Abstract

Abstract We studied the upper bounds of the holographic entanglement entropy growth rate for thermofield double (TFD) states. By comparing the cases of vacuum AdS and charged AdS black holes, we conjecture: for all static planar or spherically symmetric asymptotically Schwarzschild-AdS black holes of same mass density or entropy density, the vacuum AdS black hole gives the maximum entanglement entropy growth rate. We gave proofs by assuming dominant energy condition. We also considered the AdS black hole spacetime with real scalar fields case, where the scalar fields violate the dominant energy condition and the bulk geometry is not asymptotically Schwarzschild-AdS. Numerical results show that this case vacuum black hole still has maximal growth rate if we fixed entropy. However, in the case of fixed energy, vacuum case has maximal growth rate of entanglement entropy only under standard quantization scheme.

Complexity and entanglement for thermofield double states

Shira Chapman, Jens Eisert, Lucas Hackl +4 more

Motivated by holographic complexity proposals as novel probes of black hole spacetimes, we explore circuit complexity for thermofield double (TFD) states in free scalar quantum field theories using the Nielsen approach. For TFD states at t = 0 t = 0 , we show that the complexity of formation is proportional to the thermodynamic entropy, in qualitative agreement with holographic complexity proposals. For TFD states at t>0 t > 0 , we demonstrate that the complexity evolves in time and saturates after a time of the order of the inverse temperature. The latter feature, which is in contrast with the results of holographic proposals, is due to the Gaussian nature of the TFD state of the free bosonic QFT. A novel technical aspect of our work is framing complexity calculations in the language of covariance matrices and the associated symplectic transformations, which provide a natural language for dealing with Gaussian states. Furthermore, for free QFTs in 1+1 dimension, we compare the dynamics of circuit complexity with the time dependence of the entanglement entropy for simple bipartitions of TFDs. We relate our results for the entanglement entropy to previous studies on non-equilibrium entanglement evolution following quenches. We also present a new analytic derivation of a logarithmic contribution due to the zero momentum mode in the limit of vanishing mass for a subsystem containing a single degree of freedom on each side of the TFD and argue why a similar logarithmic growth should be present for larger subsystems.

Maximal entangling rates from holography

Åsmund Folkestad, Aditya Dhumuntarao

We prove novel far-from-equilibrum bounds on conformal field theories, upper bounding the growth rate of entanglement entropy in spatially uniform states. When equal-time correlators and Wilson loops are computed by geodesics and world sheets, we also bound the growth rate of these. Example applications include lower bounds on thermalization times or the time it takes to achieve deconfinement. Our bounds are proven for holographic conformal field theories at strong coupling and large--$N$, but we provide evidence that they are valid independent of these assumptions. In two dimensions, our results prove a conjectured bound on entanglement growth by Liu and Suh for a large class of states. We also derive bounds on spatial derivatives of correlation measures. From a gravitational perspective, our results constitute new lower bounds on the mass of asymptotically AdS spacetimes with planar symmetry, strengthening the positive mass theorem for these spacetimes. We also derive novel relations in $\mathrm{AdS}/\mathrm{CFT}$ relating various geometric features directly to entanglement entropy derivatives. For example, we show that conformal field theory entanglement growth corresponds to bulk matter falling deeper into the bulk.

Holographic entanglement of purification for thermofield double states and thermal quench

Run-Qiu Yang, Cheng-Yong Zhang, Wen-Ming Li

Abstract We explore the properties of holographic entanglement of purification (EoP) for two disjoint strips in the Schwarzschild-AdS black brane and the Vaidya-AdS black brane spacetimes. For two given strips on the same boundary of Schwarzschild-AdS spacetime, there is an upper bound of the separation beyond which the holographic EoP will always vanish no matter how wide the strips are. In the case that two strips are in the two boundaries of the spacetime respectively, we find that the holographic EoP exists only when the strips are wide enough. If the width is finite, the EoP can be nonzero in a finite time region. For thermal quench case, we find that the equilibrium time of holographic EoP is only sensitive to the width of strips, while that of the holographic mutual information is sensitive not only to the width of strips but also to their separation.

Entanglement entropy for free scalar fields in AdS

Sotaro Sugishita

We compute entanglement entropy for free massive scalar fields in anti-de Sitter (AdS) space. The entangling surface is a minimal surface whose boundary is a sphere at the boundary of AdS. The entropy can be evaluated from the thermal free energy of the fields on a topological black hole by using the replica method. In odd-dimensional AdS, exact expressions of the Rényi entropy S n are obtained for arbitrary n. We also evaluate 1-loop corrections coming from the scalar fields to holographic entanglement entropy. Applying the results, we compute the leading difference of entanglement entropy between two holographic CFTs related by a renormalization group flow triggered by a double trace deformation. The difference is proportional to the shift of a central charge under the flow.

Entanglement entropy and vacuum states in Schwarzschild geometry

Yoshinori Matsuo

Abstract Recently, it was proposed that there must be either large violation of the additivity conjecture or a set of disentangled states of the black hole in the AdS/CFT correspondence. In this paper, we study the additivity conjecture for quantum states of fields around the Schwarzschild black hole. In the eternal Schwarzschild spacetime, the entanglement entropy of the Hawking radiation is calculated assuming that the vacuum state is the Hartle-Hawking vacuum. In the additivity conjecture, we need to consider the state which gives minimal output entropy of a quantum channel. The Hartle-Hawking vacuum state does not give the minimal output entropy which is consistent with the additivity conjecture. We study the entanglement entropy in other static vacua and show that it is consistent with the additivity conjecture.
