Abstract

Recently, there has been increasing awareness of the tremendous opportunities inherent in quantum computing (QC). Specifically, the speed and efficiency of QC will significantly impact the Internet of Things, cryptography, finance, and marketing. Accordingly, there has been increased QC research funding from national and regional governments and private firms. However, critical concerns regarding legal, political, and business-related policies germane to QC adoption exist. A few relevant studies are currently available, and those few focus heavily on the technical side of QC. Thus, this study offers a multidisciplinary review of QC, drawing on the expertise of scholars from a wide range of disciplines whose insights coalesce into a framework that simplifies the understanding of QC. This study offers a timely contribution to both practitioners and academia, as it explores use cases in business, addresses fundamental legal and political issues undermining QC’s adoption, and highlights several research gaps critical to advancing knowledge within the field.

Leveraging quantum computing business applications: a B-SLR approach and future research directions

Gaurav Sarin, Yogendra Sai Reddy, Manya Sarin

Abstract Quantum computing (QC) advances will help solve high complexity challenges that classical system architectures cannot solve. This report examines the philosophical foundation for QC research using a PRISMA-compliant systematic literature review and bibliometric analysis. This review emphasizes business applications of QC, including optimization, cryptography and cybersecurity, machine learning, financial modeling and forecasting, supply chain management, healthcare and analytics, and materials design, showing how QC can improve prediction and forecast accuracy, data physicalness, large-scale optimization, and more. The research will also identify execution constraints such hardware readiness, qubit capacity, development and operation expenses, personnel availability, and regulatory and commercial governance. Bibliometric data showed a focus on foundational quantum theoretical contributions and algorithms, with multidisciplinary and practical work emerging. Scaled algorithms, quantum-resistant standards, and any solutions industry nexus to enterprise are among the research opportunities. The literature evaluation will also identify ethical, policy, and sustainability issues related to quantum benefits. The paper helps businesspeople understand QC’s current and future opportunities, including a research-based assessment of where we’ve come, common themes in the literature, and strategic domains for scaling QC as a research agenda from laboratory experiments to enriching the service experience as commercial utility.

Quantum Computing Regulation: a Global Perspective on Balancing Innovation and Security

Abdikhakimov Islombek Bahodir ugli

The rapid advancement of quantum computing technology presents unprecedented opportunities and challenges for global governance. This comprehensive study examines the current landscape of international quantum computing regulation, exploring the delicate balance between fostering innovation and addressing security concerns. Through a mixed-methods approach, including policy analysis, expert interviews, and case studies of key countries and regions, we identify significant fragmentation in regulatory approaches, a pressing need for standardization, and ethical considerations that demand immediate attention. Our findings reveal strong stakeholder support for international cooperation, despite geopolitical tensions, and highlight the risk of a growing "quantum divide" between nations. Based on these insights, we propose a series of recommendations, including the establishment of an International Quantum Governance Forum, the adoption of a risk-based adaptive regulatory framework, and the implementation of a Global Quantum Literacy Initiative. This research contributes to the ongoing dialogue on quantum technology governance and provides a roadmap for policymakers, researchers, and industry leaders to navigate the complexities of regulating this transformative technology. By addressing these challenges proactively, we can harness the full potential of quantum computing while mitigating its risks, ultimately shaping a quantum future that benefits all of humanity.

Quantum Computing Review: A Decade of Research

Sandeep K. Sood, Pooja

Quantum computing (QC) has the potential to be the next abstruse technology, with a wide range of possible applications and ramifications for organizations and markets. QC provides an exponential speedup by employing quantum mechanics principles, including superposition and entanglement. The potential advantages offered by the revolutionary paradigm have propelled scientific productions. Therefore, a highly pertinent investigation is required to elucidate the evolution of path-breaking trajectories for scientific advances. This study confronts the idea by presenting a scientometric analysis for the recent decade of literature collected from the Web of Science database in the computer science discipline. The scientometric implications of the article identify the significant research domains and provide an intensive insight into the publication patterns, country collaboration, geographical analysis, citation patterns, eminent journals, and research frontiers of each domain of QC. The scholarly literature analysis identifies key challenges in the QC knowledge domain. Overall, the inference reveals an evolutionary pathway for future research directives and collaboration in the domains of QC research. The research findings provide innovative significance to information scientists by presenting a comprehensive overview of QC research to help them find relevant applications, research topics, and key challenges.

Quantum computing is one of the remarkable achievements jousting on the coalesced power of quantum mechanics and information theory to bring innovative paradigm shift in computational regime. It possesses potential to solve computationally complex problems in real-time which were otherwise considered intractable in traditional computer science. The nascent field, originated during the early 1980's, has now revolutionarised the global technological reign by fetching the attention of every government and corporate across the world. Despite huge fund infusions, research advancements, and policy supports, the ideal potential has yet not been realised. This chapter intends to study the ontology of quantum computers to understand its astonishing journey—based on underlying mathematical, scientific principles, technical issues, challenges, and variants—for paving a way for future direction of research. The study is anticipated to come out with the essential research elements required to formulate the hypothesis and address research issues in this field.

Impact of quantum computing on organizations and their technological infrastructure

Diego León Betancur Pérez, Anny Carolina Betancur Taborda, Leydi Johanna Henao Tamayo

This article investigates the impact of quantum computing (QC) as an emerging technology with the potential to benefit businesses and their technological infrastructure. The main objective is to describe the challenges organizations face when adopting it, as well as the opportunities it offers in increasingly competitive and strategically complex markets driven by exponential growth. The study also identified that, while quantum computing promises to revolutionize areas such as resource optimization, productivity efficiency, and the simulation of future scenarios—enabling better-informed decision-making and risk mitigation—its implementation encounters significant obstacles: high costs, the need for specialized talent, and new security risks. To address these barriers, hybrid models combining cloud and local infrastructure, as well as microservices, have emerged as practical alternatives, enabling organizations to access this technology without requiring substantial initial investment. Ultimately, this research contributes to the academic discussion that quantum computing is not a replacement but rather a complement that can be integrated gradually and carefully. The path forward requires efforts in education and policy to ensure accessible and ethical development, preventing it from becoming a tool reserved for only a few.
