Abstract

We present the numerical results of the structure and dynamics of the self-bound ground state arising solely because of the presence of beyond-mean-field quantum fluctuation in spin-orbit- (SO-) coupled binary Bose-Einstein condensates in one dimension. We obtain an analytical soliton solution for nonzero SO coupling that matches quite well with the numerical results. Further, we investigate the dynamical stability of these solitons by adopting three protocols, such as (i) adding initial velocity to each component, (ii) quenching the SO- and Rabi-coupling parameters at initial and finite time, and (iii) allowing collision between the two spin components by giving equal and opposite direction velocity to them. For small velocity perturbation, the soliton has the presence of the breathing oscillation, while large velocity perturbations transform the soliton into moving solitons. The maximum breathing frequency exhibits power-law dependence on the Rabi-coupling frequency with an exponent $\ensuremath{\sim}0.16$. The quenching of SO and Rabi couplings results in several interesting dynamical features, such as dynamical phase transition from plane to stripe phase, dynamical flipping of the spin state, and secondary solitonic modes. In the absence of the SO and Rabi couplings, depending upon the velocity of the up- and down-spin components, the collision between them is either elastic or inelastic, which is consistent with the earlier numerical and experimental observations. However, in the presence of coupling parameters, the collision appears to be inelastic and quasielastic in nature.

Exploring the role of beyond mean-field interaction in the structure and dynamics of one-dimensional quantum droplets

Sonali Gangwar, Rajamanickam Ravisankar, Paulsamy Muruganandam +1 more

Abstract We present simulation results of the ground state structure and dynamics of quantum droplets (QDs) in one-dimensional spin–orbit coupled binary Bose–Einstein condensates. We have considered two cases for this analysis, such as (i) the mean-field term has a vanishingly small contribution utilizing the equal and opposite inter- and intraspecies interactions and (ii) unequal inter- and intraspecies interactions. The QD exhibits remarkably different natures in each case. In the former case, it exhibits a bright sech-like droplet nature, while in the latter case, we find the flattened sech-like shape of the droplet. Further, we analyze the effect of velocity perturbation on the dynamics in both cases. For the first case, we find a systematic change from the solitonic droplet nature to the breathing droplet, which finally has a moving droplet feature upon increasing the velocity. However, the second case shows similar dynamics except having more dynamically stable features than the first. Finally, we present various dynamics that ensued in the QD due to the quenching of the interaction parameters, coupling parameters or allowing the droplet to undergo collisions.

Quantum solitons in spin-orbit-coupled Bose-Bose mixtures

Andrea Tononi, Yueming Wang, Luca Salasnich

Recent experimental and theoretical results show that weakly interacting atomic Bose-Bose mixtures with attractive interspecies interaction are stabilized by beyond-mean-field effects. Here we consider the peculiar properties of these systems in a strictly one-dimensional configuration, taking also into account the nontrivial role of spin-orbit and Rabi couplings. We show that when the value of inter- and intraspecies interaction strengths are such that mean-field contributions to the energy cancel, a self-bound bright soliton fully governed by quantum fluctuations exists. We derive the phase diagram of the phase transition between a single-peak soliton and a multipeak (striped) soliton, produced by the interplay between spin-orbit, Rabi couplings and beyond-mean-field effects, which also affect the breathing mode frequency of the atomic cloud. Finally, we prove that a phase imprinting of the single-peak soliton leads to a self-confined propagating solitary wave even in the presence of spin-orbit coupling.

Phase transitions and dynamics of one-dimensional solitons in spin-orbit-coupled Bose-Bose mixtures

We investigate the formation, stability, and dynamics of solitons in a one-dimensional binary Bose-Einstein condensate under the action of the spin-orbit-coupling and Lee-Huang-Yang (LHY) correction to the underlying system of the Gross-Pitaevskii equations. We identify the semi-dipole (SD) family of solitons and thoroughly analyze its properties. The numerical analysis reveals intricate bifurcations, including transitions from real to complex-valued stationary wave functions of the SD solitons and norm-dependent dynamical instabilities. Stability maps in the plane of the solitons' norm and interaction strength exhibit areas of monostability, oscillatory behavior, and soliton splitting. Solitons with complex stationary wave functions emerge as ground states in broad parameter areas due to the effects of the LHY terms. The other soliton species, in the form of mixed modes (MMs), do not feature the compexification bifurcation. In the LHY-dominated regime, the SD and MM solitons exhibit identical values of the energy for the same norm. The results deepen the understanding of nonlinear matter-wave states and reveal multistable ones in quantum gases.

