Abstract

We present a one-dimensional multicomponent model, known to be partially integrable when restricted to the subspaces made of only two components. By constructing fully antisymmetrized bases, we find integrable excited eigenstates corresponding to the totally antisymmetric irreducible representation of the permutation operator in the otherwise nonintegrable subspaces. We establish rigorously the breakdown of integrability in those subspaces by showing explicitly the violation of the Yang-Baxter equation. We further solve the constraints from the Yang-Baxter equation to find exceptional momenta that allows Bethe ansatz solutions of solitonic bound states. These integrable eigenstates have distinct dynamical consequence from the embedded integrable subspaces previously known, as they do not span their separate Krylov subspaces, and a generic initial state can partly overlap with them and therefore have slow thermalization. However, this novel form of weak ergodicity breaking contrasts with that of quantum many-body scars in that the integrable eigenstates involved do not have necessarily low entanglement. Our approach provides a complementary route to arrive at exact excited states in nonintegrable models: instead of solving towers of single-mode excited states based on a solvable ground state in a nonintegrable model, we identify the integrable eigenstates that survive in a deformation of the Hamiltonian away from its integrable point.

Generalized Spin Helix States as Quantum Many-Body Scars in Partially Integrable Models

He-Ran Wang, Yuan, Dong

Quantum many-body scars are highly excited eigenstates of non-integrable Hamiltonians which violate the eigenstate thermalization hypothesis and are embedded in a sea of thermal eigenstates. We provide a general mechanism to construct partially integrable models with arbitrarily large local Hilbert space dimensions, which host exact many-body scars. We introduce designed integrability-breaking terms to several exactly solvable spin chains, whose integrable Hamiltonians are composed of the generators of the Temperley-Lieb algebra. In the non-integrable subspace of these models, we identify a special kind of product states -- the generalized spin helix states as exact quantum many-body scars, which lie in the common null space of the non-Hermitian generators of the Temperley-Lieb algebra and are annihilated by the integrability-breaking terms. Our constructions establish an intriguing connection between integrability and quantum many-body scars, meanwhile provide a systematic understanding of scarred Hamiltonians from the perspective of non-Hermitian projectors.

Exact eigenstates of multicomponent Hubbard models: SU( N ) magnetic η pairing, weak ergodicity breaking, and partial integrability

Masaya Nakagawa, Hosho Katsura, Masahito Ueda

We construct exact eigenstates of multicomponent Hubbard models in arbitrary dimensions by generalizing the η -pairing mechanism. Our models include the SU ( N ) Hubbard model as a special case. Unlike the conventional two-component case, the generalized η -pairing mechanism permits the construction of eigenstates that feature off-diagonal long-range order and magnetic long-range order. These states form fragmented fermionic condensates due to a simultaneous condensation of multicomponent η pairs. While the η -pairing states in the SU(2) Hubbard model are based on the η -pairing symmetry, the exact eigenstates in the N -component system with N ≥ 3 arise not from symmetry of the Hamiltonian but from a spectrum generating algebra defined in a restricted Hilbert space. We exploit this fact to show that the generalized η -pairing eigenstates do not satisfy the eigenstate thermalization hypothesis and serve as quantum many-body scar states. This result indicates a weak breakdown of ergodicity in the N -component Hubbard models for N ≥ 3 . Furthermore, we show that these exact eigenstates constitute integrable subsectors in which the Hubbard Hamiltonian effectively reduces to a noninteracting model. This partial integrability causes various multicomponent Hubbard models to weakly break ergodicity. We propose a method of harnessing dissipation to distill the integrable part of the dynamics and elucidate a mechanism of nonthermalization caused by dissipation. This work establishes the coexistence of off-diagonal long-range order and SU ( N ) magnetism in excited eigenstates of the multicomponent Hubbard models, which presents a possibility of novel out-of-equilibrium pairing states of multicomponent fermions. These models unveil a unique feature of quantum thermalization of multicomponent fermions, which can experimentally be tested with cold-atom quantum simulators. New Fundamental Symmetries of Integrable Systems and Partial Bethe Ansatz

