Lectures on entanglement in quantum field theory

Horacio Casini, Marina Huerta

Published Mar 14, 2022• 57 citations
arXivHTMLPDF

Abstract

These notes grew from a series of lectures given by the authors during the last decade. After a brief introduction to quantum information theory tools, they are organized in four chapters covering the following subjects: Entanglement in quantum field theory, Irreversibility theorems, Energy-entropy bounds, Entanglement and symmetries.

Lectures on entanglement entropy in field theory and holography

Matthew Headrick

These notes, based on lectures given at various schools over the last few years, aim to provide an introduction to entanglement entropies in quantum field theories, including holographic ones. We explore basic properties and simple examples of entanglement entropies, mostly in two dimensions, with an emphasis on physical rather than formal aspects of the subject. In the holographic case, the focus is on how the Ryu-Takayanagi formula geometrically realizes general features of field-theory entanglement, while revealing special properties of holographic theories. In order to make the notes somewhat self-contained for readers whose background is in high-energy theory, a brief introduction to the relevant aspects of quantum information theory is included.

Quantum Information Theory -- Lecture Notes

Christoph Dittel

These lecture notes provide an introduction to quantum information and quantum computation, which are strongly related disciplines and subject of intense research. The lecture notes contain only a small selection of topics in these disciplines, with the aim of providing you with an overview and a basic introduction. The corresponding lecture series is available on my YouTube channel.

Entanglement Entropy in Field Theory and Gravity

Nabil Iqbal

This is an introductory set of lectures given by the author at the Modave Summer School 2015 on the various incarnations of entanglement entropy. Topics covered include an overview of the basic properties of entanglement entropy, its structure in quantum field theory, its computation in two-dimensional conformal field theory, a simple application to c -theorems in two dimensions, and the Ryu-Takayanagi formula and its extensions in holography

These notes are from a series of lectures given at the Universidad de Los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia on some topics of current interest in quantum information. While they aim to be self-contained, they are necessarily incomplete and idiosyncratic in their coverage. For a more thorough introduction to the subject, we recommend one of the textbooks by Nielsen and Chuang or by Wilde, or the lecture notes of Mermin, Preskill or Watrous. Our notes by contrast are meant to be a relatively rapid introduction into some more contemporary topics in this fast-moving field. They are meant to be accessible to advanced undergraduates or starting graduate students.
