Abstract

We discuss the geometric aspects of a recently described unfolding procedure and show the form of objects relevant in the field of quantum information geometry in the unfolding space. In particular, we show the form of the quantum monotone metric tensors characterized by Petz and retrace in this unfolded perspective a recently introduced procedure of extracting a covariant tensor from a relative g-entropy.

Monotone metric tensors in quantum information geometry

In this paper, we review some geometrical aspects pertaining to the world of monotone quantum metrics in finite dimensions. Particular emphasis is given to an unfolded perspective for quantum states that is built out of the spectral theorem and is naturally suited to investigate the comparison with the classical case of probability distributions.

Quantum Information in Geometric Quantum Mechanics

G. F. Volkert

A fundamental starting point in quantum information theory is the consideration of the von Neumann entropy and its generalization to relative quantum entropies. A particular feature of quantum relative entropies is their relation via their Hessian to monotonic Riemannian metrics on the dense set of invertible mixed quantum states (Lesniewski and Ruskai 1999). These metrics are also known as quantum Fisher information metrics and provide a direct link to quantum estimation theory (Helstrom 1969). Quantum Fisher information metrics which are extendable to pure states coincide all with the Fubini Study metric of the projective Hilbert space of complex rays. This theses outlines possible advantages of an inverse approach to quantum information theory, by starting with the Fubini Study metric rather then with the von Neumann entropy. This is done in a first step by associating to the Fubini Study metric a covariant and a contra-variant structure on the punctured Hilbert space as being available in the geometric formulation of quantum mechanics. While the contra-variant structure leads to a quantum version of the Cramér-Rao inequality for general 1-dimensional submanifolds of pure states, the covariant structure provides alternative entanglement monotones by identifying an inner product on the pullback tensor fields on local unitary group orbits of quantum states. It is shown in the case of two qubits that these monotones yield a more efficient estimation of entanglement than standard measures from the literature as those associated with the linearization of the von Neumann entropy.

Geometry from divergence functions and complex structures

Florio M. Ciaglia, Fabio Di Cosmo, Armando Figueroa +2 more

Motivated by the geometrical structures of quantum mechanics, we introduce an almost complex structure [Formula: see text] on the product [Formula: see text] of any parallelizable statistical manifold [Formula: see text]. Then, we use [Formula: see text] to extract a pre-symplectic form and a metric-like tensor on [Formula: see text] from a divergence function. These tensors may be pulled back to [Formula: see text], and we compute them in the case of an N-dimensional symplex with respect to the Kullback–Leibler relative entropy, and in the case of (a suitable unfolding space of) the manifold of faithful density operators with respect to the von Neumann–Umegaki relative entropy.

From Geometric Quantum Mechanics to Quantum Information

Paolo Aniello, Jesús Clemente-Gallardo, Giuseppe Marmo +1 more

We consider the geometrization of quantum mechanics. We then focus on the pull-back of the Fubini-Study metric tensor field from the projective Hibert space to the orbits of the local unitary groups. An inner product on these tensor fields allows us to obtain functions which are invariant under the considered local unitary groups. This procedure paves the way to an algorithmic approach to the identification of entanglement monotone candidates. Finally, a link between the Fubini-Study metric and a quantum version of the Fisher information metric is discussed.

Fisher metric, geometric entanglement, and spin networks

Goffredo Chirco, Fabio M. Mele, Daniele Oriti +1 more

Starting from recent results on the geometric formulation of quantum mechanics, we propose a new information geometric characterization of entanglement for spin network states in the context of quantum gravity. For the simple case of a single-link fixed graph (Wilson line), we detail the construction of a Riemannian Fisher metric tensor and a symplectic structure on the graph Hilbert space, showing how these encode the whole information about separability and entanglement. In particular, the Fisher metric defines an entanglement monotone which provides a notion of distance among states in the Hilbert space. In the maximally entangled gauge-invariant case, the entanglement monotone is proportional to a power of the area of the surface dual to the link thus supporting a connection between entanglement and the (simplicial) geometric properties of spin network states. We further extend such analysis to the study of nonlocal correlations between two nonadjacent regions of a generic spin network graph characterized by the bipartite unfolding of an intertwiner state. Our analysis confirms the interpretation of spin network bonds as a result of entanglement and to regard the same spin network graph as an information graph, whose connectivity encodes, both at the local and nonlocal level, the quantum correlations among its parts. This gives a further connection between entanglement and geometry.

Quantum Relative-alpha-Entropies: A Structural and Geometric Perspective

Sayantan Roy, Atin Gayen, Aditi Kar Gangopadhyay +1 more

Most quantum divergences derive their structure from classical f-divergences or Renyi-type constructions, a dependence that obscures several quantum geometric effects. We introduce a quantum relative-alpha-entropy that extends Umegaki's relative entropy while falling outside the f-divergence class. The proposed divergence exhibits a nonlinear convexity property, which yields a generalized convexity result for the Petz-Renyi divergence for alpha greater than one, complementing the known convexity for alpha less than one. It is additive under tensor products, invariant under unitary transformations, and depends only on the relative geometry of quantum states rather than their absolute magnitudes. Using Nussbaum-Szkola-type distributions, we also establish an exact correspondence of this divergence with classical relative-alpha-entropy. This reveals relative-alpha-entropy as a fundamentally geometric notion of quantum distinguishability not captured by existing divergence frameworks.
