Abstract

Quantum state transfer (QST) and entangled state generation (ESG) are important building blocks for modern quantum information processing. To achieve these tasks, convention wisdom is to consult the quantum adiabatic evolution, which is time-consuming, and thus is of low fidelity. Here, using the shortcut to adiabaticity technique, we propose a general method to realize high-fidelity fast QST and ESG in a cavity-coupled many qubits system via its dark pathways, which can be further designed for high-fidelity quantum tasks with different optimization purpose. Specifically, with a proper dark pathway, QST and ESG between any two qubits can be achieved without decoupling the others, which simplifies experimental demonstrations. Meanwhile, ESG among all qubits can also be realized in a single step. In addition, our scheme can be implemented in many quantum systems, and we illustrate its implementation on superconducting quantum circuits. Therefore, we propose a powerful strategy for selective quantum manipulation, which is promising in cavity coupled quantum systems and could find many convenient applications in quantum information processing.

Entanglement generation and quantum information transfer between spatially-separated qubits in different cavities

Chui‐Ping Yang, Qi-Ping Su, Franco Nori

The generation and control of quantum states of spatially-separated qubits distributed in different cavities constitute fundamental tasks in cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED). An interesting question in this context is how to prepare entanglement and realize quantum information transfer between qubits located at different cavities, which are important in large-scale quantum information processing. In this paper, we consider a physical system consisting of two cavities and three qubits. Two of the qubits are placed in two different cavities while the remaining one acts as a coupler, which is used to connect the two cavities. We propose an approach for generating quantum entanglement and implementing quantum information transfer between the two spatially-separated inter-cavity qubits. The quantum operations involved in this proposal are performed by a virtual photon process; thus the cavity decay is greatly suppressed during operations. In addition, to complete these tasks, only one coupler qubit and one operation step are needed. Moreover, there is no need to apply classical pulses, so that the engineering complexity is much reduced and the operation procedure is greatly simplified. Finally, our numerical results illustrate that high-fidelity implementation of this proposal using superconducting phase qubits and one-dimensional transmission line resonators is feasible for current circuit QED implementations. This proposal can also be applied to other types of superconducting qubits, including flux and charge qubits.

Controllable high-fidelity quantum state transfer and entanglement generation in circuit QED

Peng Xu, Xu-Chen Yang, Feng Mei +1 more

We propose a scheme to realize controllable quantum state transfer and entanglement generation among transmon qubits in the typical circuit QED setup based on adiabatic passage. Through designing the time-dependent driven pulses applied on the transmon qubits, we find that fast quantum sate transfer can be achieved between arbitrary two qubits and quantum entanglement among the qubits also can also be engineered. Furthermore, we numerically analyzed the influence of the decoherence on our scheme with the current experimental accessible systematical parameters. The result shows that our scheme is very robust against both the cavity decay and qubit relaxation, the fidelities of the state transfer and entanglement preparation process could be very high. In addition, our scheme is also shown to be insensitive to the inhomogeneous of qubit-resonator coupling strengths.

Hamiltonian engineering for robust quantum state transfer and qubit readout in cavity QED

Félix Beaudoin, Alexandre Blais, W. A. Coish

Quantum state transfer into a memory, state shuttling over long distances via a quantum bus, and high-fidelity readout are important tasks for quantum technology. Realizing these tasks is challenging in the presence of realistic couplings to an environment. Here, we introduce and assess protocols that can be used in cavity quantum electrodynamics to perform high-fidelity quantum state transfer and fast quantum nondemolition qubit readout through Hamiltonian engineering. We show that high-fidelity state transfer between a cavity and a single qubit can be performed, even in the limit of strong dephasing due to inhomogeneous broadening. We generalize this result to state transfer between a cavity and a logical qubit encoded in a collective mode of a large ensemble of N physical qubits. Under a decoupling sequence, we show that inhomogeneity in the ensemble couples two collective bright states to only two other collective modes, leaving the remaining single-excitation states dark. Moreover, we show that large signal-to-noise and high single-shot fidelity can be achieved in a cavity-based qubit readout, even in the weak-coupling limit. These ideas may be important for novel systems coupling single spins to a microwave cavity.

Fast and high-fidelity generation of photonic Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states in circuit QED

Abstract A fast scheme to generate Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states between different cavities in circuit QED systems is proposed. To implement this scheme, we design a feasible experimental device with three qubits and three cavities. In this device, all the couplings between qubit and qubit, cavity and qubit are tunable and are independent with frequencies, and thus the shortcut to adiabaticity technique can be directly applied in our scheme. It is demonstrated that the GHZ state can be generated rapidly with high fidelity in our scheme.

Fast implementation of four-dimensional entangled state in separately coupled cavities via shortcut to adiabatic passage

Chun‐Ling Zhang, Liu Wen-wu

Quantum information, as a comprehensive subject of quantum mechanics and information science, has a broad theoretical research value and application prospect. As a resource of quantum information, quantum entanglement has been studied thoroughly, which is not only significant to understand the features of quantum mechanics, but also of great value to the development of the method new quantum information processing. Therefore, the generation of entangled state is widely studied theoretically. In comparison to low-dimensional entangled states, multi-dimensional entangled states are not only safe but also efficient and error-tolerant for quantum computation. The adiabatic technique is one of the most widely used and proven techniques in quantum information science. The main advantages of this technique are that it is insensitive to the fluctuation of experimental parameters, and the interaction time of the system is not required to be controled accurately. However, limited by the adiabatic condition, it usually takes relatively long interaction time in scheme via adiabatic technique to achieve the target states. If the required evolution time is too long, the scheme may be useless. To overcome this problem, researchers have done a lot in the field of finding ways to shorten the long interaction time of adiabatic passage. Among these works, the technique named shortcuts to adiabatic passage is a successful work in this field and it has attracted a great deal of attention in recent years. In this paper, based on transitionless quantum driving to construct shortcuts to adiabatic passage, an efficient scheme to fast generate a four-dimensional entangled state of two-atom is proposed. The atoms are respectively trapped in the separate two-mode cavities which are connected by optical fiber. To achieve an alternative physically feasible system, the non-resonant dynamics is adopted to create a Hamiltonian which can exactly drive the system to evolve along the instantaneous eigenstates of the original Hamiltonian. As a result, if the system goes through adiabatic passage, it will evolve in the dark state, not transit to other states. Hence, using transitionless quantum driving to shortcuts to adiabatic passage, the evolutionary time in this scheme is much less than that in other schemes based on traditional adiabatic passage. The rigorous numerical simulations are conducted. The results show that with suitable pulsed laser parameters, this scheme is robust against decoherence arising from fiber decay, cavity decay and atomic spontaneous emission. Moreover, the scheme is more feasible in physics. That is, based on the proposed scheme, a high-fidelity four-dimensional entangled state of two-atom can be achieved.

Fast generations of entangled states between a transmon qubit and microwave photons via shortcuts to adiabaticity

Run‐Ying Yan, Zhi‐Bo Feng, Chunli Zhang +3 more

Abstract We propose an efficient protocol for rapidly generating quantum entangled states between a transmon qubit and microwave photons via shortcuts to adiabaticity. For a dispersive coupling between the qubit and cavity mode, three composite qubit-photon states constitute our system. Two microwave drivings are applied to the three-level system, leading to a Λ-type interaction. Based on shortcut-like quantum state transfer, the maximally entangled states can be controllably generated in a non-adiabatic manner. We address the dependence of the needed time for generating entangled states on the Rabi couplings, and further analyse the robustness of quantum operations. The present scheme opens up an opportunity for fast creating entangled states of the superconducting qubit-cavity systems.
