Logarithmic negativity in out-of-equilibrium open free-fermion chains: An exactly solvable case

Abstract

We derive the quasiparticle picture for the fermionic logarithmic negativity in a tight-binding chain subject to gain and loss dissipation. We focus on the dynamics after the quantum quench from the fermionic Néel state. We consider the negativity between both adjacent and disjoint intervals embedded in an infinite chain. Our result holds in the standard hydrodynamic limit of large subsystems and long times, with their ratio fixed. Additionally, we consider the weakly-dissipative limit, in which the dissipation rates are inversely proportional to the size of the intervals. We show that the negativity is proportional to the number of entangled pairs of quasiparticles that are shared between the two intervals, as is the case for the mutual information. Crucially, in contrast with the unitary case, the negativity content of quasiparticles is not given by the Rényi entropy with Rényi index 1/2 1 / 2 , and it is in general not easily related to thermodynamic quantities.

Entanglement negativity in a fermionic chain with dissipative defects: exact results

Fabio Caceffo, Vincenzo Alba

Abstract We investigate the dynamics of the fermionic logarithmic negativity in a free-fermion chain with a localized loss, which acts as a dissipative impurity. The chain is initially prepared in a generic Fermi sea. In the standard hydrodynamic limit of large subsystems and long times, with their ratio fixed, the negativity between two subsystems is described by a simple formula, which depends only on the effective absorption coefficient of the impurity. The negativity grows linearly at short times, then saturating to a volume-law scaling. Physically, this reflects the continuous production with time of entangling pairs of excitations at the impurity site. Interestingly, the negativity is not the same as the Rényi mutual information with Rényi index 1 / 2 , in contrast with the case of unitary dynamics. This reflects the interplay between dissipative and unitary processes. The negativity content of the entangling pairs is obtained in terms of an effective two-state mixed density matrix for the subsystems. Criticality in the initial Fermi sea is reflected in the presence of logarithmic corrections. The prefactor of the logarithmic scaling depends on the loss rate, suggesting a nontrivial interplay between dissipation and criticality.

Rényi negativities in non-equilibrium open free-boson chains

Hui-Huang Chen

A bstract In this paper, we consider the dynamics of Rényi negativities after a quantum quench in the free-boson chain with homogeneous dissipation. Initially we prepare the system in the squeezed thermal state, and then let it evolves under the tight-binding bosonic Hamiltonian with local linear dissipation. We use the Lindblad equation to solve the time evolution of the covariance matrix, from which one can obtain the time dependence of Rényi negativities. We are interested in the weak dissipation hydrodynamic limit where a quasi-particle picture emerges. In this limit, exact results of non-equilibrium dynamics of Rényi negativities can be obtained using the stationary phase method. We consider the Rényi negativities between both adjacent and disjoint regions in a infinite chain. We numerically test our analytical predictions and perfect matches have found.

Hydrodynamics of quantum entropies in Ising chains with linear dissipation

Vincenzo Alba, Federico Carollo

Abstract We study the dynamics of quantum information and of quantum correlations after a quantum quench, in transverse field Ising chains subject to generic linear dissipation. As we show, in the hydrodynamic limit of long times, large system sizes, and weak dissipation, entropy-related quantities—such as the von Neumann entropy, the Rényi entropies, and the associated mutual information—admit a simple description within the so-called quasiparticle picture. Specifically, we analytically derive a hydrodynamic formula, recently conjectured for generic noninteracting systems, which allows us to demonstrate a universal feature of the dynamics of correlations in such dissipative noninteracting system. For any possible dissipation, the mutual information grows up to a time scale that is proportional to the inverse dissipation rate, and then decreases, always vanishing in the long time limit. In passing, we provide analytic formulas describing the time-dependence of arbitrary functions of the fermionic covariance matrix, in the hydrodynamic limit.

Time evolution of entanglement negativity across a defect

Matthias Gruber, Viktor Eisler

Abstract We consider a quench in a free-fermion chain by joining two homogeneous half-chains via a defect. The time evolution of the entanglement negativity is studied between adjacent segments surrounding the defect. In case of equal initial fillings, the negativity grows logarithmically in time and essentially equals one-half of the Rényi mutual information with index α = 1/2 in the limit of large segments. In sharp contrast, in the biased case one finds a linear increase followed by the saturation at an extensive value for both quantities, which is due to the backscattering from the defect and can be reproduced in a quasiparticle picture. Furthermore, a closer inspection of the subleading corrections reveals that the negativity and the mutual information have a small but finite difference in the steady state. Finally, we also study a similar quench in the XXZ spin chain via density-matrix renormalization group methods and compare the results for the negativity to the fermionic case.

Quantum information dynamics in multipartite integrable systems

Vincenzo Alba, Pasquale Calabrese

In a non-equilibrium many-body system, the quantum information dynamics between non-complementary regions is a crucial feature to understand the local relaxation towards statistical ensembles. Unfortunately, its characterization is a formidable task, as non-complementary parts are generally in a mixed state. We show that for integrable systems, this quantum information dynamics can be quantitatively understood within the quasiparticle picture for the entanglement spreading. Precisely, we provide an exact prediction for the time evolution of the logarithmic negativity after a quench. In the space-time scaling limit of long times and large subsystems, the negativity becomes proportional to the Rényi mutual information with Rényi index α = 1 / 2 . We provide robust numerical evidence for the validity of our results for free-fermion and free-boson models, but our framework applies to any interacting integrable system.

Symmetry-resolved entanglement in fermionic systems with dissipation

Sara Murciano, Pasquale Calabrese, Vincenzo Alba

Abstract We investigate symmetry-resolved entanglement in out-of-equilibrium fermionic systems subject to gain and loss dissipation, which preserves the block-diagonal structure of the reduced density matrix. We derive a hydrodynamic description of the dynamics of several entanglement-related quantities, such as the symmetry-resolved von Neumann entropy and the charge-imbalance-resolved fermionic negativity. We show that all these quantities admit a hydrodynamic description in terms of entangled quasiparticles. While the entropy is dominated by dissipative processes, the resolved negativity is sensitive to the presence of entangled quasiparticles, and it shows the typical ‘rise and fall’ dynamics. Our results hold in the weak-dissipative hydrodynamic limit of large intervals, long times and weak dissipation rates.
