Abstract

A bstract We study the continuum limit of the entanglement Hamiltonian of a sphere for the massless scalar field in its ground state by employing the lattice model defined through the discretisation of the radial direction. In two and three spatial dimensions and for small values of the total angular momentum, we find numerical results in agreement with the corresponding ones derived from the entanglement Hamiltonian predicted by conformal field theory. When the mass parameter in the lattice model is large enough, the dominant contributions come from the on-site and the nearest-neighbour terms, whose weight functions are straight lines.

On entanglement Hamiltonians of an interval in massless harmonic chains

Giuseppe Di Giulio, Erik Tonni C

Abstract We study the continuum limit of the entanglement Hamiltonians of a block of consecutive sites in massless harmonic chains. This block is either in the chain on the infinite line or at the beginning of a chain on the semi-infinite line with Dirichlet boundary conditions imposed at its origin. The entanglement Hamiltonians of the interval predicted by conformal field theory (CFT) for the massless scalar field are obtained in the continuum limit. We also study the corresponding entanglement spectra, and the numerical results for the ratios of the gaps are compatible with the operator content of the boundary CFT of a massless scalar field with Neumann boundary conditions imposed along the boundaries introduced around the entangling points by the regularisation procedure.

Entanglement Hamiltonian for the massless Dirac field on a segment with an inhomogeneous background

Erik Tonni C, Stefano Trezzi

A bstract We study the entanglement Hamiltonian of an interval for the free massless Dirac field in an inhomogeneous background on a finite segment and in the ground state. We consider a class of metrics that are Weyl equivalent to the flat metric through a Weyl factor that depends only on the spatial coordinate, with the same boundary condition imposed at both endpoints of the segment. The explicit form of the entanglement Hamiltonian is written as the sum of a local and a bilocal term. The weight function of the local term allows us to study a contour function for the entanglement entropies. For the model obtained from the continuum limit of the rainbow chain, the analytic expressions are compared with exact numerical results from the lattice, showing an excellent agreement.

Entanglement entropy of a one-dimensional scalar field

K.R. de Ruiter

In this thesis, we study the entanglement entropy of a chain of coupled harmonic oscillators, which is used to model a one-dimensional bosonic scalar field. Initially, a model for a massless scalar field is discussed. When calculating the entanglement entropy from the reduced density matrix we run into a problem due to the presence of a zero mode, and we are only able to compute the entanglement entropy of one particular case. These difficulties are avoided when we consider a massive scalar field instead, which we accomplish by adding a mass term to the dispersion relation. We numerically study the entanglement entropy of the massive scalar field model as a function of the number of coordinates and the mass parameter and compare with analytical results. By fitting our numerical data we construct a single cross-over function, which describes the entanglement entropy as a function of both the number of coordinates and the mass parameter. The cross-over function agrees well with the numerical data, especially for small values of the mass parameter. Taking then the massless limit, the entanglement entropy of a massless scalar field can nevertheless be determined and reproduces the prediction of conformal field theory.

Entanglement entropy of a Maxwell field on the sphere

Horacio Casini, Marina Huerta

We compute the logarithmic coefficient of the entanglement entropy on a sphere for a Maxwell field in $d=3+1$ dimensions. In spherical coordinates the problem decomposes into one-dimensional ones along the radial coordinate for each angular momentum. We show that the entanglement entropy of a Maxwell field is equivalent to one of two identical massless scalars from which the mode of $l=0$ has been removed. This shows the relation ${c}_{\mathrm{log}}^{M}=2({c}_{\mathrm{log}}^{S}\ensuremath{-}{c}_{\mathrm{log}}^{{S}_{l=0}})$ between the logarithmic coefficient in the entropy for a Maxwell field ${c}_{\mathrm{log}}^{M}$, the one for a $d=3+1$ massless scalar ${c}_{\mathrm{log}}^{S}$, and the logarithmic coefficient ${c}_{\mathrm{log}}^{{S}_{l=0}}$ for a $d=1+1$ scalar with a Dirichlet boundary condition at the origin. Using the accepted values for these coefficients ${c}_{\mathrm{log}}^{S}=\ensuremath{-}1/90$ and ${c}_{\mathrm{log}}^{{S}_{l=0}}=1/6$, we get ${c}_{\mathrm{log}}^{M}=\ensuremath{-}16/45$, which coincides with Dowker's calculation, but does not match the coefficient $\ensuremath{-}\frac{31}{45}$ in the trace anomaly for a Maxwell field. We have numerically evaluated these three numbers ${c}_{\mathrm{log}}^{M}$, ${c}_{\mathrm{log}}^{S}$ and ${c}_{\mathrm{log}}^{{S}_{l=0}}$, verifying the relation, as well as checked that they coincide with the corresponding logarithmic term in mutual information of two concentric spheres.

Entanglement entropies of an interval for the massless scalar field in the presence of a boundary

Benoit Estienne, Yacine Ikhlef, Andrei Rotaru +1 more

A bstract We study the entanglement entropies of an interval for the massless compact boson either on the half line or on a finite segment, when either Dirichlet or Neumann boundary conditions are imposed. In these boundary conformal field theory models, the method of the branch point twist fields is employed to obtain analytic expressions for the two-point functions of twist operators. In the decompactification regime, these analytic predictions in the continuum are compared with the lattice numerical results in massless harmonic chains for the corresponding entanglement entropies, finding good agreement. The application of these analytic results in the context of quantum quenches is also discussed.

Entanglement Hamiltonian after a local quench

Riccarda Bonsignori, Viktor Eisler

A bstract We investigate the dynamics of the entanglement Hamiltonian in a system of one-dimensional free fermions, following a local joining quench of two initially disconnected half-chains in their ground states. Applying techniques of conformal field theory, we obtain a local expression where the left- and right-moving components of the energy density are associated with different weight functions. The results are then compared to numerical calculations for the hopping chain, which requires to consider a proper continuum limit of the lattice entanglement Hamiltonian, obtaining a good agreement with the field-theory prediction.
