Intramode-correlation–enhanced simultaneous multiparameter-estimation precision

Shoukang Chang, Wei Ye, Xuan Rao +8 more

The multiparameter estimation in quantum metrology is significant for a large number of applications for quantum information tasks. Nevertheless, how mode correlations affect the multiparameter-estimation precision with and without photon-loss cases remains ambiguous. For this reason, here, we present the relationship between the quantum Cram\'er-Rao bound and the mode correlations in the framework of the simultaneous two-phase estimation for a three-mode Mach-Zehnder interferometer induced by the tritter which is composed of three cascaded beam splitters and phase shifters. By choosing different input resources, including a two-mode squeezed vacuum state $\ensuremath{\bigotimes}$ a coherent state (scheme I) and a twin squeezed vacuum state $\ensuremath{\bigotimes}$ a coherent state (scheme II), the results show that compared with scheme II, scheme I shows a better estimation performance even in the presence of photon losses. The reason may be that the intramode correlation of the probe state for scheme I is stronger than that for scheme II, while the intermode correlation of the probe state for the former is weaker than that for the latter. This allow us to open vital perspectives on the essence of enhanced multiparameter-estimation precision.

Toward incompatible quantum limits on multiparameter estimation

Binke Xia, Jingzheng Huang, Hongjing Li +2 more

Achieving the ultimate precisions for multiple parameters simultaneously is an outstanding challenge in quantum physics, because the optimal measurements for incompatible parameters cannot be performed jointly due to the Heisenberg uncertainty principle. In this work, a criterion proposed for multiparameter estimation provides a possible way to beat this curse. According to this criterion, it is possible to mitigate the influence of incompatibility meanwhile improve the ultimate precisions by increasing the variances of the parameter generators simultaneously. For demonstration, a scheme involving high-order Hermite-Gaussian states as probes is proposed for estimating the spatial displacement and angular tilt of light at the same time, and precisions up to 1.45 nm and 4.08 nrad are achieved in experiment simultaneously. Consequently, our findings provide a deeper insight into the role of Heisenberg uncertainty principle in multiparameter estimation, and contribute in several ways to the applications of quantum metrology.

Heisenberg-scaling angular displacement estimation with tunable squeezed Bell states

Jiandong Zhang, Zijing Zhang, Longzhu Cen +2 more

Abstract Precise angular displacement estimation provides a route to correct the measurement bases of two parties in quantum teleportation. In this paper, we propose an angular momentum-enhanced estimation protocol deploying tunable squeezed Bell states and parity detection. The Heisenberg-scaling sensitivity and 2 ℓ + 1 -fold super-resolved oscillating fringes with quantum number ℓ are reachable in our protocol. We analyze the effect of tunable factor on sensitivity, and the advantages originating from spin and orbital angular momenta are also discussed.