A. G. Ushveridze

We introduce a new concept of quasi-Yang-Baxter algebras. The quantum quasi-Yang-Baxter algebras being simple but non-trivial deformations of ordinary algebras of monodromy matrices realize a new type of quantum dynamical symmetries and find an unexpected and remarkable applications in quantum inverse scattering method (QISM). We show that applying to quasi-Yang-Baxter algebras the standard procedure of QISM one obtains new wide classes of quantum models which, being integrable (i.e. having enough number of commuting integrals of motion) are only quasi-exactly solvable (i.e. admit an algebraic Bethe ansatz solution for arbitrarily large but limited parts of the spectrum). These quasi-exactly solvable models naturally arise as deformations of known exactly solvable ones. A general theory of such deformations is proposed. The correspondence ``Yangian --- quasi-Yangian'' and ``$XXX$ spin models --- quasi-$XXX$ spin models'' is discussed in detail. We also construct the classical conterparts of quasi-Yang-Baxter algebras and show that they naturally lead to new classes of classical integrable models. We conjecture that these models are quasi-exactly solvable in the sense of classical inverse scattering method, i.e. admit only partial construction of action-angle variables.

Exactly solvable subspaces of nonintegrable spin chains with boundaries and quasiparticle interactions

Chihiro Matsui

We propose two strategies to construct a family of nonintegrable spin chains with exactly solvable subspaces based on the idea of quasiparticle excitations from the matrix product vacuum state [Haegeman et al., Phys. Rev. B 88, 075133 (2013)]. The first one allows the boundary generalization, while the second one makes it possible to construct the solvable subspace with interacting quasiparticles. Each generalization is realized by removing the assumption made in the conventional method [Moudgalya et al., Phys. Rev. B 102, 085120 (2020)], which is the frustration-free condition or the local orthogonality, respectively. We found that the structure of the embedded equally spaced energy spectrum is not violated by the diagonal boundaries, as long as quasiparticles are identical and noninteracting in the invariant subspace. On the other hand, we show that there exists a one-parameter family of nonintegrable Hamiltonians, which shows the perfectly embedded energy spectrum of the integrable spin chain. Surprisingly, the embedded energy spectrum does not change by varying the free parameter of the Hamiltonian. The constructed models weakly break ergodicity, in which strong ETH is expected to be violated.

Exact few-magnon Bethe scars of the nonintegrable alternating Heisenberg chain

Ronald Melendrez, Bhaskar Mukherjee, Marcin Szyniszewski +3 more

Exact solutions of quantum lattice models serve as useful guides for interpreting physical phenomena in condensed matter systems. Prominent examples of integrability appear in one dimension, including the Heisenberg chain, where the Bethe ansatz method has been widely successful. Recent work has noted that certain non-integrable models harbor quantum many-body scar states, which form a superspin of regular states hidden in an otherwise chaotic spectrum. Here we consider one of the simplest examples of a non-integrable model, the alternating ferromagnetic-antiferromagnetic (bond-staggered) Heisenberg chain, a close cousin of the spin-1 Haldane chain and a spin analog of the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model, and show the presence of exponentially many zero-energy states. We highlight features of the alternating chain that allow treatment with the coordinate Bethe ansatz (with important modifications), and surprisingly, for a non-integrable system, we find simple compact expressions for zero-energy eigenfunctions for a few magnons, including solutions with fractionalized particle momentum. These states exhibit wavefunction scarring similar to that of single-particle states in chaotic billiards. We discuss a general numerical recipe to diagnose the existence of such generalized Bethe ansatz (GBA) scar states and also provide exact analytic expressions for their entanglement. We conclude by conjecturing a picture of magnon pairing which may generalize to multiple magnons. Our work opens the avenue to describe certain eigenstates of partially integrable systems using the GBA.

The Roaming Bethe Roots: An Effective Bethe Ansatz Beyond Integrability

Wenlong Zhao, Yunfeng Jiang, Rui-Dong Zhu

Abstract We propose an effective Bethe ansatz (EBA) for solving quantum many-body systems near an integrable point. Our approach retains the functional form of the Bethe wave function while renormalizing the Bethe roots to account for integrability-breaking interactions. These effective roots are determined by minimizing physically motivated cost functions. The resulting off-shell Bethe states serve as approximate eigenstates of the non-integrable models. We assess the quality of the approximation using various physical observables, including the energy eigenvalue, state fidelity, and bipartite entanglement entropy. Our tests show that for models with weak integrability-breaking, the EBA provides a high-quality approximation to the exact eigenstates over a wide range of deformation parameters. In contrast, for models with strong integrability-breaking interactions, the efficacy of EBA degrades relatively quickly as the deformation parameter increases. The efficacy of the method thus offers a useful probe for characterizing the strength of integrability breaking. Within its regime of accuracy, it also provides a new representation of the eigenstates of nearly integrable models, enabling one to exploit the algebraic structure inherited from integrability.