Stability and dynamics of dark–bright solitons in spin–orbit and Rabi-coupled binary Bose–Einstein condensates

K. Rajaswathi, Rajamanickam Ravisankar, R. Radha +2 more

Abstract We investigate the stability and nonlinear dynamics of dark–bright (DB) solitons in a one-dimensional binary Bose–Einstein condensate subjected to synthetic spin–orbit(SO) and Rabi couplings. In the absence of SO coupling, we map the coupled Gross–Pitaevskii equations onto the integrable Manakov model to obtain exact DB soliton solutions, providing a rigorous theoretical benchmark. We demonstrate that finite SO coupling breaks integrability by inducing spin-dependent phase gradients that drive component-wise spatial separation and intrinsic density oscillations. By contrast, coherent Rabi driving enforces phase locking between spin components and supports robust breather-like excitations. Furthermore, we derive analytical continuity relations for mass and spin current densities, mapping the internal spin dynamics onto an internal Josephson-junction framework in which the gauge field acts as a continuous spatial momentum bias. Using imaginary-time propagation together with Bogoliubov–de Gennes analysis, we systematically characterise ground-state phases and excitation spectra for both symmetric and asymmetric interaction regimes in homogeneous and harmonically trapped systems. Real-time simulations further demonstrate that synthetic gauge fields and interaction quenches drive the system far from equilibrium, triggering modulational-instability-induced multi-soliton fragmentation, breathing stripe patterns, and non-equilibrium transport. Our results highlight the interplay of synthetic gauge fields, external confinement, and interaction engineering as powerful tools for controlling the stability and internal dynamics of multicomponent quantum fluids.

Scattering of solitons in binary Bose-Einstein condensates with spin-orbit and Rabi couplings

Rafael M. P. Teixeira, Wesley Bueno Cardoso

In this paper we study the scattering of solitons in a binary Bose-Einstein Condensate (BEC) including SO- and Rabi-couplings. To this end, we derive a reduced ODE model in view to provide a variational description of the collisional dynamics. Also, we assume negative intra- and inter-component interaction strengths, such that one obtains localized solutions even in absence of external potentials. By performing extensive numerical simulations of this model we observe that, for specific conditions, the final propagation velocity of the scattered solitons could be highly sensitive to small changes in the initial conditions, being a possible signature of chaos. Additionally, there are infinitely many intervals of regularity emerging from the obtained chaotic-like regions and forming a fractal-like structure of reflection/transmission windows. Finally, we investigate how the value of the spin-orbit coupling strength changes the critical velocities, which are minimum/maximum values for the occurrence of solitons bound-states, as well as the fractal-like structure.

Vortex-bright solitons in a spin-orbit-coupled spin-1 condensate

Sandeep Gautam, Sadhan K. Adhikari

We study the vortex-bright solitons in a quasi-two-dimensional spin-orbit-coupled (SO-coupled) hyperfine spin-1 three-component Bose-Einstein condensate using variational method and numerical solution of a mean-field model. The ground state of these vortex-bright solitons is radially symmetric for weak ferromagnetic and polar interactions. For a sufficiently strong ferromagnetic interaction, we observe the emergence of an asymmetric vortex-bright soliton as the ground state. We also numerically investigate stable moving solitons and binary collision between them. The present mean-field model is not Galilean invariant, and we use a Galilean-transformed model for generating the moving solitons. At low velocities, the head-on collision between two in-phase solitons results either in collapse or fusion of the soliton pair. On the other hand, in head-on collision, the two out-of-phase solitons strongly repel each other and trace back their trajectories before the actual collision. At low velocities, in a collision with an impact parameter, the out-of-phase solitons get deflected from their original trajectory like two rigid classical disks. These out-of-phase solitons behave like classical disks, and their collision dynamics is governed by classical laws of motion. However, at large velocities two SO-coupled spinor solitons, irrespective of phase difference, can pass through each other in a head-on collision like two quantum solitons.
