Quantum quenches in the sinh-Gordon and Lieb–Liniger models

Abstract

Abstract The non-relativistic limit of integrable field theories at equilibrium has been intensively studied in the previous years; the simplest non-trivial case relates the sinh-Gordon model to the Lieb–Liniger model (LLM). Here we study this non-relativistic limit out of equilibrium, namely in the time evolution after a quantum quench. The obtained results agree with the known ones for the LLM, thus showing that the non-relativistic limit is applicable in this out-of-equilibrium setting.

Quantum quenches in the sinh-Gordon model: steady state and one-point correlation functions

Bruno Bertini, Lorenzo Piroli, Pasquale Calabrese

Abstract. We consider quantum quenches to the sinh-Gordon integrable quantum field theory from a particular class of initial states. Our analysis includes the case of mass and interaction quenches starting from a non-interacting theory. By means of the recently developed quench action method, we fully characterize the stationary state reached at long times after the quench in terms of the corresponding rapidity distribution. We also provide exact results for the expectation values of arbitrary vertex operators in the post-quench stationary state by proposing a formula based on the analogy with the standard thermodynamic Bethe ansatz. Finally, we comment on the behavior of the post-quench stationary state under the mapping between the sinh-Gordon field theory and the one-dimensional Lieb–Liniger model.

Expectation Values of Local Fields in an Integrable Theory after a Quantum Quench

Giuseppe Mussardo

The expectation values of local fields of any interacting quantum theory after a quench process are key quantities for matching theoretical and experimental results. For quantum integrable field theories, we argue that they can be obtained by a generalization of the Leclair-Mussardo formula and a Bethe Ansatz result of Caux and Konik. Specializing to the Sinh-Gordon model and taking the non-relativistic limit, one can recover the results of Kormos et al. for the Lieb-Liniger model.

Non relativistic limit of integrable QFT and Lieb–Liniger models

Alvise Bastianello, Andrea De Luca, Giuseppe Mussardo

Abstract In this paper we study a suitable limit of integrable QFT with the aim to identify continuous non-relativistic integrable models with local interactions. This limit amounts to sending to infinity the speed of light c but simultaneously adjusting the coupling constant g of the quantum field theories in such a way to keep finite the energies of the various excitations. The QFT considered here are Toda field theories and the O ( N ) non-linear sigma model. In both cases the resulting non-relativistic integrable models consist only of Lieb–Liniger models, which are fully decoupled for the Toda theories while symmetrically coupled for the O ( N ) model. These examples provide explicit evidence of the universality and ubiquity of the Lieb–Liniger models and, at the same time, suggest that these models may exhaust the list of possible non-relativistic integrable theories of bosonic particles with local interactions.

Quantum quenches in 1D Bose Gases: Glimmers of Quantum KAM

Robert Konik, Giuseppe Piero Brandino, Jean-Sébastien Caux

Using a numerical renormalization group based on exploiting an underlying exactly solvable non-relativistic theory, we study the out-of-equilibrium dynamics of a 1D Bose gas (as described by the Lieb-Liniger model) released from a parabolic trap into a weak cosine potential. The presence of the cosine potential breaks integrability and leads the formerly conserved charges of Lieb-Liniger to be time dependent. We however argue that from these charges we are able to construct approximately conserved quantities despite the presence of the cosine term. How good the time invariance of these quasi-conserved quantities is can be related to the strength of the post-quench cosine potential and the width of this perturbation in Fourier space. This gives then an analog in a quantum example to the classical KAM theorem.

Non-Equilibrium Steady State of the Lieb-Liniger model: exact treatment of the Tonks Girardeau limit

Spyros Sotiriadis

Aiming at studying the emergence of Non-Equilibrium Steady States (NESS) in quantum integrable models by means of an exact analytical method, we focus on the Tonks-Girardeau or hard-core boson limit of the Lieb-Liniger model. We consider the abrupt expansion of a gas from one half to the entire confining box, a prototypical case of inhomogeneous quench, also known as "geometric quench". Based on the exact calculation of quench overlaps, we develop an analytical method for the derivation of the NESS by rigorously treating the thermodynamic and large time and distance limit. Our method is based on complex analysis tools for the derivation of the asymptotics of the many-body wavefunction, does not make essential use of the effectively non-interacting character of the hard-core boson gas and is sufficiently robust for generalisation to the genuinely interacting case.

Non relativistic limit of integrable QFT with fermionic excitations

Alvise Bastianello, Andrea De Luca, Giuseppe Mussardo

Abstract The aim of this paper is to investigate the non-relativistic limit of integrable quantum field theories with fermionic fields, such as the O ( N ) Gross–Neveu model, the supersymmetric Sinh–Gordon and non-linear sigma models. The non-relativistic limit of these theories is implemented by a double scaling limit which consists of sending the speed of light c to infinity and rescaling at the same time the relevant coupling constant of the model in such a way to have finite energy excitations. For the general purpose of mapping the space of continuous non-relativistic integrable models, this paper completes and integrates the analysis done in Bastianello A et al (2016 J. Stat. Mech . 123104) on the non-relativistic limit of purely bosonic theories.
