consequently, we prove the completeness of the Bethe ansatz and give an exact expression for the number of real solutions which correspond to collapsed bound-state solutions (i.e., two-string solutions) in the sector: in terms of Gauss’ symbol. Moreover, we prove in the sector the scheme conjectured by Takahashi for solving BAE systematically. We also suggest that by applying the present method we can derive the quantum numbers for the spin-1/2 XXZ chain.
