Reduced dimensionality and spatial entanglement in highly anisotropic Bose-Einstein condensates

Alexandre B. Tacla, Carlton M. Caves

We investigate the reduced dimensionality of highly anisotropic Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) in connection with the entanglement between the spatial degrees of freedom. We argue that the reduced dimensionality of the BEC is physically meaningful in a regime where spatial correlations are negligible. We handle the problem analytically within the mean-field approximation for general quasi-one-dimensional and quasi-two-dimensional geometries and obtain the optimal reduced-dimension, pure-state description of the condensate mean field. We give explicit solutions for the case of harmonic potentials, which we compare against exact numerical integration of the three-dimensional Gross-Pitaevskii equation.

Holographic Entanglement Entropy and Hidden Fermi surfaces

Zhong-Ying Fan

We prove that the purely classical gravity dual of Fermi and non-Fermi liquids exist by employing the logarithmic behavior of entanglement entropy to probe Fermi surfaces. For isotropic systems, the logarithmic behavior originates only from UV-IR intermediate regions of the minimal area surface. For anisotropic systems, the surfaces' configuration becomes largely modified by spatial anisotropy and series of solutions exist. By imposing the null energy condition we show that the specific heat behaves as $C\propto T^α$ where $α\leq1$, in both systems. In the end, we also present an effective gravity modle for anisotropic background.

Entanglement Smectic and Stripe Order

Nilotpal Chakraborty, Roderich Moessner, Benoît Douçot

Spontaneous symmetry breaking and more recently entanglement are two cornerstones of quantum matter. We introduce the notion of anisotropic entanglement ordered phases, where the spatial profile of spin-pseudospin entanglement spontaneously lowers the fourfold rotational symmetry of the underlying crystal to a twofold one, while the charge density retains the full symmetry. The resulting phases, which we term entanglement smectic and entanglement stripe, exhibit a rich Goldstone mode spectrum and a set of phase transitions as a function of underlying anisotropies. We discuss experimental consequences of such anisotropic entanglement phases distinguishing them from more conventional charge or spin stripes. Our discussion of this interplay between entanglement and spontaneous symmetry breaking focuses on multicomponent quantum Hall systems realizing textured Wigner crystals, as may occur in graphene or possibly also in moiré systems, highlighting the rich landscape and properties of possible entanglement ordered phases.
