Conventional quantum phase transition driven by a complex parameter in a non-Hermitian PT−symmetric Ising model

C. Li, Gang Zhang, X. Z. Zhang +1 more

A conventional quantum phase transition (QPT) can be accessed by varying a real parameter at absolute zero temperature. Motivated by the discovery of the pseudo-Hermiticity of non-Hermitian systems, we explore the QPT in the non-Hermitian $\mathcal{PT}\ensuremath{-}\mathrm{symmetric}$ Ising model, which is driven by a staggered complex transverse field. Exact solution shows that the Laplacian of the ground-state energy density, with respect to real and imaginary components of the transverse field, diverges on the boundary in the complex plane. The phase diagram indicates that the imaginary transverse field has the effect of shrinking the paramagnetic phase. In addition, we also investigate the connection between the geometric phase and the QPT.

Longitudinal-Field-Driven Transition in a non-integrable Non-Hermitian Transverse-Field Ising Chain via RBMs

M. E. Ateuafack, M. R. Kamsap, J. T. Diffo +2 more

We investigate the ground-state properties and quantum critical behavior of a non-Hermitian transverse-field Ising chain subjected to longitudinal and complex transverse magnetic fields. To address this interacting many-body problem, we employ real-valued neural quantum states based on Restricted Boltzmann Machines (RBMs), optimized using Variational Monte Carlo (VMC) sampling. Spectral analysis of finite chains reveals exceptional points associated with spontaneous parity-time (PT) symmetry breaking. A real-valued RBM framework is developed to reconstruct the ground-state eigenstates of the non-Hermitian Hamiltonian. Benchmark comparisons with exact diagonalization demonstrate that the RBM approach accurately reproduces the ground-state energy, magnetization, and spin-spin correlations. Extending the analysis to larger system sizes, we identify a non-Hermitian quantum phase transition characterized by PT-symmetry breaking and the emergence of magnetic order. Our results establish real-valued neural quantum states as an efficient and scalable framework for investigating critical phenomena in interacting non-Hermitian quantum systems.

Ground-state and thermal entanglements in a non-Hermitian XY system with real and imaginary magnetic fields

Yue Li, Zhang, Pan-Pan, Li-Zhen Hu +2 more

In this manuscript, we study the non-Hermitian spin-1/2 XY model in the presence of the alternating, imaginary and transverse magnetic fields. For the two-site spin system, we solve exactly the energy spectrum and phase diagram, also calculate the ground-state and thermal entanglements by using the concept of the concurrence. It is found that the two-site concurrence in the eigenstate which only depends on the imaginary magnetic field η is always equal to one in the region of PT symmetry, while it decreases with η in the PT-symmetric broken region. Especially, the concurrence shows the non-analytic behavior at the exceptional point, and the same is true in the case of the biorthogonal basis, which indicates that the concurrence can characterize the phase transition in this non-Hermitian system. The interesting thing is that η weakens the thermal entanglement when the system is isotropic and enhances the entanglement when the system becomes the Ising model. For the one-dimensional spin chain, the magnetization and entanglement are further studied by using the two-spin cluster mean-field approximation. The results show that their variations have opposite trends with the magnetic fields. Moreover, the system exists the first-order quantum phase transitions for some anisotropic parameters in the PT-symmetry region, and the entanglement changes suddenly at the quantum phase transition point.

Dynamical spin-nematic correlation in a transverse field Ising chain with non-Hermitian Gamma interaction

Yu-Hong Yan, Ran Wang, Kun-Liang Zhang

We investigate the effect of non-Hermitian Gamma interaction on the phase transitions and magnetic correlations for the transverse field Ising chain. We demonstrate that apart from the gapped antiferromagnetic and paramagnetic phases, there is a gapless phase induced by parity-time symmetry breaking, where the system exhibits long-range and short-range spin-nematic correlations in different regions divided by the quantum critical line determined from the correlation function and the subsystem entanglement entropy. Furthermore, we reveal that the parity-time symmetry breaking leads to the emergence of dynamical spin-nematic correlation, which also suggests a way of characterizing the spin-nematic map through non-equilibrium dynamics. Our findings show rich quantum phases stem from the competition among the Ising interaction, transverse field and non-Hermitian Gamma interaction, as well as providing a scheme for generating spin-nematic correlation in the spin chain.
