Abstract

This paper is concerned with the study of properties of the exact solution of the fundamental integrable G2 vertex model. The model R-matrix and respective spin chain are presented in terms of the basis generators of the G2 Lie algebra. This formulation permits us to relate the number of the Bethe roots of the respective Bethe equations with the eigenvalues of the U(1) conserved charges from the Cartan subalgebra of G2. The Bethe equations are solved by a peculiar string structure which combines complex three-strings with real roots allowing us to determine the bulk properties in the thermodynamic limit. We argue that G2 spin chain is gapless but the low-lying excitations have two different speeds of sound and the underlying continuum limit is therefore not strictly Lorentz invariant. We have investigated the finite-size corrections to the ground state energy and proposed that the critical properties of the system should be governed by the product of two c=1 conformal field theories. By combining numerical and analytical methods we have computed the bulk free-energy of the G2 vertex model. We found that there are three regimes in the spectral parameter in which the free-energy is limited and continuous. There exists however at least two sharp corner points in which the bulk-free energy is not differentiable.

Finite-size effects in the integrable XXZ Heisenberg model with arbitrary spin

Holger Frahm, Naichang Yu

The finite-size effects in the spectrum of the integrable XXZ Heisenberg chain with arbitrary spin-S are studied analytically on the basis of the string hypothesis for bound states and numerically by solving the associated Bethe ansatz equations. The finite-size corrections to the spectrum and to the low-temperature behaviour of the free energy are found to be similar to the universal predictions for conformally invariant theories, although the model is, in general, not Lorentz invariant, since it can have an arbitrary number of branches for low-energy excitations with different Fermi velocities depending on the value of S and the anisotropy parameter gamma .

G2 integrable point characterization via isotropic spin-3 chains

Chengshu Li, Victor L. Quito, Dirk Schuricht +1 more

We investigate the physical properties of ${G}_{2}$-symmetric integrable chains with local degrees of freedom in the fundamental representation; given the typical connection between integrability and critical points, we test the model's properties against a hypothesis of conformal-invariant long-distance behavior. Leveraging an embedding between the ${G}_{2}$ exceptional Lie algebra and $\mathrm{SU}(2)$-symmetric chains with local spin-3 representations, we perform numerical analyses via exact diagonalization (ED) targeted at specific spin sectors, as well as via non-Abelian density-matrix renormalization group . A basic study of the momentum-resolved ED spectrum suggests the low-energy system is effectively described by a ${({G}_{2})}_{1}$ Wess-Zumino-Witten (WZW) theory, but we find challenges in further numerical characterization of conformal data. The study and control of the phenomenology of this model may have implications for the development of accessible models for Fibonacci anyons.

Integrable vertex models and extended conformal invariance

Hector J. de Vega

Transfer matrix eigenvalues are exactly computed for large but finite size for a general class of q-state vertex models (q different states per bond, 2<or=q) from their nested Bethe ansatz equations. The conformal dimensions here obtained vary continuously as functions of the anisotropy parameter and express nicely in terms of the Cartan matrix of the underlying Lie algebra. They indicate the presence of an extended conformal invariance.

The spectrum of a vertex model and related spin one chain sitting in a genus five curve

Marcio Jose Martins

We derive the transfer matrix eigenvalues of a three-state vertex model whose weights are based on a R-matrix not of difference form with spectral parameters lying on a genus five curve. We have shown that the basic building blocks for both the transfer matrix eigenvalues and Bethe equations can be expressed in terms of meromorphic functions on an elliptic curve. We discuss the properties of an underlying spin one chain originated from a particular choice of the R-matrix second spectral parameter. We present numerical and analytical evidences that the respective low-energy excitations can be gapped or massless depending on the strength of the interaction coupling. In the massive phase we provide analytical and numerical evidences in favor of an exact expression for the lowest energy gap. We point out that the critical point separating these two distinct physical regimes coincides with the one in which the weights geometry degenerate into union of genus one curves.

Phase diagram and spectral properties of a new exactly integrable spin-1 quantum chain

Francisco Castilho Alcaraz, Gilberto M Nakamura

The spectral properties and phase diagram of the exact integrable spin one quantum chain introduced by Alcaraz and Bariev are presented. The model has a U(1) symmetry and its integrability is associated to an unknown R-matrix whose dependence on the spectral parameters is not of difference form. The associated Bethe ansatz equations, that fix the eigenspectra, are distinct from those associated to other known integrable spin models. The model has a free parameter $t_p$. We show that at the special point $t_p=1$ the model gets an extra U(1) symmetry and reduces to the deformed SU(3) Perk-Schultz model at a special value of its anisotropy $q=\exp(i2π/3)$ andin the presence of an external magnetic field. Our analysis is done either by solving the associated Bethe-ansatz equations or by direct diagonalization of thequantum Hamiltonian for small lattice sizes. The phase diagram is calculated by exploring the consequences of conformal invariance on the finite-size corrections of the Hamiltonian eigenspectrum. The model exhibits a critical phase ruled by $c=1$ conformal field theory separated from a massive phase by first-order phase transitions.

Spin chains and vertex models based on superalgebras

Konstantin Hobuß

The thermodynamic limit of superspin chains can show several intriguing properties, including the emergence of continua of scaling dimensions and the appearance of discrete states when imposing toroidal boundary conditions. Nevertheless, the former’s exhaustive characterization in terms of Conformal Field Theories is still lacking. In order to study the thermodynamic limit of the U_q[sl(2|1)] 3 ⊗ 3̄ superspin chain in the antiferromagnetic regime, we analyze the low lying excitations by means of the model’s exact solution using the Algebraic Bethe Ansatz. In the isotropic limit, this model may be used as a toy model for the description of plateau transitions in Quantum Hall systems. The definition of a quasimomentum operator allows for a characterization of the continua of scaling dimensions, thereby giving rise to a quantum number for the corresponding non-compact component of the spectrum in the thermodynamic limit. The associated degeneracies are lifted on the lattice by logarithmic fine structures. Based on the extrapolation of our finite size data we find that under a variation of the boundary conditions from periodic to antiperiodic for the fermionic degrees of freedom, levels from the continuous part of the spectrum flow into discrete levels and vice versa. Investigating the thermodynamic limit of the q-deformed osp(3|2) superspin chain, corresponding to an intersecting loop model in the rational limit, we seek to uncover its low-lying critical exponents. We present evidences that the latter are built in terms of composites of anomalous dimensions of two Coulomb gases with distinct radii and exponents associated to Z(2) degrees of freedom. This view is supported by the fact that the S = 1 XXZ integrable chain spectrum is present in some of the sectors of the superspin chain at a particular value of the deformation parameter. We find that the fine structure of finite-size effects is very rich for a typical anisotropic spin chain. In fact, we argue on the existence of a family of states with the same conformal dimension whose lattice degeneracies are lifted by logarithmic corrections. On the other hand, we also report on states of the spectrum whose finite-size corrections seem to be governed by a power law behaviour. We finally observe that under toroidal boundary conditions the ground state dependence on the twist angle has two distinct analytical structures.
